They're both cheaper and lower-risk than developing a new AAA.

The real problem isn't that studios are lazy, it's that AAAs are $100M propositions these days. You can't afford to make a new property like Anthem and have it spit the bit.

Looking it up, Anthem cost $100M development + $50M marketing and made about $100M back. Massive loss there. And the bulk of the money it DID make was on microtransactions.

EA also made Apex Legends, as a FTP microtransaction delivery vehicle. It's also made about $100M as well, but on a lot smaller budget (could not find the exact development costs) and $0 marketing.

The money's in microtransactions, not $60 one-time buys. Make the cheapest game you can, get people hooked on the loot crates, and leave the massive AAA gambles to Rockstar.

Are people really biching about creativity and ingenuity where we're getting remakes/remasters of Legendary games like FF7? Lol, Remake Halo 1-3, all the 3d mario games, Devil May Cry games, Metal Gear Solid games, Elder scroll games 1-3(especially Morrowind the GOAT game), any popular game remake it. Make sure you creativity seekers dont go out and buy these games. In fact, go to an art gallery instead, get your fill of creativity there. Phaggots

    because of two things:

    1. the skill of the individual developer
    2. how much power this individual has

If you give the right person the right tools, great things will happen.

They not only added the new expansion with all new missions, but they also remade any and all b-list campaigns from the forgotten campaigns and theres tons of new remakes and reworks with like 2 whole new expansions worth of new stuff including redone voice overs and cleaned up everything for every single mission ever.. Pretty much brand new content everywhere and worth re-playing it all in 4K glory.

This is like a re-envisioning of the whole thing to modern standards while being true to original.

Also 4K wasn't really popular yet when HD came out and it was basically a port with higher resolution for 1080p.

This is actually the best remake of all time.

DE has more updates and changes than most full blown sequels. AoE2 is a damn near perfect game and tons of people still play it freaking 20 years later. Name one other game that has had that kind of staying power. The vast majority of players just wanted a more modern updated version.

Yeah I just feel like they could have made all of those changes with a super-patch or simply given away the definitive edition for free to people who bought the HD version. The way they charged HD buyers full price felt like a total ripoff, not that I don't like the improvements I just don't like the way they sold the game.

Starcraft, Counter Strike, Quake, and Unreal 2004 comes to mind, but outside of that yeah, it's one of those rare games that has aged exceptionally well. I enjoy it myself.

Rather the consumers don't like risk, most 30yo+ gamers would rather buy remake of something they played when they were 12 or the next call of duty than try a game with a new concept.

Because remasters and remakes done right, allow people to play a game that they couldnt and get to experience the best version of that game.
