Probably the same CEOs that thought just in time inventory was a great idea.

I'd use the same excuse as a CEO. You can blame just about any problem or price on "supply chain issues" without even getting specific. Unfortunately, part of my job is to solve supply chain issues. And we still pay the same price as before because of contracts.

I'm gonna have a giggle when I run into a problem I can't solve and just say "eh, supply chain issues!"

Whatever floats your boat. I ran logistics and distribution for a Fortune 100 company. I fully understand how sensitive disruptions in the system can be and that wasn't even during a global shut down. Im done w/ the topic.

Playing some SPY call options dated 12/13 after late yesterdays manipulation sudden drop. Only play I'm making this week but still think the bulls run into end of Dec. People need to make their year end bonuses Come Jan/Feb we could see a 10-15% market correction - or not since JPOWs printer isn't going anywhere anytime soon. Be careful out there.

True. It's new, but already just about global. It doesn't help inflation.

A bit of a "dump" there in the crypto markets, but here for the long term so I can't care too much. Watching a lot of the main characters on youtube if they have a channel... but got lead onto this podcast page through Michael Saylor's twitter. Could be some good ones if interested - saw Michael Saylor is on 2 of the last 3 so will start listening to those tonight.

Project I invested in 18 months ago (was delayed/redesigned etc, etc..) finally just launched - getting 20% unlocked in a few minutes...feels good. No intention to do anything right now but still nice to follow how the first few hrs go. First time for me having to use binance smart chain though and was a bit of a pain just to get some BNB bep 20 for fuel, in case something crazy happens so can act on it. Besides our group there were som VC's coming in later as well, which is good. Some Russian guy that is into crypto projects, but also some kind of celeb over there with 2 million youtube followers and supposedly know Putins' wife, lol.

How has your local fast food restaurants been doing lately? I traveled lately, and in several communities the dining rooms were closed simply because they didn't have enough workers. I experienced the same thing today at a local Burger King. My thinking is less workers, lower sales, and therefore, lower earnings. Shorting those stocks might be a profitable play.

Note: I checked the performance of McDonalds, Wendys, and Burger King before posting this, and of the three, McDonalds has done very well over the last year while the other two haven't. PERHAPS, some of the better staffed chains might excel when consumers previously loyal to one of the more poorly staffed chains change their loyalty.

    Just brainstorming here

There seems to be a line at most places I go. If you go to Cane's there's a line wrapped around the building a few times into the street most nights. During the weekend, you can always expect a line just about anywhere. I feel like it wasn't always this busy around here for food. Maybe people are cooking less? They're definitely getting fatter. We have a ton of restaurants too. Supposedly we're high on restaurant per capita. I'm not sure if there's any staffing issues like there used to be either. We seem to be recovered.

You might be right but I've been in some lines that were only long BECAUSE of slow workers.

It's been like this for over a year since they opened. People must like their food so much, they keep coming back, regardless of the line.

I've been trading full time for a living since 2011, stared swing trading with stocks back in 2008. It is my sole profession. I trade options mainly, stocks in my self directed IRA.... Also run some groups and do some teaching.............. I actually have a kettlebell, some stretch bands and a medicine ball here in my office that I use throughout the day while I trade..... Probably not to many jobs that you can do that at

What do you guys think a good stock/bond/cash mix would be for a couple of 75 year olds. Assets are ~$300,000 in real estate and $240,000 in investments. Pension and social security cover their normal expenses but they draw from the retirement for big purchases (e.g., new vehicle, house modifications, etc.). Health is somewhat less than average and their goal is "to leave the money to the three kids."

My son and I visit with my FIL every two weeks to watch John Wayne movies (last night's: Red River . . . awesome!!!). My FIL surprised me by being very candid with his finances for the first time in the 37 years that I've known him. He made so much money in 2021 that he wanted me to check his math on his percent gain. When he told me that his big account went from $195K to $216K. I said that amount is definitely possible IF he had a somewhat large exposure to equities. He pulled out a statement and he's 55% stocks (well diversified with a mix of small, mid, large-cap and emerging markets) and 45% bonds. He said that his financial planner calls his investments "moderate."

I told him that some financial planners would claim that 55% exposure to stocks is too much and that some use the 100-AGE, in which case, he should be 25% stocks and 75% bonds.

I asked him a scenario: Would you feel worse if you stayed with this investment mix and lost a significant amount of money next year OR would you feel worse if you took a more defensive position and then learned that you missed out on making a signficant amount of money next year. It was rhetorical, and he didn't answer.

Based on the above, what do you think? Too heavily weighted in stocks or just about right?

    Payton -

I have no feedback as far as what the ideal combo is.

But I do want to say great job to your FIL and his wife. Really nice work creating their wealth.

This is my personal opinion, and opinion only. For a couple of 75-year-olds with their current holdings, the question in my head is:

There is a bubble in real estate and stocks. We all know this. What happens if they pop? I would feel bad for many people, especially the elderly, when the mother of all bubbles pop and they lose their wealth. We saw this happen in 2008. Another question, with all the QE to infinity, what happens if hyperinflation hits? Powell just admitted what we in this thread already knew all along, that the inflation they created is NOT transitory.

I don't have any recommendations because everybody is different. But I do hope they can enjoy the wealth they have worked hard to accumulate.

This really pisses me off even more at gubmint and banks. Because the story you just shared became somewhat 'personal' because when the market corrects, many people will suffer. And the baby boomers will suffer the most and they won't have time to recover their losses. We forget that those who suffer are Human Beings, like your FIL and his wife. My parents are in their 80s and I cannot even imagine the devastation that will be brought towards this demographic.

Let's hope I'm wrong. But in the year 2022, we will see another wave of inflation. Purchasing power of the dollar will diminish even more. So your FIL's $240K won't buy as much. And that breaks my heart to be honest.

But on the bright side, they worked very hard to accumulate that wealth. That's what America is all about. We should all be reminded of this. So thanks for sharing.

Norwich Grad... how you feel about the idea of four year cycles in crypto are the thing of the past? Now there is so much money in the market, especially with big institutions, that what we've seen transpire in 2021 is the new norm. As in we've experienced two bull runs and now in a second bear market this year?

It's just such a different market now. And the fact that we didn't experience that whole parabolic run people expected us to like 2017 and 2013 might make people think twice about what a bull and bear is in crypto. This isn't like the past where retail drove huge spikes and falls... basically lambo moonbois pump and dumping during halvings. I've definitely rethunk my profit taking strategies going forward.

Agree 100% with your take on this. And, I mean...this is a new phenomena and many different markets in one in a sense and trying to predict such an ever developing and growing thing in terms of previous cycles doesn't make much sense to me.

Anyways, may try to pay off 2 debts this month.... working towards complete independance and the lowest mothly cost I can.

Yes. I agree with this also.

Wealth that can be accumulated through traditional methods (ie stocks and bonds) that would normally take 20 years can "only" take 5 years in space.

We all know inflation bad. And we all know deflation also bad.

But nobody really talks about liquidity or the velocity of money. The space will give us the opportunity. The current SWIFT system with Nostro Vostro account worth $27 trillion is slow and expensive. The banks will release this via CBDC. It's a foregone conclusion. They will kill the dollar and the current system and introduce digital currency.

Having said all this, the crypto TAs still seem to follow Elliott Waves and Fibonacci retracement. So I am also bullish, until it's time to take profit.

I know one thing for sure. The criminals in suit hate retail investors. 'They' don't want us to be in their casino.

Speaking of 2013 and 2017 parabolic, I am convinced the alt coins have not hit ATHs yet. So in the meantime I continue to DCA.

I've been doing the same. Sold my F150 back to Ford (was a lease) and picked up a 2010 Honda in Feb before the market for used exploded. No credit debt and have enough cash on hand to pay down our house but am too nervous to deplete my account for it. But to be financially independent is the dream.

Aye, can't go wrong with that thinking, I hope. Painful to take the initial hit but think it's definately worth it. Hope you make it all that way - would like to think we all in here strive for that. I would also like to think that freeing up/paying that credit also opens one up to possibilities as can use it again if comes to an emergency or a greater than life opportunity one didn't see coming. Almost like having that cash position I still haven't been able to build.

    Just brainstorming here
Mostly passive now on the investing side, balanced ETFs and such.

    However

MCD is our last stock we still own. I am up 250% or so on it since 2009. It also has a nice dividend, I will grab more if the price comes to earth again.

I am a big fan of quick serve segment, people are always on the run and need a quick meal, whether the economy is bad or good. I think people are generally going to get lazier or busier, or both.

In Japan quick serve is even starting to automate because they cannot find workers for the level of money.

    Just my $0.02
