    B

I learned to cook during this quarantine. Prior to it, all I knew were eggs, oats and putting stuff in a pan.

We now use HelloFresh, Greenchef and Imperfect Foods.

Most meat and veggies can be baked @ 425 for 20ish minutes. Add a lot of salt pepper and lemon or lime zest. Fish is only baked for 12 minutes.

We spend $200ish a week on groceries due to this for 2 people.

Crazy, they think that something as simple as vegetables are something only the rich can afford......

I mean, they really have a low opinion towards minorities, kind of insulting.

A large issue is lower income areas do not have great access to supermarkets. A lot of low income do not have vehicles, their power may be shutting off and inner cities rely on corner stores rather than traditional grocery stores.

That only pertains to a segment of the population, but carbs tend to last longer on the shelf than fresh produce. You can buy $100 of cereal and $100 of produce, the cereal will not spoil and fill you up.

    Then there's the laziness factor.

When everyone was going crazy in March, all of the junk food was cleared off the shelves, all of the produce was pretty much untouched. The 10lb bags of rice was also untouched. Human society is interesting.

Diet almost always just consists of boil some chicken breast/thigh, broccoli, bean/rice. Will eat steaks sometimes depending on calorie need and fruit.

Cheat meal once/twice a week for social purpose.

Lazy to cook anything else and just eat for gainz.

Cooking at home is always almost cheaper in the long run especially when one consider the health impact of fast food.

z, low-fat mozz in moderate amounts is good protein with flavor. I said healthy and that includes how much or little to use to make it not unhealthy, satisfying and good for several days. Chicken is good, clean protein.

A burger made at home is technically cheaper than one bought from McDonald's, but you're not thinking critically. You can't go to the store and buy 3oz of beef, one bun, two slices of cheese, a slice of pickle, and 1/4th ounce of minced onion, and one tablespoon of mayo, mustard and ketchup. No, you need to buy $15 worth of ingredients, and then you need to take time to cook it, and you have to know what you're doing, or it will taste like shyt. Also, junk food and fast food is all fortified, trying to get all of your micronutrient needs from a wholesome organic meal on the cheap is almost impossible.
So are you saying that the rest of the $15 worth of condiments won't be there when you make another burger bro? That's a pretty sad excuse to choose the fast food over making something yourself that ends up being healthier and without much trouble...actually tasting better.

My cholesterol and ratio is excellent. I take zero prescriptions. Low BP and when my gym opens back up it won't take me long to get back to 350+ bench. But, I have worked out all through this lockdown.

BTW, what do you eat for protein? Soy?

I think he's saying that a guy with $3 bucks in his pocket today can't spend $15 today. Math.

So, z is a vegan? I did not know that, but it all makes sense now. I was joking about the soy, but it's probably right on.

z, might want to check for man-boobs and your estrogen count. Not making fun. For real.

I can get 200g of protein with zero soy, but I don't base my protein needs from bodybuilding mags from the 80's.

Condiments, yes, everything else, most likely no. That $15 will yield you three poverty burgers. Whereas you can buy ten McDoubles with the same amount of money.

Where do you shop bro? A pound of ground beef should be like $5 even if you buy it in a small portion; more like $3/lb if you buy the big pack. A pack of buns is like $2. Lettuce is $1. You buying new bottles of ketchup every time you go to the store?

Brb... making burger then throwing away ketchup immediately.

I lol'd at the picture in my head of throwing away a full ketchup bottle after each burger.

Last time we made burgers, they were made out of Elk and Bison, and the ingredients for that one meal cost maybe $35. But I recall as a child being poor as shyt, living in the ghetto, and while we didn't eat out much, most of what my parents bought was unhealthy and processed. Deli meat, hot dogs, bread, cereals. Because it was all cheap, and easy to make. Both of my parents worked multiple jobs, I didn't see them much unless it was a weekend, and that was just my mom, because my father worked 7 days a week. My mother cooked once a day, and it was always at night, and for the next day's lunch, and it was always the same thing. Rice, beans, and chicken or pork, because that's what was cheap.

Like I said in my first post, theoretically cooking your own food is cheaper, but it takes planning, discipline, things that many people unfortunately don't have now a days.

I cook all my own meals.

I average about $150 per meal and that is a high estimate.

Pride myself on it and am a good cook. Dinner today was drumsticks, beans, veggies and garlic bread. The chicken was #10 for $5. Had 2 legs so nowhere near even a bucks worth. The beans were $2 for a big can but it will last 4 meals.

Veggies were pennies. Bread was a bread roll I got a big sack of for .68.

Maybe spend $5 a day for 3-4 meals. maybe.

Breakfast is 2 eggs, hash browns one sausage. Maybe .50 total including the oil for cooking.
