I notice you both have Jones at number 2, at face value I'd also have him at number 2 but I penalized him for usada violations.

I hear you. It's hard to come up with a good, concrete criteria to evaluate the positioning. I didn't consider the extra curricular stuff when it comes to Jones or Silva. I think ultimately that GSP-Jones-Silva separated themselves from Khabib, DC and others based off of career records, their respective peaks and level of competition.

I tried being objective with no favoritism, but my list is still largely subjective, admittedly. I would have loved to see:

    -Prime Spider vs. Jones
    -Prime GSP vs. Khabib
    -Prime Fedor vs. DC
    BJJ Crew
    Muay Thai Crew
    HODL crew

Granted I started watching MMA when the first TUF came out so not the OG OG but GSP was never for me the best fighter the world has ever seen. One, if not the smartest but in terms of skill combined with wit, 12 decisions is no gracias hombre.

Fedor is up there in terms of the most well rounded fighter of all time but you can't count out Khabib/Jones when it comes to pure unrivalled dominance.

    My top 5 would be

    1) Jon Jones
    2) Fedor
    3) Khabib
    4) GSP
    5) Nunes

The rest pick your spot: DC, Cejudo, Ferguson, Silva, Izzy

I'll just class them in teirs

    1. Toss up, Fedor, Khabib, Jones. Each have external reasons for me not choosing a decisive #1
    2. GSP, Henry Cejudo (srs,) Aldo, McGregor

It's really hard to say because the meta is so different today than it was 20 years ago. Even 10 years ago. Adding USADA, etc to the conversation makes things even worse.

This is spot on. The sport has evolved massively both ways. We don't see the horse meat ubereem, belfort, palhares, lesnar etc. as often anymore on one hand but on the other hand the fighters are getting way more well rounded from beginning. There is no more one fighting style background with a pinch of everything else.

There are guys who started training everything at once so they don't have as many weak areas as back then and soon the sport will evolve even further when Sugar Seans, Jimmy Crutes, Aspen Ladds, James Gallaghers, Ismail Naurdievs etc. are going to shine.

LOL @ all these new fans with their recency bias. Brb putting Khabib and DC in there even though they haven't even had half of the career other GOAT candidates have.

Here are Khabib's five best wins:
    Conor McGregor
    Rafael Dos Anjos
    Dustin Poirier
    Edson Barboza
    Al Iaquinta or Michael Johson

That's two very impressive wins and 3-4 decent wins after that. Now compare that to actual GOATs, lmao. Two title defences and he won the title vs Al. Jones, GSP and Anderson won their titles against Shogun, Hughes and Franklin and all have like 8-10 title defences. Seriously wtf man.

BJ is in my top 5 favourite fighters of all time.

Khabib would absolutely destroy prime BJ.

Name BJ's top 5 wins please.

    Get over it.

It's basically a different sport now. Anyone denying this needs to take off their nostalgia glasses.

It's different if you base it on skill mostly instead of accomplishments. I agree that the sport evolves and the skill level goes up. Normally you base a goat list on accomplishments though or people wouldn't talk about Pele, Maradonna, Bjorn Borg etc. in sports like football and tennis.

Also, if you want to talk about how different the sport is now it would not be fair to compare prime BJ to prime Khabib because they would not be in the same weight class. With the extreme weight cutting nowadays prime BJ would be a bantamweight at most. So compare him to Petr Yan and Cejudo. I'd favour prime BJ over the current BW top 3, I'd favour prime GSP over Usman, Colby and Masvidal and I'd favour primer Anderson over Adesanya and Whittaker (maybe not Romero).

The sport evolves and current fighters have a higher level overall. But it also didn't change that much in 10 years.

I know GSP is probably good, but his style just puts me to sleep. [no pun intended]

It's difficult to really gauge it. Talent levels have evolved and the top guys used to be a bit more splintered across disciplines/promotions. Like Overeem was an absolute destroyer before he came to the UFC or overdosed on horse meat but a guy like Badr Hari and a whole host of Dutch fighters were absolutely elite in what combat sports was back then.

This list will end up differently on any other day probably but if I'd have to decide now:

    1. GSP
    2. Anderson Silva
    3. Jones
    4. DC
    5. Fedor
    6. Aldo
    7. Midget Mouse
    8. Conor
    9. Khabib
    10. Bas Rutten

I mostly can think of guys who just couldn't make it in, despite being absolute units. A guy like Overeem could have been an absolute legend if he'd transferred to the UFC a bit sooner for example, haven gotten a belt and defended it a few times.

    Jones
    GSP
    Cejudo
    Khabib
    Conor
    Silva
    DC
    Mighty Mouse
    Fedor
    BJ Penn

The GOAT of GOAT was tough to pick-- GSP on one hand had two belts but he lost twice in championship fights, while Jones is 14-0 and has a perfect recording barring a DQ loss.

Gotta put Cejudo about there, two belts with the Olympic Gold in the back pocket.

    Khabib w/ the pure dominance.

Conor, my personal favourite, is the biggest draw UFC ever had and still has. Fantastic striking and oh he took Floyd to the 10th round in his first boxing bout?

Anderson Silva, one of the pioneers of the GOAT discussion.

Mighty Mouse, 12-2 in title fights before leaving UFC.

    Fedor, DUH.

Bj Penn, another personal favourite that I put in the top 10 for showmanship, his craft, and remember when fought Machida at heavyweight? Das it mane.

Nice to see only one idiot here actually added Conor to the list. Conor simply hasn't fought enough tough contenders to be anywhere near a top10 P4P list. Khabib beats conor 99 out of 100 times.

The guy almost lost to Nate Diaz twice lmao. He would make the list of top10 P4P stand up strikers though.

    Holloway (Champ)
    Poirier (interim champ/title challenger)
    Mendes (2x title challenger)
    Aldo (Champ/FW GOAT)
Diaz (title challenger/outweighed Conor by like 20lbs)
    Alvarez (Champ)
    Cerrone (title challenger)

    Two weight world champion
    Wins in 3 divisions
One of the most legendary runs to a title of all time (7 wins, 6 KOs, 6 performance bonuses, defeated the GOAT in almost unfathomable fashion)

Multiple people have Conor on their list ITT, not just one

    You are truly retarded

Conor's peak is one of the highest ever. Both of those performances are insane. I am (or was, because he hasn't been active) a huge Conor fan. I just don't think peaking for 2 years is enough to be considered the best. Winning 3 title fights impressively isn't the same as defending your title 11 times like Silva, finishing most of your fights.

Also the "made his mark at 170" is bull****. He fought two journeyman LWs at WW without the weight cut.

Whether you're a Conor fan or not, you can't say it's idiotic to consider him for the list. He's 22-4 and a two division champ. Henry Cejudo's 16-2 and a two division champ.
Always root for Jim Miller crew.

Holloway moved up for that. Imagine Conor fighting Woodley, Colby, or Masvidal.. Conor would get wrecked.

Poirier is a good fighter indeed, and adds to the claim Conor can make this list, but it isn't enough.

Conor was challenged HARD by mendes, (a gate keeper, lets be real)

Aldo, no excuses for aldo, but he got dropped before we had a chance to see much.

Diaz (gatekeeper) is a big light weight true, but his skills are mediocre. Conor almost lost twice to him.

Alvarez, this guy got lucky he even held the belt.

Cerrone, another gate keeper than proves nothing.

Conor the champ who never defends his title, and got spoonfed the light weight title, yep
