With a lot of us stuck in the house, movies are a good time killer.
Since we all know about the big hits and classics, that isn't much good if you want something new. So stuff like The Invisible Man, Casino, Goodfellas, Titanic, T2, 1917 etc isnt worth suggesting.
I'm making this thread so people can suggest really good hidden gem type movies, from any decade, which never got much media attention.
I will start with this one. Take Shelter. This is about a guy who has a lot of visions about the end of the world basically. Very, very underrated movie and I suggest you watch it. Got some good actors in it too. Trailer:
For some reason this never got much interest which is weird since it is a decent movie. Even has MuRrrRrrRrf from Interstellar in it

This movie seems to have 2 titles.
North American and UK title: After The Dark
Rest Of The World Title: The Philosophers.
It's a movie about the classic thought experiment of; if a Nuclear War breaks out, and a bunker only has enough resources for a finite amount of people, who would you choose to live and die? A group of students on their final day of school, are given the thought experiment by their philosophy teacher.
Edit: I don't think the film is amazing. But I think it's a solid film, which is thought provoking.Last edited by BetaAsPhuck; 04-15-2020 at 08:46 AM. Reason: Got titles wrong

Upgrade for a decent low budget action movie, starring a budget version of tom hardy. Very much in style like black mirror.

These two original horror flicks, watch in this order.
Resolution : https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1977895/?ref_=rt_li_tt
The Endless: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt3986820/?ref_=rt_li_tt
Can't watch the endless without seeing resolution first.*Misc Cologne Crew*

Since we're in Coronavirus lockdown there's no time like the present to watch 'Contagion' which basically predicted the whole thing.

One of my favourite character based films. It has one of my favourite movie endings... As soon as the Tom Waits song starts playing...
Again, there is nothing 'exciting' in this film, it's purely character driven, and about friendships.

I actually really liked Snitch
Different from his usual blow-em up style, more low key and gritty. Basically the Rock's son gets caught accepting a shipment of drugs. The Rock is pissed, but thinks a night in jail will teach his kid a lesson. Turns out there's a zero tolerance policy and the kid must serve a minimum 10 year sentence. So the Rock tries to cut a deal with the DA and goes undercover to try to bring down the bigger fish. Also has the dude from the Punisher TV series in it."The dildo of consequences rarely arrives lubed."

Everyone posting movies that won best oscar, or has been in the top 10 movies on netflix needs to learn what 'hidden gem' means lol
'A night of horror" 2019
'Baskin' 2015
'Borderland' 2007
'hidden' 2015
'Last shift' 2014
'primer' 2004
Revenge 2017
The Void 2016
The mimic 2017
The triangle 2016
We summon the darkness 2020
creep 2014
the wailing 2016
Tumbbad 2018
aterrados 2017
The ritual
'Resolution' first, and then 'The endless' (Resolution is somewhat a prequel to The Endless)
Besides primer, all of the movies are basically horror. Some are foreign, but they are def worth the watch.
The wailing was one of my favouritesLast edited by bmxunknownn; 04-15-2020 at 03:46 PM.
