Congrats!
These things are state specific.
In OR they are tying closures/openings to a few criteria including new cases, deaths, hospitalizations etc.
Most counties in the state we'll see extended closures until the numbers go down, so unlikely to reopen soon.
Thank goodness I found a coworker who has a solid home gym who will let me come over ~3 days a week.
I can't buy much of anything now without getting gouged for crap quality equipment. Why NOT?

Gavin Newsom is threatening again to put a three week shelter in place on California if cases don't stop surging. This would mark the third time the gym will close if it actually happens. I'm getting really sick of this and it gives me anxiety.
I just bought a house in October and planned on building a gym but I didn't want to rush things either just make a cutoff. It seems my neighbor has a nice setup so maybe I'll get luck and he'll let me come over and use his stuff. Oddly enough, it seems like equipment is fairly accessible these days and not too badly priced like it was back in April.Age: 41

I have a feeling we'll all be moving into tier 4 in January :-( My strength has literally just come back in the last few days, from the last lockdown.
I'm a member of an independent gym and I kept my membership payment running throughout both lock downs, as did a number of other members. I think that's the only reason the gym didn't close down permanently. I know a few others that have gone bust. It's been an expensive year though - £360 for about 8 weeks worth of sessions!

Yup still paying monthly at my Y - they're not 'local' although they are very community oriented. Sucks to not be able to use it, but I'm thankful I still have a job, a friend who lets me work out at his home gym, so I'll keep paying to try to keep them in business.

Don't bank on it. I've heard suggestions the Tier 4 restrictions could last until April, thanks to this higher transmissable variant. I've just about written off any hope of getting stronger until this damned pandemic is over, which will probably be sometime in the second half of 2021, as long as the UK doesn't do the usual fannying about and gets the vaccinations distributed quickly.

Getting really stressed and depressed by no gym, it's not even been a month (20th Dec was first day of no gyms). OK I'm just whining and need to man up and be more patient, but I'm starting to get no-gym/cabin fever

Same here and I am just less than two weeks into my gym being closed. Last lockdown I started running and doing bits in the garden with some dumbbells that I borrowed from a work colleague but I lost a lot of weight pretty quickly (muscles too). Hard times.
I find the biggest struggle not snacking at home with so much time on my hands. I am working from home 3/5 days now.

Finding it hard to believe I started this thread slightly over 8 months ago and I'm still thinking... when will gyms open again
Thinking to start some basic linear progression, stronglifts and pull-ups, starting strength, 5/3/1 for beginners maybe??? Undecided, doesn't make much difference anyway which one as I think effort and consistency is more of a factor
not push to hard into multiple resets on every lift, but when the novice linear starts getting old, move to a watered down building the monolith (BTM), cycling indoors and stair machine/cross trainer for cardio (not hill sprints and box jumps) for now due to achilles issues
once I've got a few months of watered down BTM under my belt, gradually move to BTM undiluted.
Priority lift for me is OHP. Everything else can be a general compromise for strength and being able to survive robust all day workloads (like general mountaineering, underground exploration, etc), but I must do some squat and DL or it's not trainingInjury avoidance, especially long term accumulated strain is essential. My personal "achilles heel" is... my left Achilles.
Hoping this is the last lockdown and this restart will mean restart long term
Anyone have a better plan, all comments, suggestions, guestures welcomed.Last edited by OldFartTom; 02-16-2021 at 02:46 AM.

Thanks Charlie! Believe me if home gym equipment (including home made equipment where unavoidable) of some sort was possible/practical I'd be on that already.
Unconfirmed but some outdoor sports can resume after March 29th in England. But no date for indoors such as gyms.
Maybe I'm being way too cynical but this means our politicians can go back to Tennis and Golf at their country clubs?Faith in Jesus first and faith in squats second.

All this lockdown hasn't effected my working out at all as I've never been to a gym in my life. I have free weights and do a lot of bodyweight stuff, in fact my workouts have been better, not going out much has given me more time to focus on it.
Tennis balls?...........my Biceps are as big as Grapefruits!
