Flu numbers are literally made up, and it's you flu bros bringing them up. If you want to say who cares, or talk about inaccurate numbers-the flu is your game. COVID has a robust if faulty testing system that flu simply does not have (except in pediatric cases). We are dealing with floods of imperfect and incomplete information which is easy to pick and choose based on what the agenda is-both sides. Being intellectually curious and checking the ego so that we're not married to a position but open to change based on new info would serve us all. One thing is for sure, we don't know the severity of this virus, and that's why I can't side with the "no big deal, fuk masks, fuk social distancing" crowd.
The discussion has nothing to do with what you just went off about.

The ifr rate of covid for those under 45 is extremely low.

It´s too early to tell, they still havent figured out ADE possibility. They haven´t checked for long term side effects, checked for different strains etc. The last oxford vaccine was a failure. And the antibodies I have heard about so far, start declining pretty fast, so you might have to take a vaccine shot every month.

    Short lived immunity, lol
    >our data point towards a relatively short-lived antibody response to COVID-19
    Some more ADE

    >There are also several potential practical implications to our findings. First, the patient population with the highest risk factors for severe outcomes from infection such as age and co-morbid conditions had the highest antibody titers as well as neutralization of the virus. This is also the case for those patients who had lethal disease. It is therefore possible that surviving COVID-19 may require non-antibody dependent factors or that producing too much antibody may even have deleterious effects. Potential antibody-dependent enhancement phenomenon by triggering Fc receptors on macro****es.

"Anyways I have a lingering cough for weeks afterwards. Gets better very, very slowly. Like it wasn't until the beginning of July that it was totally gone. But slowly I've noticed I've been mentally really foggy lately. Forgetting stuff constantly. Going to get something and not remembering what I was going to get on the way there. Sometimes typing out the wrong word when texting.

And lately it's been getting worse. I've either been constantly tired and sleeping all day and still being tired no matter how much I sleep, or just being tired and not being able to sleep at all, alternating for a few days. Currently in the no-sleep cycle. Starting to get headaches. Easily irritable. People at work are starting to notice.
What do I do? How much worse is this gonna get?"

More and more feeling the long term brain effect of covid. The symtoms are still there, and getting worse for some, months later....

"To be truly effective, COVID-19 vaccines “will either need to generate stronger and longer-lasting protection... or they may need to be given regularly,” said Stephen Griffin, a Leeds University associate professor of medicine. “And those things are not trivial.”

Who is ready to take a vaccine every month Organizations like the WHO and UN, are talking about "The new normal". The new normal includes wearing masks, social distancing and vaccines regulary. And of course lower brain funcion and other health problems caused by the virus. The virus can cross the BBB and kill neurons, infect the hypothalamus, frontal lobe etc. And remember to stay away from the aircondition in public places.

´There's no way a virus with clear rabies homology in both how it interacts with nAChR, how it suppresses the immune response, which parts of the brain if infects and a bunch of other things that points to this being spliced with a virus that could alter people's behavior in a crazy way, and even if it isn't spliced with it, the fact that it's infecting the hypothalamus surely wouldn't cause any behavior alterations, especially not reducing fear and impulse control and turning people sort of crazy, that's just schizo talk.´

    Sorta both.

A lot of evidence is now pointing to a suppressed Type 1 interferon response.

Essentially, in younger, healthier patients the infected cells can tell other cells to start making various anti-viral components. This slows down viral replication, and the subsequent immune response is more measured.

In older patients and patients with co-morbidities this cross-talk is weak or absent (not to mention SARS-CoV2 blunts this response to begin with) and viral replication goes on uncontrolled. This leads to an over-active immune response or cytokine storm which contributes to most of the damage.
The level of novelty of the coronavirus antigen also seems to play a role... but a malfunctioning innate immune response is definitely not helping.

    But then there is this:

As Trump Ignores Virus Crisis, Republicans Start to Break Ranks

President Trump’s failure to contain the coronavirus outbreak and his refusal to promote clear public-health guidelines have left many senior Republicans despairing that he will ever play a constructive role in addressing the crisis, with some concluding they must work around Mr. Trump and ignore or even contradict his pronouncements.

In recent days, some of the most prominent figures in the G.O.P. outside the White House have broken with Mr. Trump over issues like the value of wearing a mask in public and heeding the advice of health experts like Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, whom the president and other hard-right figures within the administration have subjected to caustic personal criticism.

They appear to be spurred by several overlapping forces, including deteriorating conditions in their own states, Mr. Trump’s seeming indifference to the problem and the approach of a presidential election in which Mr. Trump is badly lagging his Democratic challenger, Joseph R. Biden Jr., in the polls.
    https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/19/u...ronavirus.html

As Trump Slumps, Republican Donors Look to Save the Senate

In interviews, more than two dozen top Republican donors and strategists said that Mr. Trump’s political fate would be far more contingent on his own behavior and ability to navigate the Covid-19 crisis and the struggling economy than any additional infusion of fund-raising. Yet any efforts by donors to retrench to the Senate will be a delicate balance. Mr. Trump not only maintains an iron grip on the Republican base that every Republican senator on the ballot will need to mobilize but also a penchant to lash out at the first signs of disloyalty.

“As Republicans get more and more in tune, it’s hold the Senate at all costs,” said Dan K. Eberhart, an energy executive and a major Republican donor. “The House is gone. And the White House is looking increasingly like an uphill battle. This is not a good picture for us.”

"We currently have 85 babies under the age of one year in Nueces County that have all tested positive for Covid-19," said Annette Rodriguez, director of public health for Corpus Christi Nueces County on Friday.

Any details on what that entails exactly? Would the teacher basically do Zoom classes all day or something? Spring was a chit show and our kids basically just got paper packets sent home (understandable given how fast/unprecedented it all was back then), but with time to prepare, I would hope for some more structure and actual teaching in the fall.

From what I'm hearing, my district is leaning towards a hybrid schedule. 3 days one week, 2 days the next.

Different than spring. More synchronous sessions (were basically none of those here in spring), they'll be using Zoom, Google Meet, and/or Teams Meet as well as Google Classrooms, more resources provided on specific things for students and parents to do or use, more structure with like taking daily attendance, sticking to a school day schedule for contacting teachers, lesson plan ahead of time to prepare for the live sessions, etc...other stuff. We'll see

Gov recently mandated distance learning for 19/53 CA Counties. I happen to be in one of the 19. The outline for ours is:

    Distance learning standards for schools
Following a spring of uneven distance learning expectations for schools across California, the new state budget sets standards for fall instruction.
    Chart
    'Daily live interaction' required
Teachers will have to connect with their students each school day through online instruction and/or phone check-ups.
    Taking student attendance
Schools must take students' attendance and participation under distance learning, or risk losing state funding. Students who don't participate will factor into schools' chronic absenteeism figures.
    Minimum instruction
Students must receive a minimum amount of daily instruction that can be met by a combination of teacher instruction and "time value" of work assigned.
    - 3 hours per day for kindergartners.
    - 3 hours, 50 minutes for grades 1-3.
    - 4 hours for grades 4-12.
    Serving students in need
Schools have to provide the "accommodations necessary" to serve students with special needs.
No set requirements for live instruction
The state does not mandate a minimum daily amount of synchronous, or live, instruction, though experts strongly suggest it be a part of students' distance learning.
    Preventing disengagement
Schools must form a plan for re-engaging students who are absent from distance learning for more than three schooldays a week.
    Checking families' connectivity
Schools will have to ensure that students and families have the devices and connectivity necessary to participate in distance learning, or make accommodations if they do not.
    Weekly engagement records
An additional data requirement, schools must keep "weekly engagement records" noting how much synchronous or asynchronous instruction a student has received.
    Replacing accountability plans
Schools will team up with parents and teachers to create a "learning continuity and attendance plan" by Sept. 30, replacing schools' usual annual planning documents.

Pretty much. Because if you're running a hospital, why would you want a bunch of empty space? That costs money.

And in a normal flu year, ICU's get overwhelmed and they transfer patients between nearby hospitals.

A normal flu year doesn't happen in July, during social distancing, or while many are wearing masks.

But please feel free to conveniently leave out as much relevant information as you need to for your narrative

OC, CA was voting for in person instruction with no masks or distancing, passed, then got shut down by Newsom and reeled back to digital.

Pre-COVID: Limit youth time on electronics it's bad for them.
COVID: Yeah 4 hours of tablet instruction is good.

With decisions just being made on how to instruct entire cohorts of K-12 about a month away from opening, I'm sure this is going to be a chitshow like the last round was.

True. Seems to be getting spun for maximum shock value. Either way the fact of babies being infected could shift the public perception. Many people may not care about old/sick dying, and may feel fatalistic or bullet proof re: their own susceptibility. If they see their children as being at risk for any long term effects?

Or go big on PBS with a few hours of live daily content for young learners. Could do a K through 1st/2nd block and then another block for older kids that can read. Heard from a teacher that was the big shift, going from learning how to read/how to learn to actually using reading to learn.

Do you have kids that went through this? This statement is absolutely laughable. It was maximum 1 hour a day, if/when they showed up on time.

Are the original SARS chronic infections in some coming back with SARS2?

    1
    >Daniel, 28, caught SARS2 in March which left him coughing blood
However, extreme fatigue and tiredness still go off and on
He has daily brain fog, difficulty concentrating and problems with short-term memory that make reading, writing and speaking harder.
Today he's too sick to work full time
    2
    >After "recovery," a 30 yr old man joined the Long Covid Support Group where he and 6k others talk about still feeling sick after "recovering"
He wonders if his immune system is compromised
    3
    >Swank, 28, got sick around Christmas and tested + for SARS2 antibodies in April
A nonsmoker and gym goer, she now needs an inhaler to work out due to long lasting lung damage
She is afraid her immune system won't be able to handle another illness

    4
    >Jordan, 29, tested + for SARS2 twice
The 1st time was in April. SARS2 partially collapsed 1 of his lungs
He eventually got better and tested positive for antibodies, donating blood plasma thinking he was immune
Then in June, the suffocating returned. He was winded just folding laundry. He tested positive again
"I just sat there and shook my head. I didn't want to go through it all again. It was awful"

    5
