    Independent Contractor Questions...

I started a side gig as an IC doing referrals. I'll be paid on a share of net profit and will be 1099d.

My question is if I share commission with someone else for helping me get a referral do I need to provide them anything? In this scenario I'm a signed IC (NDA, referral agreement) and the other party is not.

    Thoughts? Reps till I'm out.

I would try to have your employer provide the other person a 1099. When you start paying the other person a commission and providing them a 1099, it's like you are now an I.C. and an employer. To me, that's more paperwork and filing to deal with. Let your employer do the extra paperwork for the other guy.

They did say they would be willing to cut separate checks and issue 1099s so I'll give that a try, thanks.

OP, if the money is going from you to them, then this ^^^

If the people paying you are the ones splitting the commission and dividing to another party I would assume the people paying you would also be issuing a 1099 to this other person.

Right now it sounds like you're basically an employer though.

As a business owner who worked for a franchiser I had to provide them all of my income. They then 1099'd me.

Get a w-9 from them and 1099 them at the end of the year if it is over 600

    1099

With the new tax plan, it definitely benefits a 1099 contractor. You obviously still pay taxes but my taxes have been far less the last few years under TRUMP
