    Doing push ups every day

I think there was already on a thread on this, but i can't find it. Anyway my cousin does a chit load of push ups every day, and has been telling me to do the same. So i started, but i noticed it started hurting after a while. Not in my muscles, but maybe my joints? Anyway, is it harmful to do push ups daily?

Like any exercise, it depends on how much and your overall routine.

If you mean chit loads, every other day at least would be better and you should ease into higher volume gradually esp if you’re already feeling pain in your joints.

Make sure your form is good otherwise this can also cause sore shoulders and elbows.

There no harm in doing pushups daily but doing pushups without proper form can lead to an injury. If it's difficult to do the exercise then try modifying it.

The volume of pushups you do as well as how you do them can effect your joints.
Just like running you wouldn't just do a marathon right from the start.
And if you technique is off say elbow out from the body and you sag the body it can effect your joints.
Research good pushup technique and alter volume day to day if you want to stick with it.

It's always good to do push-ups. I decided to start doing push-ups again. I'm trying to do them every day as well.
There is no right or wrong way for that, just start doing.

For example: a nice way is to do 20 push-ups after you wake up. Then do the next 20 push-ups 1h later. and then the next 20 an hour later, etc.
Better than nothing Doing 20 push-ups doesn't take a long and it keeps you focused :P

Personally I am treating them like the bench press. I wouldn't bench press every day.

I'm attempting to do the pushups strict, activating my chest as much as possible and everything else as little as possible (difficult because unlike the bench press it recruits a lot of other muscles).

I do 4 sets flat, 4 sets with my feet up on a chair, and 4 sets with my upper body higher than my feet.

For the flat sets, I get someone to put bags of sand on my back. To go easier on your shoulders I think your body and arms should be like this:

    \|/

And not so much like this:

Is it bad that I'm giving at least a day for recovery?

    I do like 10-15 sets.

Give yourself time to rest and repair. Maybe do pushups every other day?

I've been doing over 100 pushups for a year. Most of the days i did around 250-300. Ofc i was going to the gym 4-5 times per week, demends on how sore i was. Things i noticed are that my chest is even bigger but chest is my most dominant body part tho and that i can do quite a lot of pushups now. I did my max pushups a week ago and did 49, when i started my max was 24. Im still doing them because i enjoy doing pushups but it depends on you. Im pretty sure i can say that i did some kind of ultimate nucleus overload for chest. I think im gonna start that next for arms because they are lacking but not so taxing, maybe for a month and see what happens.

I think there's a risk of ending up with shoulder pain if your delts become too dominant and start pulling your shoulders forward too much - I'd balance it with a pulling movement for shoulder health, something like inverted rows (like a bodyweight facepull) or pullups.
