Should be obvious, but will spell it out for people:

The CDC has added a disclaimer that they don't believe fomite transmission is a major vector. They have not removed the same advice they've always posted about hand-washing and disinfection.

    https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019...nsmission.html

Seems obvious to me that they're trying to address the unreasonable fearmongering about contact transmission. I distinctly remember a couple of threads ago someone posting that "they" (apparently, health authorities) were now officially recommending hosing down your takeout food with Lysol. I said that sounded ridiculous and asked for a source, which was not forthcoming. Upon Googling it, it turned out a news story had just run interviewing an academic somewhere about how to safely handle takeout food. She had been asked about people who were doing this and whether or not it was a good idea, and she just said something to the effect that there was no evidence for that.

Somehow, that gets telephone gamed into "the government says you need to Lysol your food", then when the CDC tries to calm people down and tell them to stop being hysterical and refrain from picking their nose, start washing their hands and cleaning their houses like normal adults instead of Purelling their fruit and bleaching their car like crazy people, you've got people twisting that into them "changing their mind".

Revisionist history in motion folks lol

Also, yes, let's judge what we used to think-or-know based on what one random bbcom poster maybe said. BRB there will be fewer than 5k deaths in the US by December I guess that means nobody took this seriously and we learned our lesson the hard way? lol

Large multi-national analysis (n=96,032) finds decreased in-hospital survival rates and increased ventricular arrhythmias when using hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine with or without macrolide treatment for COVID-19

    https://www.thelancet.com/journals/l...180-6/fulltext

We were unable to confirm a benefit of hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine, when used alone or with a macrolide, on in-hospital outcomes for COVID-19. Each of these drug regimens was associated with decreased in-hospital survival and an increased frequency of ventricular arrhythmias when used for treatment of COVID-19.

In summary, this multinational, observational, real-world study of patients with COVID-19 requiring hospitalisation found that the use of a regimen containing hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine (with or without a macrolide) was associated with no evidence of benefit, but instead was associated with an increase in the risk of ventricular arrhythmias and a greater hazard for in-hospital death with COVID-19. These findings suggest that these drug regimens should not be used outside of clinical trials and urgent confirmation from randomised clinical trials is needed.

TL;DR; Hydroxychloroquine was associated with a 34% increase in death and a 137% increase in serious heart arrhythmias.

The death toll in Sweden is catastrophically high
Six doctors and scientists: If the FHM does not want to see this, the politicians must react

    https://www.aftonbladet.se/debatt/a/...astrofalt-hoga

...Sweden, on the other hand, has a curve that has flattened out, but remains at a high level day after day. This, one might surmise, because of Sweden's different anti-infection strategy.

Accordingly, the situation looks like this, according to the European Public Health Authority's figures ECDC: On May 19, Sweden had the most deaths in the world per million inhabitants, seen as an average per day during the past week...

Sweden's an interesting situation. They've been treading water for 6 weeks in their plateau of new cases, similar to the USA. Their deaths are falling though. Looking at their numbers-54 deaths today and trending down. 265 in serious/critical condition right now. Doesn't seem that bad.

    Virtue is its own reward.

Also, yes, let's judge what we used to think-or-know based on what one random bbcom poster maybe said. BRB there will be fewer than 5k deaths in the US by December I guess that means nobody took this seriously and we learned our lesson the hard way? lol
Talking about revisionist history? Aren't you the 'millions dead' doomer? Got to suck to start realizing that all that time and effort for fear mongering didn't turn the tide. Don't worry, nothing stopping you from hiding forever as the rest of the world tries to get back to normal.

I don't see how it's revisionist, TBH. I got involved in these threads in the first place because some people were just plain freaking out and spouting off utter craziness about stockpiling drinking water and chit like they thought Rick had just woken up in the hospital and found the room full of zombies.

They're only marginally more detached from reality than the heads-in-the-sand ostrich crowd who seem to think the economy would be completely fine if we just ignored this, but they do exist.

...Sweden, on the other hand, has a curve that has flattened out, but remains at a high level day after day. This, one might surmise, because of Sweden's different anti-infection strategy.

Accordingly, the situation looks like this, according to the European Public Health Authority's figures ECDC: On May 19, Sweden had the most deaths in the world per million inhabitants, seen as an average per day during the past week...

It's not a binary choice, and choices/decisions here in May, based on the current situation, knowledge, and experience, are necessarily different than they were 2 months ago.

Maybe I haven't posted this before, but, I do still believe what I said here. Tweak it a tiny bit for being 5-6 weeks later but basically the same thing

PS: I did not criticize Sweden. But, when people post that Sweden is the gold standard who is staying open and not having a problem, I do remind them that not only is Sweden's per capita covid infection/death significantly higher than comparable countries, their economy is also getting wrecked anyway

The longer we go with a super hardcore lockdown, it not only hurts more in the immediate, but also, the more prone we will be to open too much up at once when we do.

This isn't a binary thing and shouldn't be treated like an on or off button. And the nation varies greatly across it in tons of ways so there is no one size fits all. The BIGGEST denominator that should be making a decision is each individual state. Though really, counties (and big cities) should be doing their own thing, within (wide) margins set by the governors, based on non binding guidance that comes from the feds/cdc

And May 1 should be the latest date we consider for some of the country opening up some things. With precautions on distancing, gloves, hand sanitizing, face coverings if we want to go that route, but, there's too much shut down right now to keep going much longer across the board like this.

It was to flatten the curve. It's already been a month. Already, a full month behind us.

We don't need full capacity dine in restaurants yet. Or full capacity movie theaters. Or amusement parks. Or crowds of spectators at sportsball.

But we need to be able to go to Best Buy, to Home Depot, to Lowes, Walmart to buy coloring books (WTF that this is a thing that isn't allowed some places?!?!), etc...keep your distance, don't touch stuff you don't have to, wear PPE if you have it, etc

Sweden *is* the gold standard of common sense, and they're doing what it took the rest of the world 8 weeks or more to figure out.

Close places of mass transmission (stadium events, parades etc.)

Protect the most vulnerable the best you can

    Use best practices

    Carry on

Really, knowing then what we know now, would Sweden really do anything different?

Yes people are dying. It's a pandemic. And at least Sweden is trying to save their economy and way of life. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad if all the neighboring countries didn't have their heads up their asses.

What superior results has Sweden experienced? Their economy is doing what everybody elses is whilst simultaneously having several times higher death rates than their contemporaries. And so long as they keep doing this, there is a good chance their neighbors will open travel up between countries that aren't-Sweden which also won't do anything better for their economy

No. There's not even a viable physical mechanism for you to inhale the virus from your clothes. The virus binds to the droplets you exhale and then those droplets bind to the fabric. As it dries on the fabric, the virus gets broken down to undetectable levels in just a few hours. You'd have to be chewing on your shirt and even then there almost certainly wouldn't be enough to pose an infection risk. Whatever tiny droplets you inhaled when walking through the cloud would have been the worst of it.

    Yes ^

Also, going back quite awhile (the vast majority of 'this'), we had been (and still are) operating on the study that says it can live up to 1-3 days on surfaces, with cardboard being 24 hours and plastics/stainless steel I think it was, or something, up to 3 days. The 5 days thing is pretty much pure revisionist because that's all they've got.

And, exactly correct, the virus being able to live X days on a surface is not the same as it being "easily" transmitted that way.

Hell I think it's been two months since the carolina study that said you're unlikely to get it from to-go food containers.

It's truly amazing the way people pushing a certain agenda literally lie about everything
