Drinking RTDs by themselves for mps

We're talking nothing but water, protein (whey isolate), and some chemicals that didn't make it to the front of the label (they look like enzymatic stuff maybe).

So if one finds themselves going over 3 hours of their last meal and they have only a water/protein drink to consume, is it ever worth it to take the RTD to get more protein dispersed throughout the day?

You're making things far to complicated.

    1) Nutrient timing isn't relevant to the vast majority of people. Meet your macro daily whenever convenient before you go to bed each night and you'll be fine. You certainly don't need to waste money on RTDs to take around with you to meet some broscience gap.
    2) You could use anything protein source you like to meet your macro.

I bought them to have more protein overall, not for timing. So, the same question would be whether I wait to take it with regular food. I'd presume yes, but is it much worse to not take them with the food.

Personally I'm wondering if they're bad to take on their own. If it's the general rule of food >> supplements with uncertainty as to whether it's beneficial or neutral to take them on their own, then I can live with that.

You can take them on their own as a meal replacement. The issue is usually they aren't filling.

Have your RTD whenever, with or without your meals. You are overthinking it.

They are all food. Liquid food is still food. Does it meet your macros, then it's beneficial. Does it not help you meet your macros, then it's a waste of time and $$.

As I've said, you're making this far more complicated than it needs to be.

I know I said 3 hours, and the answers have indeed satisfied my curiosity.

It's good information too. Like if I've inadvertently gone 6 or so hours without eating and all I have around is the RTD and a dormant appetite then I will think less about if it ingests proficiently nor will I worry about going to the store in the immediate moment.

Very much thanks for the inputs and suggestions.

Are you suggesting that if you didn't eat for 6 hours and you're not hungry than you'd need to use an RTD? It's not going to make a difference if you drink the RTD, eat some food, or nothing at all as long as you're meeting your macros before bed each day.

The point is that there is not time frame, for the vast majority of people, to ingest anything. If it isn't convenient to eat, then don't eat. If you want to drink an RTD, then do so. It's not going to make a difference if you take in 30g of protein from an RTD or from any other source of protein if you've met your macros in totality before you go to sleep at night.

I used to drink RTD's but I figured they were just filled with emulsifiers and preservative things I didnt need. I just put some whey in a shaker bottle and brought a cold water with me and drank it on the way back home after workouts at the park, I work outdoing mostly body weight stuff.

I think you dont even need to drink a shake right after working out unless you aren't going to be able to eat protein for a while like if you go ta long drive from the gym to home or something.

I'm just confused as to why you think drinking 20g of protein (for example) is somehow different from chewing it up in whole food form.

When I first read this I thought you were asking why I don't just chew it up in powder form lol

The RTD's I down in about 3 seconds. It's not better as far as ingesting protein I know that, but 20-40 g is 20-40 g.

It's not unheard of me to have two large meat portions throughout the day that comes to like 100+ g, but I usually get around to cooking only one slab of meat a day at probably around 50-60. Otherwise if I cook like eggs or w/ever it's a waste of effort because they only got like 6 g each. I'll definitely boost breakfast for instance with one. Or yeah, I'll just down one without paying attention now.

Do you think its safe to drink a fast digesting protein drink after workout and then eat another meal when you get home? I heard eating or drinking too much protein is taxing on the kidney is thre truth to that?
