Their current unemployment rates are hard to find but it looks like they're still under 10% while America is around 15% currently.

Again, hard to find information but they're not doing the mega bailouts on taxpayer dime like Canada or USA is.

They're certainly looking like they're better prepared to come out of it than other places are. When you lose your job - sometimes that job just doesn't come back.

Farley doesn't have a job. When you already don't have a job you don't have to worry about losing it and/or if it ever comes back.

I have a job, and its fairly secure.

I still worry about mass unemployment. Everyone should. Its not a good thing, for the economy, or for society. People need things to do.

The longer we go with a super hardcore lockdown, it not only hurts more in the immediate, but also, the more prone we will be to open too much up at once when we do.

This isn't a binary thing and shouldn't be treated like an on or off button. And the nation varies greatly across it in tons of ways so there is no one size fits all. The BIGGEST denominator that should be making a decision is each individual state. Though really, counties (and big cities) should be doing their own thing, within (wide) margins set by the governors, based on non binding guidance that comes from the feds/cdc

And May 1 should be the latest date we consider for some of the country opening up some things. With precautions on distancing, gloves, hand sanitizing, face coverings if we want to go that route, but, there's too much shut down right now to keep going much longer across the board like this.

It was to flatten the curve. It's already been a month. Already, a full month behind us.

We don't need full capacity dine in restaurants yet. Or full capacity movie theaters. Or amusement parks. Or crowds of spectators at sportsball.

But we need to be able to go to Best Buy, to Home Depot, to Lowes, Walmart to buy coloring books (WTF that this is a thing that isn't allowed some places?!?!), etc...keep your distance, don't touch stuff you don't have to, wear PPE if you have it, etc

Well the economy is done for this 6 week lockdown will have a long lasting propagating effect.

Consumers were already distressed in January with abundant debt and there was already reports of mortgages delinquencys and last year there was a big report of late car payments

The next bubble was going to be about loan for small businesses
This lockdown just kicked everything into high gear

    Back in
October bank were leading each other in 40-60 billions in the overnight lending because they would be insolvent .

    I’m just enumerating small
Basic stuff and missed a whole lot of them .

The whole housing market will take a huge blow
    Foreclosures
    Lower immigration
All this will cause a crash

Any other economic brah can come in and had some more

We seen so far than the death rate is negligible and that the cure far outweighs the consequences

So you're suggesting we take a measured approach...like Sweden is....and deal with the inevitable deaths.

Stop trying to play both sides. We need to open up and manage this, exactly like sweden is.

I think some folks may disagree on the use of the word "negligible". Literally the leading cause of death in the country probably deserves some descriptive other than "negligible".

Of course, other folks will say the "lockdown" measures weren't needed because the deaths were lower because of the "lockdown". lol

But...how does telling us about stuff from last year, and from October, and from January, or even about the 6 weeks that started in March, answer a question about what "the plan" is now?

Prime Minister Stefan Lofven previously said Sweden is pursuing a “common sense” approach that will keep the country operating, while also protecting its most vulnerable.

“I feel confident in the overall strategy,” Lofven said last week. “One reason that we have chosen this strategy, and where we have supported the agencies, is that all measures have to be sustainable over time.”

READ MORE: What is herd immunity and what does it mean for COVID-19?

The country has banned gatherings of more than 50 people, closed high schools, colleges and universities, and has urged isolation for citizens over the age of 70 or for those with underlying medical conditions who may be vulnerable to COVID-19.

That means elementary schools, most restaurants and most businesses have remained open. The decision to do so has drawn criticism.

Their economy is fuked because they rely more on exports than we do here in the US. Everyone else's decisions have repercussions.

The economy is going to be fcked for a long time but that's for many reasons

For one you will never have an up economy with a pandemic on the loose so everybody can forget about it . We will have to wait until a viable vaccine is in play. Try to hold on to your job is the name of the game

You can "open UP" as much as you want to do

Until the people feel safe enough to go out the economy will never truly "open up"

Also people are quite comfy making more on unemployment than they are working a 9-5 job getting stressed the fuk out

For one here in texas a single person is making over 4k per month on unemployment alone.

That is 25 bux an hour to sit at home and watch tv. Waaayyyyy above min wage

For one here in texas a single person is making over 4k per month on unemployment alone.

That is 25 bux an hour to sit at home and watch tv. Waaayyyyy above min wage

Have you been outside? People feel just fine going out. Boomers waiting in line to buy a single plant at home depot. I don't buy the people are too afraid for the economy to open up argument.

But yeah, why work when you can make 4k a month doing nothing. I cannot argue with that. Sounds like a good deal.

Both have a point. People are def hitting home depot

I drive by the mall periodically and that sht is still fcked to hell. People are probably calculating risks.

Home depot is damn worth it since we spend more time at home. The mall..not so much

We were unable to confirm a benefit of hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine, when used alone or with a macrolide, on in-hospital outcomes for COVID-19. Each of these drug regimens was associated with decreased in-hospital survival and an increased frequency of ventricular arrhythmias when used for treatment of COVID-19.

In summary, this multinational, observational, real-world study of patients with COVID-19 requiring hospitalisation found that the use of a regimen containing hydroxychloroquine or chloroquine (with or without a macrolide) was associated with no evidence of benefit, but instead was associated with an increase in the risk of ventricular arrhythmias and a greater hazard for in-hospital death with COVID-19. These findings suggest that these drug regimens should not be used outside of clinical trials and urgent confirmation from randomised clinical trials is needed.

TL;DR; Hydroxychloroquine was associated with a 34% increase in death and a 137% increase in serious heart arrhythmias.
So it's been safe to use for malaria and other conditions for the last few decades, but suddenly it's bad now?

the study was for hospitalized patients, already in the thick of the virus
Hcq isn’t going to help after the virus has already built an empire in the body

Hcq has shown to stop the growth of the virus (in a lab)
Better as a preventative/ early treatment , best results so far although clinical are still underway

The full study with a sample size of almost 100,000 is right there for you to read and research.

It has an ass load of references listed as well.

    https://www.thelancet.com/journals/l...180-6/fulltext

And it's not like it's been emergen-c where you just pop it and off you go, it can have sides and using drugs for totally different diseases (malaria isn't even a virus) can, well, be different

Opening churches is indefensible. Putting people’s lives at risk for superstition is the last thing we need to do. It’s one thing to make an argument for businesses and the economy, but something else entirely for mass religious gatherings.

Should weld every single church door shut China-style until a vaccine is made. 100% Srs.
