How necessary is the stand for Ironmaster dumbbells? I'm debating grabbing them (when they're back in stock) without the stand and sticking them underneath a bed. However, if the stand adds some major functionality, i dont mind buying them with the stand as well.
(I'm sure maybe it's more useful for the larger kits, but I won't be upgrading past the 75lbs)

I have the stand, but not the dumbbells, I think I got it for $30 or so off Craigslist, its a fairly sturdy heavy sheet metal unit, but I suspect it can be wobbly when loaded with the 150lb total. I use it for storing some workout stuff and I may end up using at as a computer or printer stand in the future.
You could get the dumbbells without the stand but you might want a plate tree or something to put the plates on, and possibly build some kind of work surface to load and store the dumbbells out of wood. If it were me I'd probably get the stand.

I have it and it's not wobbly at all when heavy. Has rubber feet that help.
You will want a stand of some sort. Changing plates while in the floor will be a pain. You could always build one that has more space with plate holders, but the one it comes with is good enough.
One key thing about the IM stand is to use it oriented vertically to your orientation so the dumbells fit when loaded heavy.

Love my stand, had it for 6 almost 7 years along with the 75lb set(and a number of other Ironmaster equipment). Happy to report that in that time it's never shaken or stirred, even with fully loaded dumbbells on the top platform. It's almost too heavy duty, cause when I try to pick the thing up and move it to another part of the house, it'll put up a fight lemme tell ya. It's a great investment though for anyone looking for a nice compact but strong stand/storage unit for your dumbbells, or anything else you can fit in it such as kettlebells, bands, ab roller, etc. It's great for cleaning up your workspace.
