    Anyone skip rope?

Been thinking about getting one as I've heard good things about it, anyone do it? Or recommend it?

It's more difficult than jogging/moderate running. You need a much higher degree of coordination (with both foot work and entire body), rhythm and lung capacity (depending on your fitness level and skill set). It is also higher impact if you incorporate more jumping into your training (double-unders; tuck jumps).

You can become completely winded in 5 minutes or less if you use all-out power (speed). Which also means it is possible to burn more calories in a shorter period of time IF you become skilled enough to keep up that continuous rhythm and pace with a more advanced skillset of "tricks."

Start off with a height-adjusted vinyl speed rope.

Just buy a jumprope and do it. The answers to your questions would be pretty subjective - you can find the answers out for you easily and at a low cost.

Not recently but as mentioned very good for HIIT cardio.
Ten or fifteen minutes will get that heart rate soaring up and and down.
The other thing is they are also good for the calves.

I find it easier to do sprints.
My heart rate rises faster, and I don't have to worry about tripping on the rope and composing myself and starting over.
And skipping really fast requires a lot of coordination and concentration.

For example I can skip at a comfortable pace for 5 minutes straight with a rate of perceived exertion of like 6 on 10.
Or I can do a 15 second sprint, which for me is like an 8.
Meaning it feels more difficult to do, and better for burning calories for me personally.

I recommend it as it's easy to carry, easy to do anywhere, you don't need much space to do it and it's great for the body.

This is pretty cool. It takes some getting used to the different jumps, but once you get it down, the program is great.

--The proper plural form of the Latin adjective biceps is bicipites, a form not in general English use. Instead, biceps is used in both singular and plural (i.e., when referring to both arms). The form bicep [sic], although common even in professional contexts, is considered incorrect. (from Wikipedia)

I love my jump roping. I use it for a quick warm up before lifting, post lifting cardio, with some body weight exercises alternated in, mix it up with heavy bag work and I enjoy learning tricks.

I burnt through a couple cheap ropes, so made the plunge for some better quality weighted ropes which really get the forearms burning. If you're just stating out, don't spend big though. Just get something cheap and give it a go.

If you're worried about timing and coordination, one thing I found was, once you start messing up and getting frustrated, just walk away. Come back to it fresh and you'll see an improvement. It's a great workout and can be done nearly anywhere.
    Good Luck!
