Do you view police more ngatively than previous? WHen did it change?

For me it was the Thomas Kelly beating and death.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Kelly_Thomas

Cops served no time. And i think 1 of them ended up being a little league umpire at some point...wouldnt be surprised if they're cops again working in a different city.

THen I would come across several vids of cops abuse of power. One where a cop confronts a few teens for something minor and one of the teens cracks a joke and the cop ends up slapping him and some other bs.

THen another vid of a cop tackling and arresting a guy in his own front yard for recording an incident of cops responding to something down the street. Lots of vids similar to this.

More negatively ever since that trooper from FL was putting narcotics in people's vehicles and arresting them. All on video. What a psychopath.

No. When I was younger, I had a negative view. As I got older I realized it’s a handful of bad apples that get heavily publicized, while the good ones never get mentioned. Seems like a thankless job.

More negatively after experiences with the local county police. I get nervous as fuk now whenever they are driving behind me and I'm sure that makes it even more likely to do something to get stopped but I cant help it after the stuff that happened with them.

I've only had 1-2 bad experiences with cops, and im not fool enough to say their job is easy, but its absolutely ridiculous how low the standard for them is. Probably the only career where you could **** up tremendously and get innocent ppl killed and still keep ur job

It depends, here in KS I've yet to have any issue with the police. The one time I was pulled over for for pulling out of an entrance onto traffic without stopping all I got was a warning. While in Houston I got pulled over because per the cops "I didn't look like I could afford the car I was driving". All my sh!t was legit and I had just got off my woodworking job so I was a little dusty.

My default mode is to avoid them at all costs. They remind me kind of like wasps or hornets. If you happen to walk by one, they probably won't fuk with you, especially if you keep moving. But if you linger too long, get too close to the nest or swat at it your azz is going to get lit up srs

They are a necessary evil, so avoid them if you can, and always keep your tags and insurance up so as to not give them an excuse.

A lot of them have some sort of personality disorder to where they are needlessly abusive over small things and enjoy ridiculing and antagonizing people over minor issues. They are hoping you will stand up for yourself, which they use as an excuse to hurt you and cost you money.

Much more negative since the day my brother got pulled over (I was next to him) and the cop lied about the speed he was going (he was on cruise control going 74 in a 70, cop said he caught him at 86, which was bs, I looked over at the speedometer when I saw the cop rolling up behind us, before he flipped his lights on). We told him to check his radar and he went back for like 10 seconds and returned, saying it was working properly, more bs.

The cop was totally respectful though, it was like he was going about business as usual, stealing from people.

When I was poor going through college as a TA, I was driving down the road going home to my ghetto apartment and got pulled over for a tag light being out. The guy was a real dik to me and at one point asked if I had any guns, knives, or nuclear weapons. I told him I had a 50 megaton in the toolbox. 2 hours and 6 backup units later, I had a pretty strong disdain from police ever since. He can joke with me but I cannot joke back? I tried to submit a complaint to the department and basically wasn't allowed to. They kept giving me the run around.

A year or so later I was working out at the university gym, and apparently I was going hard enough at it that a trainer there asked me what I was training for. I told him "training to run from the police and then beat up 6 of them after 1 shoots me in the leg". An off duty university meter maid over heard me and took great offense to this and tried to get me arrested for making threats.

    So yeah, fuk the police.

    This

I used to dislike the police, mainly because I used to break the law a lot and didn't want to get arrested.

Ever since I became a homeowner I have come to appreciate and respect the police.

The police in my current town are excellent, and I'm grateful to have them to protect my home.

Now, Chicago cops are all ass holes, and always will be, but they are dealing with a segment of society I will never have to interact with again as long as I keep my ass out of jail, and having been in Chicago's jail, I can understand why they are how they are.

But they are still ass holes.

I always have and still have a positive view of Law Enforcement (biased I guess), but I know a lot in various fields and across different departments; the vast majority want to do good, and do their job right. The few bad ones just stand out so much; very few people know or care (News never really reports it) when the police do good, because it's not as interesting.
Short cuts to success are often paved with lies.

Imagine what its like being a non dickhead cop, and most the people you come in contact with treating you like **** because they see a few news stories about a small number of bad cops, and because they got pulled over once and a cop was a dick to them.

Makes the job lots of fun constantly being treated like an ******* for something I had nothing to do with and im just trying to do my job.

Yeah some police are dicks but it doesnt make it right to treat all cops like **** and make their job harder as some personal vendetta.

Once when I was a kid riding my bike, car turning left on the intersection almost hit me in the crosswalk. Motorcycle cop saw everything and ticketed me for riding bike in the crosswalk and I had to go to a Saturday class so I “wouldn’t get squashed like a bug”. Keep in mind I was a kid, not some hardcore spandex biker going 25 mph.

Second time when I got into cars and heard horror stories about power hungry cops bullying owners with nice cars/sportbikes. Then I discovered speeding tickets are a huge source of state revenue, and that is police’s main purpose, aside from the occasional domestic abuse call (most violent/property crimes occur in police’s absence). Then I discovered the police have no legal obligation to protect citizens, so “Protect and Serve” is basically a meme at this point, not also to mention their job is less dangerous than many tradie jobs statistically.

Third time when I got into guns and learned all about the ATF, SWAT teams, no knock raids, gun grabbers, and cops following orders or even agreeing with the anti-gun agenda. Also how they get treated like first-class citizens and get military grade chit just for being an LEO (police get LAV’s, special treatment for firearms illegal to citizens, and body armor from retailers not available to citizens). Many of them don’t even mind, and won’t stand up for the 2A of us “second class” citizens.

For legal reasons this is a joke.

How old were you? As a bicyclist you are supposed to obey all the same traffic laws as a normal vehicle, and ignoring vehicles on the road and just going into the road because you are on a bike does make you the idiot in that situation. You are lucky the car stopped, you werent a pedestrian so you did not have the right of way.

As a police officer I can also say speeding tickets are not a primary source of revenue lol thats just completely made up conspiracy theory BS. The primary revenue is tax dollars and funding which goes into a city's budgeting which that budget allows for police officer's salaries and new equipment/vehicles. Go learn how traffic citation revenue works and where that money goes before making ignorant accusations.

I honestly dont care about defending cops because a lot are *******s but your arguments are just wrong.

To the people who hate the police, why not move to a different country that doesn’t have the same police presence? It must be safer, with less police brutality, less crime, less traffic accidents etc.

You realize that as frustrating as it is getting something like a speeding ticket, the mere police presence and having traffic enforcement officers on the road is what reduces traffic collisions and fatalities? Do you really think that if police officers weren’t allowed to write speeding tickets, the roads would be a safe place to drive, and nobody would drive recklessly without repercussion?

In reference the people who use knives/guns and the like to assault police officers and get killed as a result, do you not think they would use these weapons to commit crimes against people who aren’t able to defend themselves, especially if the police didn’t exist?

A lot of you people need to realize that the reason you’re able to leave your house and have a reasonable expectation of safety is because we have police. People in third world countries that don’t have the same structures, police, armed forces, etc. don’t have that right. It’s being taken for granted.

Yes, with tens of thousands of calls per day there are incidents that happen. Yes, police can be at fault and somebody can get killed as a result. There’s not one single law enforcement/police officer I know, in my agency or otherwise, that goes to work in hopes of ending another persons life or ruining it.

Imagine living your life knowing that people want you dead because of yourself profession. Imagine having to worry about eating at a restaurant because somebody may recognize you. Imagine going to a call that involves having to give life saving first aid, maybe finding a dead body, etc. and then later on you’re being shot at by someone that hates you just because of who you are and what you represent. It’s disheartening and a thankless job.

My issue is that very few cops have the fortitude to rip into the bad cops while it still matters. "Audit the Audit" youtube channel is a good example of what I mean. Most stops aren't confrontational like those, but you learn a lot about a person by how they react when they are confronted with something they aren't allowed to do.

I know the proper laws of the road now, but at the time I was just a teen, barely in high school. I was using the crosswalk like a pedestrian (press button and wait for white man), so although I was in the wrong, the car was more in the wrong. They didn’t stop either, they went in front of me by inches either not seeing me or thinking they could beat me. I was also a late bloomer and pretty malnourished too (recession diet lul), so at the time I was around 5 ft and 80 lbs, so I definitely didn’t look like a high school kid, and I definitely wasn’t going fast.

And I never said tickets were primary revenue, but they are pretty significant. The whole system is setup to make it easier to pay the ticket than to fight it.

I don't like "police" as an entity itself, I think that as it is right now it dehumanizes civilians and treats us as cattle that need to be lead. If you've ever had an encounter with a police officer you can tell they don't even see you as a human being. I think law enforcement is necessary, but currently we're not doing it right.

Cops see themselves as a different species than us.

Individual cops aren't the problem, they're just people like us - any of us could become cops. It's the system as a whole that does a bad job of keeping them in check, all they're doing is expressing the same human nature any of us would in a position of power.

It is very easy to fight a ticket in a small or mid size town, you literally go in a room a little bigger than an office and tell the judge why you shouldnt have got the ticket, the judges work for voters so if it makes sense, they will forgive a ticket. Sometimes they will even forgive a ticket if it is a decent citizen with no record who made a mistake that was within reasonable parameters.

And yes you were crossing it like a pedestrian but you werent a pedestrian, being a bicycle is NOT being a pedestrian. How was the car in the wrong? did they run a red light? If they had a green light, and turned left, then they were not in the wrong. You were in a lane of traffic a vehicle with a green light was reasonable to assume there would be no vehicles and they saw no pedestrians. I don't think that cop was exercising his power other than to prevent you from getting hurt and learning how important it is to know what you are doing to safely operate a bicycle when you take it on city streets.

Most bicycle deaths are caused by bicyclists not understanding they must follow the rules of the road like vehicles. They treat it like they are a pedestrian and end up getting hit, and then people get pissed at the car driver for not being more cautious but it really isnt their fault.

Holy room temperature IQ... from your rant about LE having weapons and gear not available to civilians to this.

Perhaps move to Venezuela or something, see how that goes for you.

I guess it's hard to fight a ticket when you're some cry baby lazy fat fuk like you.

But I've fought many and won... my dad just beat a red light ticket in Chicago a few weeks ago. If you are right, it isn't hard.

"Good people don't have bad experiences with the Police" as the saying goes. It's not always true, though.

I have trust issues with them from when I was younger, but also don't like degenerate trash criminals and am also thankful we have a Police force to deal with them.
