Smart man. I used to cringe at people who would only get state minimum limits of 25k/50k. It's fine if you have nothing to lose but when we also had insurance on their 300k house I'd try my best to talk them out of it. If your a homeowner you should have 100k/300k limits minimum. Medical bills are expensive as fuk now days. Also make sure you get that uninsured motorist coverage. Some shady insurance salesmen will leave it off to get your quote lower

Well that example ^^ has $38k going into a retirement account, $24k going into their home equity, and $12k flowing into a college savings plan. Maybe they don't have much extra sitting in their account at the end of the year, but they're building more net worth annually than the median US household grosses

That's not so bad. But with a $350k income, they could probably do more to reduce their tax burden

then the umbrella has 1mil/2mil for bodily injury and property damage and 500/1mil for personal injury

Yes agreed thats why I am saying its an actual depiction and they are doing SOME things responsibly but IMO others not. As example, I make a considerable amount more than this example and I dont have the burden of the childcare and do not send my kids to private school. Thats a huge expense in their monthly statement. I dont believe $350k income is enough to justify those expenses. That $4500 a month can be going into a investment account as an example.

Mortgage/taxes/insurances - $1,300 (only like $600 is P&I, half a mile from the bay so I have to carry homeowners, windstorm and flood coverages)
    Truck - $500
    Food - ~$500
    Insurance - $230 (full coverage on 2 vehicles, mine + wife's)
Gas (auto) - Lolz, like $50/month right now
    Electric - $125
    Cable/internet - $125
    Water - $75
    Gas (house) - $30

    ~$2,900 total

Whatever is left after that goes into investments and a joint account with my wife for toys/trips/home repairs/entertainment/etc.

Yeah, she throws in $1,000-1,200/month towards those bills I listed and handles her own car note/cell phone/random day to day expenses. Both of us have zero out of pocket health insurance through our jobs and both have company funded retirement plans so that helps too.
