He was so fast off the floor with that. I follow him and Hall on IG. Eddie posted yesterday that “it’s on”. I guess Eddie is going to try to chase him to regain the title. I don’t think he has it in him though. Bjornsson’s lift looked comparatively effortless compared to when Eddie pulled 500.

Should be fun to watch though.

    Damn impressive lift!

I'm in awe of this, however you cut it, lbs or Kgs, it's absolutely HOOOOOGE load of weight.

The fact it was only 1kg more and the friction caused by the different conditions will throw some extra gas onto the flames of the bad feeling between the two of them. This is good for competition, it might drive Eddie to beat it again?

Agree with shaneinga.. Hafthor looks the stronger of the two. Guess we'll find out!

I'd be interested to know Thor's preparation and aftermath of his lift. Hall's prep was pretty interesting, even going into some dark psychology to fire himself up to use more muscle fibers in the fight or flight state. (He said he pictured one of the referees as a demon about to do something terrible to him.) He also thought he was going to die in the hallway backstage afterwards. Wonder what Thor's experience was?

Thor definitely looked stronger, had a much smoother lockout and a stronger exit

I know this is an older post, but in regards to the bold, it's no secret that the event Eddie pulled 500 was tailored specifically to him making that lift. He picked the rest periods. He picked the weight jumps. Also I've not confirmed this but more people than not have said that the platform and bar used in the competition were his own personal setup.

Another aspect a lot of people missed is that Thor is the type of lifter that absolutely thrives off the energy off the crowd. Not having that was if anything a disadvantage for him. I would be willing to bet if he had the hype of a huge crowd going he would have gone back for one more bigger pull.

Its the best deadlift any way you can get it for sure.
Right above^^^ there are not really any rules so more of a strongman type DL but still very impressive.
    DL suit,straps,wide belt and barefoot,6'7" 450pounds.
Benedict Magnuson holds the best raw DL, belt only, DL which in most PL orgs is considered raw.
Over 1000 lbs no straps,he's much lighter and he holds the weight up for a few seconds.

That guy is a mountain. Looked like a good lift to me, solid lockout. I tried comparing Wilks scores between his lift and mine and he's basically twice as strong.

Another aspect a lot of people missed is that Thor is the type of lifter that absolutely thrives off the energy off the crowd. Not having that was if anything a disadvantage for him. I would be willing to bet if he had the hype of a huge crowd going he would have gone back for one more bigger pull.
I didn't know it was so favourable to Eddie, that really makes his complaints about the difference sound even more like him grumbling sour grapes over having his record bettered. Eddie comes across as a nice guy otherwise, but all his deadlift grumbling is starting to make him look bad
Faith in Jesus first and faith in squats second.

The bad blood stems from Hafthor being such a sore looser as WSM. Up until recently, I had thought there could be validity to his claims given all the hype around it.

I saw this recently and have lost a ton of respect for him as a competitor. I am sure he has seen the footage, and he knows he was beater squarely. He ought to just man up and admit it and not try to cherry pic an attempt on his own terms by 1kg.

I watched the full video and hard to not come away losing respect for the big guy as a sour competitor.

Bad blood between the two aside, I think Eddie has a legit gripe based on the following:

    1) Hafthor did the lift out of his home gym. No judges.

    2) The weights were not calibrated by a competition committee first.

    3) Hafthor elected to break the record by 1 kg, which is fine BUT recall when Eddie broke it last time--it was by like an additional 37 kg or something.

If you are going to do something to get yourself more fame and notoriety---do it right IMO.

This is actually a pretty big deal, particularly at that level. Do we know that 501kg in plate count was actually 501kg in actual weight?

We do not. And any experienced lifter knows how much plate weights can actually vary. Hell, the first 300 pounds of weight I ever bought--the 2 45's were actually a 5 pound difference in weight when placed on a scale. It was actually enough to initially make my physique non-symmetrical when I first started lifting and building muscle (one pectoral was noticeably bigger than the other when I was ~16-17 years old because of always using the heavier 45 on the same side of the barbell).

When Eddie Hall broke the record, all the plates and the barbell were calibrated by a competition committee beforehand. This was Eddie's main gripe leading up to the Hafthor lift--before all the ugly personal stuff that came out.

Wow, that's a big difference. My 45's are all between .2 and .4 lbs of the proper weight, which I think is excellent for cheap iron. But even that would add up fairly significantly when you're stacking 24 of them together. (I realize that not all the plates are 45s)

Bennie is still the best IMO. Literally just walked up to it and picked it up, smiled held it at the top for about 5 secs, slowly reversed it to the floor in good form.

Aww heck it's all mental for those guys, have you ever started squatt'in with 55# plates (25kg) and forgot they were 25kg, meaning you thought they were actually 45's by the time you hit was "supposed" to be you're top set, and said HOLY $HIT!!!

Wow, I watched those "double dipping" vids, I don't even know what to say, that $hit nutz, can't even comprehend that even phucking matters, oh well, $hit the "press" should never been dropped anyway.

Collin got the beer belly now, I remember when he was a skinny little guy, and holy $hit look at MVM. That dude almost died of a stroke back in like the 90's. PHUCK. I haven't watch any of these contests since early 2000's. Dougy Edmunds was the one called stuff, he stuck it to that real fat guy, from GB, I mean really fat, like a bear fat, he was about to make it to the finals and he pressed his last log and held it for like 15 seconds and Dougy would not give him a lockout, cost him the final.

Don't listen to me, it's Memorial day weekend already!!!
