    Under eating or over training?

Hi guys, for years I think I've been under eating, but i'm not exactly sure.

I've had the following symptoms for years

    - ravenous hunger
    - extreme fatigue
    - feeling very tired and "blunted"
    - trouble performing at work
    - feeling depressed
    - irritable
    - trouble sleeping

I have a big schedule I work 9 to 5 full time, and go to the gym 3x a week and play soccer 3 x a week.

I don't know if I under eat or over train. I need some opinions. I don't really care about gaining size I just like maintaining what I have. So I try and eat at maintenance. Over the years I haven't gained weight or lost weight, but I feel like I've gotten bigger and leaner.

However since gyms in my area closed due to COVID, I am feeling better and also noticed I gained a little bit of puffy fat around my stomach and lost a bit of muscle . I guess that's expected.

I also noticed when I eat junk food eg. chips, burgers, pizza I always feel better.

So I don't get it? Do I not eat enough even though I don't lose weight? Is it over training? Nott enough carbs? Not enough sleep?

Neither - your weight is staying the same so it's not under eating and your exercise schedule is not excessive.

How much do you weigh? Height?

    Perhaps pre-diabetic.

Super low bodyfat = low leptin

Your hormones are probably messed up

If you put on some fat, it will likely resolve

    Good option^^^

When I get very lean for a show, even my wife notices, I'm low energy and grumpy. It can really affect some people.

Do you take a multi? Low levels of Vitamin D can cause those symptoms too.

You answered your own question there.

Do you have a picture? Most people who think they're super low body fat aren't.

I don't understand though how my weight stays the same but my body fat is low?

here is a picture/video what do you think?

this is a few weeks ago and I've gained a fair bit of weight usually I'm leaner.

I want to get leaner but I don't want to suffer the mental side effects what can I do? I really hate how puffy I look now in the stomach and face. ive lost so much ab definition. i'm also on propecia for my hair so not sure if increase in estrogen has caused issues.

You’re not puffy, and you’re not way way too lean per se, you’re at a good leanness to gain muscle tho.

However, not everyone experiences negative impacts on hunger and other hormones at the same level. Some people feel just as crappy at 10% as other so at 7%.... some of this is genetic.

You look good, so why keep suffering and hating life? You’re just wasting time not enjoying yourself.

What do you think my body fat percentage is?

ah, I got mental issues, I think i'm ugly, girlfriend dumped me , i'm miserable etc.

Also, I only really feel confident when i'm super lean because my face looks good but I know that getting to that level really affects me mentally. I guess I can't win lol

Maybe get counselling / CBT / possibly even hypnosis for your self image issues.

I think a lot of skinny guys have this issue where definition can dissapear easily. So they are constantly dieting - and this prevents the thing that would make maintaining a physique easier - i.e. growing more muscle.

The fact that you feel better when eating some high calorie food is the giveaway.

Are you saying my symptoms are psychosomatic?

When I eat high calorie foods I just feel better, as in I sleep better more energy less depressd etc.

The best I ever looked in my life was before COVID hit and I actually was eating high carbs and eating big and training hard I seemd to sme how put ona lot of lean mass but now I've gotten skinny fat since no gyms and training with only body weight at home

but even when eating high carbs and eating bigger I felt so tired and fatigued all the time and struggled to work my 9 to 5 job.

You look great man. You're lean enough to where adding a little fat will really help with a lot of your symptoms. Staying that lean all the time, especially as you age will cause many of your issues.

No, symptoms are probably real - because your BF% is unsustainably low

When you eat junk food you are probably on a path to gaining weight and it alleviates the symptoms

If you prioritize face then you'll have issues with body composition. At your weight and doing long period fasts is counterproductive. and yes propecia can really mess with your hormones especially if you take too much. My advice would be to lose the propecia and gain a few lbs and see where that takes you.

Been there done that. Hair isn't as important as you think. A good body and being healthy will take you a lot farther than hair plus it's a losing battle so best to move past it.

Dude you need to rethink your priorities... you sound like you're miserable, and training/following a fitness lifestyle should ENHANCE your life.

    Stop hating yourself...

And FFS, stop saying you're 'puffy'... you're lean.

I'm not going to repeat what has already been said above.

    But I agree with them.

My advice, go look on some of the propeciea forums.

There's a lot of info on them that you may find useful.

Your body fat might be 10%.

And yes you are likely undereating. You'll need to eat more to gain more muscle.

And stop fasting so long. It will make it much harder to gain muscle.
