I've made a couple of threads on this forum over the last couple of years (from 2013 onwards),
some with better success than others.
Today I sit at a whopping 171kg at 27 years of age. I've never been a "regular" size individual,
nevermind an athlete. I've lifted in the gym over the years and put on some muscle, but nothing
I would consider above average, or even average for that matter.
Day by day, I have more and more pain in my body. I dread getting up and going for a walk because
my feet are in pain for days after. I dread getting up to go downstairs because I will have to climb
them again when coming back up.
Currently, due to the pandemic, I live & work at home. I spend most of my day in front of a computer,
and make a living as a software engineer, and living a sedentary lifestyle is causing me a ton of pain, in my legs, back, feet etc.
I don't look for pity, I don't look for encouragement/discouragement, I post now for all those that
might be following a similar path than me, or follow along at a later stage.
For this first 30 days, I have decided to follow a keto lifestyle, to change my outlook on food,
and to perhaps give my body the shock it needs to recover from a 6k+ calorie junk a day intake
that I have been living with for the past year. I need a change.
I have set my macros at 2,000 cal | 25c 156f 125p | 38 fibre, which is a 5% / 70% / 25% split.
Yes, my calories are low for my body weight, so I will likely get hungry. No, I don't plan on adjusting it, at least for the first month, to get my body more used to consuming the correct foods.
I have ordered ketone test strips to measure whether I am in ketosis or not, but I am less worried about that happening for at least the first week since I get little to no exercise at the moment.

Felt very hungry throughout the day, and ended up going over by quite a margin on calories.

Today's log :
Today has gone better in terms of hunger, although I got hungry between breakfast and lunch, and then again closer to dinner time. Doubt splitting up meals even further would help with the hunger,
I think my body is just not used to eating so little in a day, so some reprogramming is necessary.
At least I am within today's calorie goals. Let's hope for more of these days to come.

Today's log :
Felt less hungry today, not sure if I was just busier than the other days so far.
Feel good over all. Protein is too high though, snacked on biltong too much which
added a ton of protein to my day (yikes). Receiving my ketone test strips tomorrow,
doubt i'll be in ketosis yet, but "fingers crossed".
Edit from the 28th, received the strips early in the morning before my meals. Tested,
and I fall solidly within the 1.5mmol/l category of "small amounts" of ketones in my urine.
Guess that's a good sign? Anyways, I'm still sticking with keto for the 30 days regardless,
as I don't think anything less with give me an accurate estimate of how my body handles it
long(er) term.

Today's log :
So I woke up feeling quite sick today. Running nose, headache etc. Writing it off as a cold from the sudden change in weather we
have had over the last couple of days. Over all, feeling good today in terms of food intake. My carb intake is a little over what
my target is, today is at 30g instead of under 25g. I'm not too worried, at first I was but I think I need to let it be for now.
All in all, it has been a good day, and I think that the next week or so will be the hardest in terms of staying on course.

Today's log :
Today has been good and bad. Good because I think I stuck to my intake very well and avoided temptation at the house.
Bad because my significant other got retrenched. Usually, both our escapes were to food, so dealing with the stress of this
without it is kind of strange. Lucky thus far we have both stayed strong, and have decided to have a calculated divergence
from the 30-day keto on Sunday afternoon. We're cheating for about an hour, but still staying within calories. It will put
me out of ketosis, but I know I'll hop back into it in a day or two, I'm not severely phased by it since refeeds are not a bad
thing in itself.
I feel good today, although I got quite hungry during the afternoon and during the evening. I can see it's because I was so far
under my calories for the day, so I am not surprised. Honestly, though, I feel great otherwise.
Tested this morning and got 8mmol/l of ketones, which according to the chart is "large" amounts, so I guess that is good? It's
second highest on the measuring chart so I think I am safe to say that my body is producing ketones freely now, now my body needs
to learn to use them properly. Fingers crossed.

Saturday, 30th of May 2020
Today's log :
Today was good for the most part. Kept very busy which helped with the appetite. Ended up skipping lunch by accident since I was
out doing shopping for next week's meals as well as planning them out in advance. I ended up having my lunch and dinner portions
together instead, so that's why that meal looks a lot bigger than it should.
All in all, I still stayed around my calorie budget for the day, so I am happy. I am planning a bit of a high carb day tomorrow. Between
the stress that's been going on in my life and the keto restrictions, I feel like it is justified, although I am not making a habit out of it.
Going to try my best to still stay within calorie amounts overall though.

Today's log :
End of week #1 on keto. Today was a non-keto day, with life stress getting to my family, I decided to lift the restrictions for
today only and splurge a little.
Weight this morning was: 166.5kg (down from 171kg last Monday morning). Will have a final weigh-in tomorrow morning to
see the week's results, but so far it seems promising. Calculated from calories in vs calories burned, I should have lost just over 1kg,
but this mornings result was 4.5kg lost for week 1. I expect a lot of this to be my system flushing of whatever was in it, junk food etc
that was bloating me, so the loss for the week ahead will likely be a lot less (closer to 1-2kg).
All in all, a good first week. Managed to log every day, which has me happy. Back to the keto grind tomorrowWeight log

Monday, 1st of June 2020
Today's log :
Feel a tad sluggish today, struggled to wake up to be honest. Not very motivated today..
Weigh in at 166.6kg, so 0.1kg up from yesterday. To be expected after my deviation from the
strict diet etc, but all in all I don't feel too bad about it. 0 ketones on the test as well again, so
have to get back into ketosis. Probably get back into producing ketones by Thursday again, no
cheat planned this week, looking at going 2 weeks now before having a bit of "off" time. Perhaps
longer, will see.
I ended up skipping lunch because I got busy with organizing the house. Also wasn't
perticularly hungry, and I am trying to not eat if my body doesn't feel it requires the
food. Got hungry at around 4:30pm, got cooking at around 5:15pm and then ate around 6:15pm. Currently 11pm and only starting to get pekish again now, so it
lasted me quite a while (cauliflower soup ). Hope tomorrow also goes well in terms
of deficit.
