Churches and other religious gatherings around the world have been linked to superspreader events, it really is dumbfounding to tell them to go full YOLO. Might as well pack stadiums and get the cruise ships out.

I'm worried since my family is in Peru. That country locked down everything early, and yet still has over 111k+ cases at a population of close to 32 million.

Freedom is scary! I don't know what these bastards are thinking that they should be free like that with such a scary icky virus running loose. It's better to live safely and securely in rope and chains like the commies than to have scary ass freedom where people catch viruses. Freedom is simply overrated. Fire up the FEMA camps for those who will not accept the New Normal™.

There's no stopping the spread by forced shutdowns of business. It will go around and we will catch it and either get over it or die. Life will go on regardless. In the meantime let's try to minimize the long-term damage being done by government in the midst of it.

Limited business shutdowns never had the possibility of stopping spread, only slowing it so that hospitals did not get overwhelmed with a massive and rapid spike of cases all at once. Now that we are well past that grossly over-forecasted doom scenario, arbitrary government-forced business shutdowns have no legitimate or rational purpose. All lawful businesses are essential to a country's well-being, and elitists with cushy jobs and who live in high castles should not be telling the rest of us that our jobs are not essential because they most certainly are. Maybe we should force them out of their jobs and turn them into beggars and see how they like it.

Singing right next to others for an extended period seems like a damn near perfect scenario for spreading this.

Difference between churches and stadiums, of course, is we do afford special privileges and protections for religion. But then some people consider sportsball to be their religion, so...lol

Georgia opened up April 27th, earlier than most and amid a plethora of criticism.

Now a few days short of one month later, hospitalizations are way down in Georgia since then.

That's great news. But aren't lots of shops still closed down and people, for the most part, still living as fearcels?

Weather continues to present itself as a strong factor

Also, there are still very few people doing any of the higher risk indoors stuff like church, restaurants, movies, mall, etc. Most people opt to take the low risk route anyway so it mostly works itself out

New COVID-19 hospitalizations in Georgia back on the rise

ATLANTA — One of the coronavirus statistics Gov. Brian Kemp has highlighted on numerous occasions as a sign things are improving in Georgia is active hospitalizations.

He tweeted on Tuesday when the number dipped below 1,000 to 986, a 34% drop since May 1. Again on Friday, his office sent out a release that the number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients in Georgia was at a new low, 887 - a 40% drop since the beginning of the month.

That overall falling trend is now, however, at odds with the rate of new patients being hospitalized.

Based on the state's nightly tally taken at 8 p.m. each night, in the eight days between May 14 and May 22 (we don't yet have complete data for today, May 23) the 7-day moving average rose from almost 59 to nearly 114 on Wednesday, before dipping back to 87 yesterday.

It's important to note things are still fairly well below where they were at a peak in the middle of last month:

But, as the graph shows, the consistent downward trend in new hospitalizations Georgia saw from the end of April until the middle of this month has been distinctly reversed, at least for now.

It's important not to oversell the trend - as the bars in the graphs also show, a single large day can have a noticeable effect on the 7-day average. Still, the 14-day average, which will soften a single day's influence, also shows a less pronounced rise

And, agani, we are "open", but, like, we just drove by chik fil a, dining area indoors and outdoors completely closed, drive through only, every employee with masks and gloves, using bins to set the food in and customer takes their order out of the bin without touching the bin and without an employee ever touching a customer, many people using touch free payment methods like scanning the CFA app on their phone or an NFC payment method, etc

And 114 hospitalizations for the disease in the whole state isn't a ton. But, just sayin', the hospitalizations have not really gone "way down". They may, in fact, have gone up, even though it's like 85* outside and people are distancing like crazy

    just sayin

Placentas from COVID-19-positive pregnant women show injury
Findings suggests abnormal blood flow between mothers, babies in utero

    https://news.northwestern.edu/storie...w-injury/&fj=1

The placentas from 16 women who tested positive for COVID-19 while pregnant showed evidence of injury, according to pathological exams completed directly following birth, reports a new Northwestern Medicine study.

The type of injury seen in the placentas shows abnormal blood flow between the mothers and their babies in utero, pointing to a new complication of COVID-19. The findings, though early, could help inform how pregnant women should be clinically monitored during the pandemic.

The study was published today (May 22) in the journal American Journal of Clinical Pathology. It is the largest study to examine the health of placentas in women who tested positive for COVID-19.

“Most of these babies were delivered full-term after otherwise normal pregnancies, so you wouldn’t expect to find anything wrong with the placentas, but this virus appears to be inducing some injury in the placenta,” said senior author Dr. Jeffrey Goldstein, assistant professor of pathology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and a Northwestern Medicine pathologist. “It doesn’t appear to be inducing negative outcomes in live-born infants, based on our limited data, but it does validate the idea that women with COVID should be monitored more closely.”

It's a legit concern, the full scope of what Covid-19 does and obviously right now we are hyper focused on it. To give context, before the pandemic there was an add that ran on my local radio station about a child who had lost all four limbs due to a severe case of the flu. Pretty fuked up. My point is not to compare Covid to the flu, but point out that any virus, even the one's we are used to can cause some pretty fuked up thing. To think that Covid was strictly a respiratory disease would have been naïve. The greatest evidence that Covid is not some airborne super aids is that if government scientist had made some discovery showing this, no way an outbreak would have occurred in the White House and the President would be completely isolated. Covid is bad, it does a lot of fuked up things, but its not airborne Ebola.

    False.

I posted current COVID-19 hospital patients, which is in fact -not- going up and has been on a steady decline since May 1st.

What is the current total number of COVID-19 hospitalizations in Georgia ... and is that UP or DOWN?

    May 2nd it was 1500 ... May 19th it was 986 ....

The most recent public report on that I could find was yesterday May 22, when there were 889 current hospitalizations (still going DOWN, from 986 on the 19th to 889 on the 22nd)

    https://www.11alive.com/article/news...0-98fc8a98ac65

The Georgia Emergency Management Agency began reporting current statewide hospitalizations on May 1. That day they reported 1,500 current hospitalizations. By the most recent report on May 22, there were 889 current hospitalizations.

Report: New COVID-19 hospitalizations in Georgia back on the rise

    https://www.11alive.com/article/news...a-db949df5eb5a

ATLANTA — One of the coronavirus statistics Gov. Brian Kemp has highlighted on numerous occasions as a sign things are improving in Georgia is active hospitalizations.

He tweeted on Tuesday when the number dipped below 1,000 to 986, a 34% drop since May 1. Again on Friday, his office sent out a release that the number of hospitalized COVID-19 patients in Georgia was at a new low, 887 - a 40% drop since the beginning of the month.

That overall falling trend is now, however, at odds with the rate of new patients being hospitalized.

State data from this month show that new hospitalizations are noticeably rising.

Looking at the 14 day moving average and it appears to have gone from 150 at opening to 100. 33% drop in a little less than three weeks, regardless how one describes the downward trend is a downward trend.

The whole article is actually pretty hopeful. Those measures at Chick Fil A and the fact that people are care show that people can and should be trusted. We're not all simpletons that are bumbling through life here. Unfortunately it takes a single super spreader even at a church or auditorium to take any progress away. I'm surprised Trump is risking his largely successful reopening by demanding churches open. It's even more ridiculous when all but 3 states are allowing religious services anyway without him interfering anyway lol. I suppose he wants to be known as a religious defender and receive credit, may come back to bite him however...

See the post just above yours.

Current total hospital patients is in fact still going down.

Yall are trying too hard and stumbling over your blatantly obvious agenda.

That's new admissions, not total current hospitalizations. ie discharges are still outpacing admissions.

Just two more weeks until we're all dead.

Went to Outback today. Guess they said fk the 25% capacity thing because the place was probably 75ish % full. Just about every restaurant around had pretty busy parking lots. Glad to see not everyone has been fear mongered into hiding at home forever.

Went to Outback today. Guess they said fk the 25% capacity thing because the place was probably 75ish % full. Just about every restaurant around had pretty busy parking lots. Glad to see not everyone has been fear mongered into hiding at home forever.
I was downtown in Annapolis, MD today....place was packed. Huge groups hanging out drinking since the city allowed restaurants to sell carry out cocktails. No social distancing and maybe half had masks. Look like an average summer night. People don't give a fuk anymore.

Glancing through probably 20ish tables while waiting to be seated, I only saw four tables of people wearing masks. Three were African American peeps. Overall I see a lot more African American people wearing masks here than white people.
