    What's more effective.. Doing sets of reps, or just doing one big set with all your reps?

    I suggest you learn about Volume=weightxrepxsets. Progressive overload is how you progress. For a beginner 3 sets of 10 reps should be good. 5 sets of 5 will be more for strength. 3x10-20 reps as far as isolation exercises.
