NFL Insider: Not surprised if Cowboys part ways with Jaylon Smith - Steven Mullenax, The Landry Hat
Jaylon Smith was once one of the NFL’s most feel-good stories, but his play the past two seasons hasn’t made anyone feel good. The chatter that Albert Breer reported on Tuesday indicates that Smith may be in his last year in Dallas if things don’t turn up soon.

Here’s what Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated wrote on Monday about what he’s hearing concerning Dallas possibly moving on from Jaylon Smith soon. (Correction – Original credit was given to Conor Orr rather than Albert Breer for the below quote)

“A well-established fact within the walls of the Cowboys’ facility: LB Jaylon Smith hasn’t played up to his contract over the last year and a half. In fact, I know people there have been alarmed how often he’s at the heart of big plays made against the Dallas defense. I believe he’s got a pretty important couple months ahead, and it wouldn’t shock me if he’s gone after the year, regardless of who’s running the defense.”

With the trade deadline nearing, it seems unlikely that any NFL team would choose to tackle Smith’s back-loaded contract. It’s a deal scheduled to pay him well north of $40 million in base salary over its final four years, ending in 2025 according to spotrac.com.

I don't see a reason why they'd do this. Dallas is not going to be competitive this year no matter who's under center. Even if they won the NFC East, they are pond scum next to the top teams in the rest of the NFC.

Just call this season a loss, let the coaching staff see if they can figure out how to do their job, and enjoy the high draft pick.

The Cam rumors are just dumb...unless we could trade a 7th for him, dump Dalton and be off the hook for his $$, and have Cam play backup to Big Dick Ben DiNucci.

It's time to see who you have on the team...I'd sit LVE and Jaylon and let Thomas, Gifford, Bernard have a go...rotate some guy on the DLine etc.

Also I know we all get a stiffy over Jourdan Lewis...but the guy has been ass so far (granted so has everyone else)...seems like any penalty in the secondary is on #26.

Diggs has been getting toasted too, but he gets benefit of the doubt due to being a rookie with minimal offseason/preseason and adjust to the one of the hardest positions in the game.

Lewis has always been legit, so I'm surprised at this years performances, but then again everyone sucks like you said.

Qb - Big question mark here imo...If Dak returns it'll be quite the cap issue, so, unless we kill it in the '21 draft, it could be difficult to fill some holes...If Dak doesn't return then I'm not sure what the play will be ie Draft/Trade/Free Agent

Cb - Very skeptical here...ton of factors for the underperformances this year (rookie/new scheme/no full camp/time on field/lack of rush), but at what point do we call it lack of talent?

OL - Possible they still could field a top 10 OL in '21 once everyone is healthy, but our LT isn't getting younger...might be time to address it...perhaps Smith could move to Guard? Wouldn't be as taxing on him I'd imagine.

OC - I see this changing in the offseason srs...if Big Mike still the coach ( I'm sure he will be) I see him taking play calling duties and hiring a fill in.

Not going off Jones boys at all here....there's potential the cap drops next year and also potential more than half the team is, in fact, total ass...so if they want to hop back in to the contender category there's definitely going to be some moves that need to be made.

They definitely could make it work, though
