    Decisions, Decisions.......

I'm having trouble deciding what to get to drink over the weekend.

I can't decide between Markers Mark 46 and Woodridge Reserve Double Oaked ?

The WR Double Oaked is temtping, but I'm having a tough time dropping $60+ for such a small looking bottle.

I think may just go with MM46 and conserve it, then get the good stuff.

7Seconds, you never answered me about CR vs Gent Jack, which is better? or are they both chit? CR left nice hints on the palate and I never got such as a headache from it. Gent Jack gave me a headache 50% of the time.

I can tell what I think is better, but I want to know what the experts say?

Other than that, I have no experience with this type of drinking.

I suggest a Shirley Temple or something they serve to the old ladies in the nursing homes. Anything stronger and you will be posting Black and White videos of wrestlers from days gone by. Not that there is anything wrong with that.

I saw a post you only drank beer, here is a beer I'd recommend for you (not that anything is wrong with that).

ha ha... I haven't had a beer in years and even then I didn't experiment much with different brands and would have to graciously decline the offer. I did like something I could drink all day. If fishing and drinking beer were an Olympic sport I would have been a Gold Medal contender.

A pretty damn good woman's drink is winter/Christmas Martinis, just one on the strong side for me, they are a bit sugary and will cause a headache.

    Staying on target:
    7Seconds, Gent Jack vs CR?

    Woodford DO by a mile.

The WR Double Oaked is temtping, but I'm having a tough time dropping $60+ for such a small looking bottle.

I think may just go with MM46 and conserve it, then get the good stuff.

You could try Old forester 1910 or Knob Creek 15-year single barrels, similar to WDO and usually around the same price but you might find it cheaper.

Or check out Elijah Craig. The Small Batch, Barrel Select and Barrel Proof range from $30ish to $60ish. The Small Batch is also available in 375s for <$20 if you just want to try it.

Buffalo Trace, Elijah Craig, WT101, Knob Creek 100, 1792, Four Roses Small Batch, Russell’s Reserve 10 and Old Forester Signature 100. All around $30 or less.

7Seconds, you never answered me about CR vs Gent Jack, which is better? or are they both chit? CR left nice hints on the palate and I never got such as a headache from it. Gent Jack gave me a headache 50% of the time.
Not much of a fan of either to be honest. Lot 40 and Monkey Shoulder are two choices you could try that are both cheaper than Crown Royal and anything mentioned above is better than Gentleman Jack in my opinion.

Thanks, Knob Creek and Elijah Craig were of interest for me too, good to hear they are similar to WDO. Looking FWD to getting something soon. Getting thirsty!

Just buy a bottle of Jim Beam white label
Firstly the Beams came over and settled in Maryland before moving on to Kentucky, so I think that's kind of local heritage for you (you are in MD?)
    Secondly it's cheap and reliable

It might never be your very favourite of favourites but I'd be surprised if you don't think it's easily more than adequate as a standard drink. Surely it's at least as good as Gentleman Jack maybe better depending on opinion - but cheaper. You can save your cash and drink JB White while you make up your mind on something else - maybe Knob Creek single barrel like 7Seconds said , I hear you're looking at roughly 50 bucks a bottle???, expensive but cheaper than Woodford Reserve Double Oak and you're getting a lot more. Got to admit I'm biased against the double oaked Bourbons though, as mentioned I don't like acetone notes and you start to get them in many like that (I drank a bottle of JB Double Oak at Christmas but regretted buying it).

FK it !!! I'm going for a brisk walk (long walks are part of my achilles rehab) and I'm buying a JB White on my way home as the cupboard is bare. I'm mainly a beer drinker but I like some whiskeys and whiskys also.
Faith in Jesus first and faith in squats second.
Then other details will start to slot themselves into place.

I would prefer EW Black, OGD, or WT 101 over JB white but all are excellent choices for under $20. I usually have a pretty wide variety of whiskey on hand but I always have a 1.75 of WT101. And OGD is my go to when the wifey wants an Old-Fashioned.

Oh well, it was already: fait accompli, when I read your advice above, hopefully LWW hasn't made his purchase already and can gain from your advice.

Just as long as he doesn't chug the lot in one go and then post about that ****** 1984 McDonald's window incident... AGAIN

Evan Williams. It’s a great mixer, and I mean that in a good way. I don’t often drink it neat, but it tastes good with coke or in many bourbon-based cocktails. I think it makes a good Old-Fashioned. It's also excellent for spiking hot cider in the winter, and great in sweet or sour cocktails like a Julep, Whiskey Smash, or Whiskey Sour.

Is that what you meant by wifey and "Old Fashion" a mixed drink? I've had enough apple cider mixed drinks with Bullet Bourbon, good stuff but not really my thing for my drink alone time, unless it's a social type gathering.

Wifey= wife, it was a typo. And yes, Old-fashioned is a cocktail that she enjoys on occasion. As i said I normally prefer drinking bourbon neat or with a splash of water.

Nope, I have almost 3/4 of the bottle left and am already looking FWD to next weekend. The difference between Elijah Craig and Gent Jack (and I'm even guessing OGD) is that in contrast to those two the good stuff was full-bodied and oaky, I felt satisfied and I didn't need to keep drinking it.

EC small batch, what a great buy to begin with, I don't even think I'm even interested in the really, really good stuff yet?

Going to get MM 46 and Knob Creek first!
