    Bodybuilding vs Cardio Workouts

    Hi,

I'm hoping this is the appropriate to ask this.

I'm looking for some advice on the impact of doing cardio sessions while trying to build muscle at the same time. My background is indoor rowing and I have trained and competed in events on rowing machines for several years. I have always wanted to lift weights and build muscle. I have started doing that now and I'm two weeks in and it's going well. I still enjoy rowing though, I don't want to do as much as I used to as weights are now my priority but will rowing 1-2 a week have a negative impact on trying to build muscle or what effect does that have. Should I be doing cardio workouts at all?

I've heard different takes on this so looking for some advice here.

    Jamie

Jamie, first off - welcome to BB forums.

I myself did notice the difference, but this is mostly due to calorific deficit, which in my case always associated with cardio. Not from cardio by itself. This is scenario familiar to pretty much anybody who were doing bulk-cut cycles.

I'd say just keep doing what you're doing and add about 500 calories on days you do cardio. Keep the protein intake fairly high too.
