Post Biden and Democrats Planning Massive Tax Increases

Biden and Democrats Planning Massive Tax Increases - if Biden wins.

Democrats behind Joe Biden's campaign believe higher taxes on the wealthy and corporations will not slow economic recovery, planning "significant income redistribution" as soon as 2021, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Democrats want to store the taxes on the wealthy and corporations in order to bring more revenue for government spending in the wake of coronavirus impact payments and bailouts, per the report.

"It's all the more important to protect the retirement and security of working [people] and make sure the wealthy pay their fair share," Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., who would become Finance Committee chairman if Democrats gain control of the Senate, told the Journal. "We'll be ready to go in January of 2021."

President Donald Trump has promoted his once-thriving economy as benefiting from the 2017 tax reform bill that cut corporate taxes, spurring business investment and growth. Biden wants to return to the Obama administration's tax policies, including raising the corporate tax rate up from 21% to 28%, per the report.

"Joe will come in with a more progressive economic policy than we have seen from a Democrat in a long time," Rep. Don Beyer, D-Va., the top Democrat on the Joint Economic Committee, told the Journal. "This is the chance to build an economy that's much more equitable."

Taxing the few wealthy will be popular with most of America, earning votes in November's presidential election.

"Raising taxes on the wealthy and big corporations to help support public investments in things like child care or education promotes economic growth," the progressive Roosevelt Institute's Bharat Ramamurti told the Journal. "It's popular with voters across the political spectrum, too."

Many Republicans would argue there is never a good time to raise taxes, but the Ranking Member of the House Ways and Means Committee, Rep. Kevin Brady, R-Texas, says now would be the worst time.

"Raising taxes on the heels of this economic crisis is like punching a hole in your boat at the end of a storm," Brady told the Journal.

As a citizen or business owner, no matter what political side you are on, how can anyone support this?

The first sentence states: "Democrats behind Joe Biden's campaign believe higher taxes on the wealthy and corporations will not slow economic recovery." This is idiotic to believe or want this. IMO, the US would go into a depression.

Joe Biden says he won’t raise taxes on anyone making under $400,000
    https://www.washingtonpost.com/busin...2/biden-taxes/

“Nobody making under $400,000 bucks would have their taxes raised. Period. Bingo,” Biden said in an interview on CNBC, the business news channel.

The announcement from Biden is a firm line on where he defines middle class versus rich in the United States, and it is notably higher than former president Barack Obama’s promise on the 2008 campaign trail not to raise taxes on households earning less than $250,000. Biden has opted to hike taxes only on the top 2 percent of earners. Obama’s income threshold was roughly at the top 5 percent mark, according to U.S. Census data.

Biden has been clear that he believes taxes should go up on the rich. He plans to roll back President Trump’s tax cuts on households making above the $400,000 threshold and on corporations. Trump’s tax law reduced the income tax on the richest Americans from 39.6 percent to 37 percent.

You mean the billionaires in Canada, right? You have no clue how much the wealthy and ultra-wealthy give back in philanthropy and other worthy causes.

Not worried, Mr. Cock. Even when democrats realize what their leaders want to do with much, much higher taxes, they will turn. But, not you. I am sure you love high taxes.

As far as unemployment, if you haven't noticed, it is as a result of the virus and if you paid attention to economics, the US will recover (not fully) fast. We will adjust and thrive.

The corporate tax rate is 0% for many companies. Also taxes on the rich were much higher in the past. I do lean right economically but you must understand that there's a BALANCE in taxation. Right now the rich pay way too little. There is precedent for this.

It is not my case. I merely posted what the democrat's plans are if they win the white house. I don't need to demonstrate that.

This is where you and your pals are a little slow at understanding. According to SBA 2019, there are 31 million small businesses in the U.S. which account for 99.9 percent of all U.S. businesses. Some are corporations, some are partnerships and some are sole proprietorships. You are telling me that the corporate tax rate is 0 for many companies. You and Tammie only think about the massively huge top 30 corporations. What you never post is their positive economic impacts that they contribute. Tammie especially, cannot grasp the billions of economic dollars these companies generate aside from paying taxes. This is why New York was pissed at AOC. Again, Biden said he won't raise taxes on anyone making 400k per year. If a small business owner makes more than 400k a year they might pay more in taxes, and that's OK. If they don't make that much, it's unlikely they will see any significant change in their taxes. It's a reasonable tax proposal that a moderate like myself supports.

Exactly how they think. What is more puzzling is that the dem voters accept it and don't question it. They just, "Well, ok."

It's almost as if no businesses existed in the 1950's when the top marginal tax rate was 90%.

Fixing our crumbling infrastructure for one. Also paying down the Trump debt which will affect your grandchildren. Making sure your kids have an education. Also most families would not see a tax increase so nice try.

Fixing infrastructure can be done without substantial raising of taxes. It has been discussed. I support it, but not with new taxes.

"Trump debt." Please. Can't you be fair in your argument? The debt increase is a result of both dems and GOP negotiations.

There are many things to pay for than just infrastructure. We are running a massive deficit under the "fiscal conservatives." Raising taxes on the rich is the most reasonable solution and that's coming from a moderate who leans right.

Hey stupid, how can anybody be against it other than a selfish dumb ass?

Trump created a huge debt with his tax cuts which is unsustainable. Do you drive or fly? It takes money to maintain roads and airports. They don’t maintain themselves for free you dumb ass.

It should be big enough to build and maintain our infrastructure without adding to the debt. Trump is wasting billions on a wall and wasting even more billions on unnecessary military spending. Cut wasteful spending like that and taxes won’t go up as much.
