China has new US$1.4 trillion plan to seize the world’s tech crown from the US

As the US and the rest of the world continue to decouple from China, China is becoming more aggressive to achieve the #1 spot.

China has new US$1.4 trillion plan to seize the world’s tech crown from the US
Beijing is accelerating its bid for global leadership in key technologies, planning to pump more than a trillion dollars into the economy through the roll-out of everything from next-generation wireless networks to artificial intelligence (AI).

In the master plan backed by President Xi Jinping himself, China will invest an estimated 10 trillion yuan (US$1.4 trillion) over six years to 2025, calling on urban governments and private hi-tech giants like Huawei Technologies to help lay 5G wireless networks, install cameras and sensors, and develop AI software that will underpin autonomous driving to automated factories and mass surveillance.

The new infrastructure initiative is expected to drive mainly local giants, from Alibaba Group Holding and Huawei to SenseTime Group at the expense of US companies.

As tech nationalism mounts, the investment drive will reduce China’s dependence on foreign technology, echoing objectives set forth previously in the “Made in China 2025” programme. Such initiatives have already drawn fierce criticism from the Trump administration, resulting in moves to block the rise of Chinese tech companies such as Huawei.

“Nothing like this has happened before, this is China’s gambit to win the global tech race,” said Digital China Holdings chief operating officer Maria Kwok, as she sat in a Hong Kong office surrounded by facial recognition cameras and sensors. “Starting this year, we are really beginning to see the money flow through.”

The tech investment push is part of a fiscal package waiting to be signed off by China’s legislature, the National People’s Congress, which convenes this week. The government is expected to announce infrastructure funding of as much as US$563 billion this year, against the backdrop of the country’s worst economic performance since the Mao era.

The nation’s biggest purveyors of cloud computing and data analysis Alibaba, the parent company of the South China Morning Post, and Tencent Holdings will be linchpins of the upcoming endeavour. China has already entrusted Huawei, the world’s largest telecommunications equipment supplier, to help galvanise 5G. Tech leaders including Pony Ma Huateng and Jack Ma are espousing the programme.

Maria Kwok’s company is a government-backed information technology systems integration provider, among many that are jumping at the chance. In the southern city of Guangzhou, Digital China is bringing half a million units of project housing online, including a complex three quarters the size of Central Park in New York City. To find a home, a user just has to log on to an app, scan their face and verify their identity. Leases can be signed digitally via smartphone and the renting authority is automatically flagged if a tenant’s payment is late.

China is no stranger to far-reaching plans with massive price tags that appear to achieve little. There is no guarantee this programme will deliver the economic rejuvenation its proponents promise. Unlike previous efforts to resuscitate the economy with “dumb” bridges and highways, this newly laid digital infrastructure will help national champions develop cutting-edge technologies.

“China’s new stimulus plan will likely lead to a consolidation of industrial internet providers, and could lead to the emergence of some larger companies able to compete with global leaders, such as GE and Siemens,” said Nannan Kou, head of research at BloombergNEF, in a report. “One bet is on industrial internet-of-things (IoT) platforms, as China aims to cultivate three world leading companies in this area by 2025.”

China is not alone in pumping money into the technology sector as a way to get out of the post-coronavirus economic slump. Earlier this month, South Korea said AI and wireless communications would be at the core of it its “New Deal” to create jobs and boost growth.

Remember I posted that thread of how Bernie Sanders was calling for a nationwide broadband rollout to invest in America across the board over the long-term. I also posted a thread about how China has laid a fiber network throughout it's entire country border to border. The general consensus from republican-members was that it was unnecessary, stupid, who's going to pay for it, etc.

This is just one reason as to why America is getting the sht kicked out of it.

    meanwhile in America:

I wonder if the Chinese allow American companies for critical infrastructure.

Tecom, it's sad for me to say, but you're literally the worst poster on this forum.

And Tammy, yes, we'll need a massive amout of subsidization to compete with this and many other initiatives. China can print as much money as they need to, there is no concern for debt. It was part of a Chinese misinformation campaign to make people think China would implode at some point due to its ballooning debt, everyone got taken for a ride, all by design.

Doesn't it concern you though how divided your country is? China has these xx-year plans and any planning the US empire does in terms of foreign aggression and planning (foreign policy in general) seems to be outside the realm of public discourse. When you look at Washington/Congress all you see is straight division down the middle, arguing and bickering. It's incredibly weak especially in the face of this unprecedented threat.

No, because there is bipartisan support behind a lot of anti-China legislation and that continues to be a trend. I would be VERY concerned if that changed, irregardless of the President or political party controlling the White House. China having such long range strategic plans is a concern for our government though and it's been something that's been highlighted numerous times and is more than likely why our legislature is actually working together on everything. It's hard to articulate the gravity of the situation right now because it's not something that's in front of your face 24/7 in the media but it's very serious. I believe it and not that hard to do. Just go to Google Maps and type in Arlington National Cemetery and you can see the individual plots. Move around Washington DC or any city and you can see people and their shadows. Military-grade satellites can recognize people.

What significant anti-China legislation has been proposed or enacted recently? And even if the US were united and focused on the 21st century, they are divided by democratic design which is by-nature a slower, decentralized process. Then there is the problem of disconnect between US military/foreign policy and public discourse. China HEAVILY invested in the US and not reciprocated. America more divided than ever. America more in debt than ever. America currently in one of it's weakest points, all because of a virus that originated in China.

I want America and the West to come out on top but I honestly don't see it happening. We are too weak collectively against a malicious entity set on global domination. We can't rely on the US military it's basically just an arm of the banks and Wall Street.

The good news is everyone hates China right now, specifically the West (who they steal all thier ideas from). So while we may be divided due to our libcuck media, everyone is unified (aside from some libsoys) in their hate for the CCP

Google "US China Legislation" under the news category.

With regards to America, a similar thing happened in the years leading up to World War 2. America's manufacturing sector was in the ****ter and American corporations were helping Nazi Germany build up their infrastructure. The only thing China is missing is a more fanatical leader. And as you've seen play out over the last couple years, there's been a push to ween off American MNCs and others off of China with a lot of push back, much like what occurred pre-WW2 (which lead to the re-introduction of anti-trust legislation).

At the moment I'm not worried about America, its military, or its approach to China. Cutting off China is the best course of action right now that avoids direct conflict, but I don't personally feel that will last forever. China really is hellbent on ruling the world and I don't think anyone's fond of an authoritarian superpower being the top dog.

Honestly, chinese innovation isnt what scares me. Its their industrial espionage that we really need to worry about. Its them stealing our latest tech and slapping a "Made In China" sticker on it, that should keep everyone up at night. I dont know what our "leaders" thought when they decided to allow a communist, predatory country like China, FREE access to our companies and our markets when they werent doing the same, and when they were actively working against the interest of our country and our companies.

Chinese investments are usually chit. Theres a reason why they arent investing heavily in infrastructure this time around. What theyre basically doing right now is Solyndra x1000000.

China was handing over enough financial incentive for Presidential administrations, business leaders, analysts, and anyone else to look the other way. They also spent a significant amount of resources to make the West believe that they were on the verge of collapse, that their economy was never amount to anything substantial, that they had no aspirations of world domination, etc. It's all part of the Art of War, and everyone was taken for a ride. The faster people get rid of these misconceptions of China, the better.

its not just the unemployed. there is a food shortage in china due to the large population and the spread of diseases killing their livestock. i read somewhere that they import more meats than they currently produce, so they don't have a viable/sustainable way to feed themselves. if it the trend continues, there will be lots of unemployed and starving people.... the great chinese famine (1958-1961) had an estimated 40 million die of starvation; it was so bad, there was cannibalism. the next famine will be even worse

with that said, they are going to need the IT infrastructure, satellites and cameras to control the people and the information getting out. just like the wuhan virus, they will hide and lie to save face.

Yes, I’m aware, I meant to type starving and got an auto correct on my phone.

China has been the number 1 beneficiary of the US lead post WW2 world order, thanks to us securing shipping lines it has allowed many countries, especially China, to expand their economic reach without investing in a blue water navy and securing their own shipping lines.

Now the US is pulling back from this outdated role. When we inevitably pull back from the ME Iran and Saudi Arabia will destabilize the region and China does not have anything remotely close to the hard power needed to project and maintain a deterrent presence in the Persian Gulf.

They will suffer energy starvation. Hence the massive importance of their One Belt One Road initiative due to their lack of Blue Water Navy and even if they start today they will never catch up to America’s cutting edge Navy power.

That is just one of the many problems the CCP is facing, they are at the beginning of their collapse, the world now must be very vigilant of their actions, they are basically a cornered animal lashing out and hanging on for dear life.
