That's awesome that people are coming together to help you guys out. Good luck with the next offer. Hopefully they take it and you can close soon

Fark, I thought you were just temporarily homeless until whatever happened with the bat cave materialized. Didn't know it completely fell thru. Anywho, your real estate agent might be the most useful real estate agent that ever existed if they're letting you crash there.

It was in the mid 70s here all weekend which is much cooler than normal for this time of year. I have a couple ceder stumps with coaster sized limbs laying around so I decided to make a coaster set for a couple we know as a housewarming gift. My wife caught me with the saw and sander and started in on me about projects she wants to do. It's nice to have someone who believes in you but man... if I had half the skills she thinks I do I'd have quit my day job years ago to make furniture.

Is it that hard to understand that this

is much easier to make than something like this?

I'm doing Christmas ornaments on little wood cookies. They were a hit last year and I got a late start last year. Tried some fall themed ones last month and started the winter ones last week. Here's one of my fall designs.

I do want to learn how to resin pour though. My idea is to paint landscapes or whatever on like a cutting board type of plaque then pour a hard resin over it to seal it.

Wow man that looks really good. I'm gonna try my hand at pouring some resin within the next month. I'll be sure to let you know how hard/easy it is

I haven't tried a project like that, but I can guarantee that if I tried, it would be a total disaster. Sht would get everywhere.

So everything looks good for the new house. We are just closing conditions now. It’s very small. But whatever. I’m sick of fighting🤷🏼‍♀️

Yeah I'm not counting on it going smoothly. The first time I do anything it tends to be a nightmare. The good news is that I got some ceder stumps for free and I'm getting the chainsaw sharpened up today so I won't be ruining a $500 slab if I screw it up. My idea is to make something along the lines of this

except end table sized and squared off so I don't spend $300 on epoxy. Also gonna use plumbing pipe for legs because its just easier to deal with and sturdy. It'll probably end up being a hideous monstrosity but I'll post it here for lulz

Holy fk. I've got a few trees that need to come down in my yard, new roof just paid for itself. Hell, can have the tree service fees as a write-off. Imagine shipping a stump to a buyer and insuring it for 2k.

That's technically a piece of petrified wood, and a damn pretty one at that, but yeah its still not worth 2k.

I didn't even see it was petrified. My dreams just went up in smoke. Looks like you can only get about $250 for 12 inch wide and 18 inch tall ceder stumps. Good thing I didn't just go tell my boss kiss my ass

There's a million YT videos on epoxy pours you can watch. There is quite a bit that goes into them.

I just recently finished a little cover for my fire bowl that used an epoxy coating. I kind of screwed this one up on the seal coat. Used too much and didn't seal both sides. It now has spots where it bubbled up and it looks like all of the bubbles are over the top of stickers. I'm thinking, 1. seal coat both sides (light coat), and 2. use a lot less for the seal coat.

Sanded, painted, sanded, then let the kids throw on whatever sticker they wanted. Then, seal coat, then flood coat.
You don't have to be great to start, but you have to start to be great.

I played around with it a bit as well.

Best results are from perfectly flush surfaces. Look at setting up a little router sled to get a square surface, it makes a lot of problems go away.

See if you can set up similar jig or sled to control the level. Keeping things perfectly square is so tough on natural surfaces, and the epoxy level never lies.

That pic is right after it had cured for a bit. It doesn't look anywhere near as nice now with the bubbling and the top is starting to warp.

Going to build another one soon. Have some changes in mind to the process.

I'm a little confused here. My plan was to level and square everything with a form that is taped around similar to this

and then have my wood pieces down and fill the void with epoxy. I know I'll have to seal the wood before putting it in the form so are you talking about the first seal coat or the main form pour?

My thoughts were as long as my form is level then the epoxy will be level

I guess it depends on the effect you are going for.

In an application like this where you want epoxy pools or a river with exposed wood on each side the wood has to be very close to uniform height either side of the pools to look right.

If the wood on one shore is higher than the other you will never get an even table-top.

    Spoiler!

If the idea is to form in the top and have a complete epoxy surface with all wood flooded underneath, then your way works fine.

Edit: Full disclosure I am speaking with the experience of someone who did like 3 of them, not an expert by any means.

So what I'm gonna do is clamp the wood down and use the side that is face down in the form as the top when I put it together. You see what I'm saying?

I gotcha, the finished side of the piece will be epoxy side to side. That will work fine. I've been trying to button down a big contract the last 2-3 weeks, my brain is mostly mashed potatoes at this point.

I'm taking the next week off to winterize the compound. I need a few days of day-drinking and throwing stuff in the shed or into the firepit to let my brain recharge.

Thanks man. I’ll be glad too. I’m not going to lie though, my real estate agent is an angel... I can’t believe she and her hubby have taken us in like this.
