    If it's good steak it doesn't need anything

    But if it's more average steak

    Tbsp butter (real butter, none of that fake margarine crap), melt in pot
    Chop a few cloves of garlic. If you semi-crush it before chopping it brings the flavour out and makes it sweeter. Saute the garlic in the butter.
    Add salt, pepper, mixed herbs (oregano and basil are good), about half a cup of cream and stir constantly
    Add about teaspoon of cornflour, keep stirring til it thickens

    Yes, generally agree. But sometimes some cuts of beef are passed off as steak when they're really not, and become almost inedible when cooked. If you have the misfortune to be given such meat, then some sauce might be necessary. But ketchup really is beyond the pale.

    Also besides the bordelaise I wrote out a recipe for


    Bearnaise works great, especially for the dude who said add crab, Demi glacé completely destroys the crab flavor, bearnaise accentuates and adds fat/acid to it and pairs nicely with the meat.

    Chimichurri is great especially with a steak that has nice char/charcoal flavor.

    Also I’m a heathen and have been known to use sriracha if it’s an old leftover steak that I’m reheating or eating cold with some rice.
