You don't want super high PSI.

I have a little electric 1800psi one that I use with a rotating nozzle gun. I normally use the 20 degree nozzle and hold it a few feet from the car.

I bought a cheap 1800psi electric pressure washer from Harbor Freight like 5y ago that is still alive and kicking that I specifically use for my vehicles...

That with a foam cannon and the two bucket method.... makes my dookie twinkle

Also let it be known that you almost cant resist putting the foam cannon between your legs and dropping a load on your car while screaming "BRAZZERS".. my neighbors have no goddamn sense of humor what so ever

I have a little 1,600psi Ryobi that I bought from Home Depot that does just fine. Definitely going to want longer hoses though especially if you have a truck.

3000 PSI with a 25 degree nozzle is the sweet spot. You can switch between 15, 25, and 40 depending on your use. Just keep the nozzle 18 inches away from the paint.

Anything under 3000 psi turns into a mickey mouse machine. I guarantee you'll find new several new uses once you buy a pressure washer, and it's nice to power wash your driveway properly.

Rain is strong enough to erode dirt/concrete and asphalt shingles over time. Don't believe me? Take the nozzle of a pressure washer and a patch of dirt. You'll quickly see a hole in the ground.

I have not done testing as of yet, but for now, car soap/several clean sponges/and a simple garden water hose without a spray noozle is all you need. And grit guards. Use the water hose on flow mode and just flow the water over the car.

Again, the more you have to wash your vehicle, the more scratches you will instill. The act of washing is very abrasive.

I bought that SunJoe one off of Amazon, but then I'd get lazy and not feel like wheeling it out, so it got rarely used.

Then I opened it up, took out the pump and stuck it on a shelf. Much more convenient now, just hook up a hose with quick disconnect and that's it.

I bought a Greenworks 1700psi electric pressure washer from Lowe's. It's not powerful enough to remove build-ups of dirt, but I only really use it to get the car wet because I wash by hand. The one I have is super portable.

They wanted me to buy a proprietary hose extension for it which would leave a huge lump when the hose was rolled up. Would never deal with another company pulling this bs again.

I've been using the 25' extension on it with no issues for years. Sounds like a personal problem tbh.

remember not to put the nozzle too close to the paint while spraying it as the waterjet is very powerful and is essentially drilling the clearcoat of the car if you put it too close

you want as little abrasion as possible on car paint, pressure washers inherently abrade, a foam cannon being the exception. you just want to agitate the dirt enough for it to float in the suds then sheet it off with the open hose like he said. that's why you two bucket with grit guards and why foam cannons are so nice

Pressure washers used correctly (less than 3000 psi for cars, don't get too close etc.) literally do not cause any abrasion on modern clear coat, its been tested over and over and over again, including by myself. Almost every professional level detailer uses a pressure washer. There are of course exceptions such as classic cars with single stage paint. There is of course some common sense involved but as a rule pressure washers aren't dangerous to paint.

What nozzle do you retards think we're using? We aren't using the nozzle that you would use to pressure wash your ****ing house lmao.

A 40 degree nozzle won't abrade anything as long as you aren't holding it an inch from your paint. Hell sometimes I can't even remove bugs with it. That's how gentle that stream of water is. Obsessed Garage uses the exact same setup and I'm sure as hell going to believe him over some red on a bodybuilding forum.

there's common sense to it all, but i don't go recommending rotary polishers to people who say they want to "polish their car like the pros". start with an orbital right?

someone who knows nothing about pressure washers is very likely to find a stubborn spot or a rock chip, get up close and take a chunk of clear home with them. i'd rather tell them to figure out the 2 bucket and how to dry properly first

Or you can just tell them to watch a 1 minute video on Youtube on how to pressure wash a car.

I have never used a pressure washer or foam cannon to wash a car before how many feet away should I stand away? It is 1900 PSI. Any YouTube videos you guys recommend?

Just to clarify, im not against the use of pressure washers. There are situations that calls for it. But its quite rare.

You don't want to use a pressure washer on your garage queen if immaculate paint condition is your goal.

Of course using the pressure washer here and there won't do much. But over time damages does show up. Water is enough to damage a car but more so when its under pressure.

Don't wash the car like you're trying to wash the paint off and problem solved. Also don't be stupid and use something like a 10 degree nozzle at 6 inch distance lol

Lets say you wash a garage queen only a handful of times over your course of ownership, say about 5 years of ownership. The car will most likely look pristine as the day you bought it. However, alot of people who buy nice cars and are average incomed tend to be clean freaks or anal. Being too clean in this situation can actually be more hurtful than helpful. Some people will take their car to the wash 1 -2 times a week or even more. In that situation, a new car will become duller and duller the following years. This is the situation over and over with most suburban car owners.

Oh and I have accidentally blasted paint off my car with a pressure washer, lol. Its common sense but I was lazy with a stubburn dirt stain on my car. But its just that, people are lazy to properly wash their car the right way. Imo, that takes way more effort and the right way, at least for now, is water hose on flow/several wash buckets/several sponges/grit guards.

Im a GM exec. I have about 20 cars in a private garage. These cars are normal cars, not ferrari or lambo. The paint of all of them are in the same exact condition as the day it left the car factory - not because I don't drive them, but because I know how to take care of em. But thats just speaking on my behalf. Imagine if everyone was on my level and took good care of their cars. They would last forever and the cars you see on the road are all shiny.
