    Cheat Day? Cheat Meal?

I’ve heard many of successful youtubers and other athletes and fitness gurus alike claim they have a cheat meal once a week where they eat whatever they want.

    I’m not 100% understanding this..
Do they budget the calories they’re going to ingest for that said cheat meal into their daily intake for that day?
Does it throw off an entire week of on point eating and exercise?
I just don’t see how budgeting the calories would be smart, being that a cheat meal for me would be I’m guessing around >2000cal? Doesn’t make sense to starve a whole day just to smash a triple meat from Whataburger 🤷🏻‍♂️

Anyways, any comments, questions, or concerns are greatly welcomed people.
Count ya calories, enjoy ya food, and make gains.

A 'cheat meal' could mean something different to everyone: size, amount of calories, etc...

You could have a 'cheat meal' and it could be 700 calories, or it could be 10,000 calories... whether or not it impacts your weight to any degree is a matter of calorie balance over time, or in this case over the week.

It's pretty simple to understand how this would work, for example if someone's maintenance calories were 2500:

    Day 1: 2000 (-500 Daily deficit)
    Day 2: 2000 (-500 Daily deficit)
    Day 3: 2000 (-500 Daily deficit)
    Day 4: 2000 (-500 Daily deficit)
    Day 5: 2000 (-500 Daily deficit)
    Day 6: 2000 (-500 Daily deficit)
Day 7: 5500 calories (+3000 calories daily surplus) *CHEAT MEAL DAY*
    Weekly Total = 17,500
    Daily Average: 2500 calories (Maintenance)

In the above example, you've stay the same weight despite eating a massive surplus on the 'cheat day'.

Is this a 'good' idea? Well, not for me... I prefer to eat a lot EVERY day, and I think the idea of 'cheating' it just stupid... i have one life to live and f*ck restricting food out of fear of being 'bad' or 'cheating'. If I want cake, Im gunna eat cake... im an adult and 'cheating' with food is kind of a silly childish name if you ask me.

Also, youtubers lie and fake videos all the time... so there's that.

It depends on all the other days and what you're doing. If you're trying to lose its the weekly calorie amount that matters. Generally a big cheat meal or day will negate the rest of the weeks work. It's best to stay consistent with no cheat meals and fit in the foods you like into your daily program.

Isn't it better just to eat tasty food every day? If you're eating a diet that you hate you're gonna break it eventually. Tasty ≠ calorie dense or unhealthy

That’s what I was going to stick with. I’m too OCD with what I put into my body to be guessing what the fast food restaurant is putting into my meal. Lol. And plus it just eliminates any reason I’m not hitting future goals, should I for some reason don’t hit them. I can confidently say “well all those cheat meals I haven’t been indulging in is the cause of this.” Thanks for your input sir!

I 100% agree. Like I’ve told people, if your dieting correctly, you can’t tell you’re on a diet.
