Tell me about your RESISTANCE BANDS

I saw someone here commenting about how they are surprised how much resistance bands helped.

I googled resistance bands pull up, because I thought it would be like a weighted pullup. It was the opposite, using a band for an assist, which is actually great for beginners (my kids), but not so much for me.

So, which resistance bands do you recommend, and how do you use them. I feel like pissing some money away on something for my home gym.

I have the X3 bar because I wanted something that I didn't think was going to snap in my face. Its expensive, but that **** ****s me up. I think it's enough for quarantine to prevent muscle wasting and maybe even gain a little. Bands can go up to 500lbs of resistance if you get the big boy one, standard kit comes with 300 lbs.

I use undersun bands that came with a door Anchor. These are a little more pricey but they don't snap with regular use and have a good warranty. I'm a big believer in you get what you pay for.

I get great workouts with them for now, and will try to combine them with weights when the gym opens up.

I got cobra grips purple band(30lb) that I use for getting higher volume on pullups and ring work.
    Would recommend.

You can use bands to make lifts harder depending on your setup.

Elite FTS Bands or the ones from Westside Barbell (jump stretch I think?) are the best I've used. They are really useful to add variation to your routines, and are definitely better than nothing during these times.

A Miniband/monster mini and an average band(1") would probably be the most useful. The really thick ones are kind of pointless unless you're doing equipped lifting.

You can do many exercises with a band, not just pullups...

You must be buying really chitty bands srs.

Prices should be 25-35 bucks per band. Have done over 200 pullups and 50 ring pullups with mine without issue.

I got a 4-pack from "Iron Infidel" for around 45 dollars right at the start of all the COVID madness. I am sure they are sold out by now.

I dig'm. very sturdy. the thickest band is legitimately challenging. lots of creative ways to mimic power moves. use a chair or a door or whatever you have at your disposal.

The stimulus from the band comes from the stretching of it on the concentric. If you can somehow attach the band from the bottom while doing pullups, it will overload the concentric because the band is stretching. If you attach it from the top, it will deload the bottom (hardest part of the movement) in proportion the the amount of lbs of tension of the band. Same idea with a reverse band bench press.

So say your band has 35 lbs of maximum tension, it will be deloaded by approximately 35 lbs at the bottom of the pullup (assuming maximum stretch of band) and at the top of the movement it will have zero lbs. If you placed a band at the bottom instead, there would be very little to no tension at the bottom of the pullup but as you pull up it gets heavier and will have 35 lbs of tension at the top (again assuming maximum stretch). If I wanted to make pullups harder with bands I just simply looped a band around a heavy enough dumbbell, looped the other end to a dip belt or my neck.

With that said a monster mini (usually red) is great for bodyweight movements and isolating muscles like the side/rear delts, triceps, biceps. Those are usually 30-35 lbs of tension. Getting another band that has around 65-75 lbs of tension is also good for targeting bigger muscles or smaller muscles if the lighter bands are too light. Heavier bands might be good if you want to do some squat/deadlift variations.

If you have gym equipment like a barbell in which to put bands on even better.

Have 3 different pairs from elitefts. Normally only use them for close grip bench or squats to overload the triceps or quads at the top of the movement.

But now with no gym been using them for banded push-ups, extensions and leg curls, pushdows and pulldowns. And to make some free weight stuff heavier since i only have 300 pounds of weight.

I've had my Bodylastics for 12 years and never had one snap. They are the tubular clip kind. They allow me to put a lot of resistance on too. In theory you could put like 210lbs per side, but that would probably not be using them optimally.

They are great for shoulder, arms, hamstring curls and a lot of exercises. Squats are about the only thing I don't like them for. Although you can do trap style deadlifts pretty easily.

I have a set of the elite fts bands.

I use them in lots of different ways and normally in supersets. Early in my superset I do a base controlled movements with weights and normally follow with movements using the bands. It helps with explosivity etc..

    Example

Barbell bench, followed by wrapping bands around my back and elbows gripping both ends in my palms, getting in athletic stance and pressing straight forward as fast as I can 5 times with one foot forwards, 5 times with the next. I use my heaviest band for this followed by next heaviest. I normally do a plyometric chest press after pushing my two hands together between my chest, then moving hands palms together up to forehead and pressing my elbows together at the center of my chest.

I like wrapping bands around top of my rack, sidestepping out and pulling the band with arms straight in front of me and lightly squatting down into an athletic position band being pulled parallel to the rack, this pulls all through core/obliques I hold this position about 30seconds each side.

After pull ups I have my heavy bands wrapped around the rack at waist level and I do a one arm pull activating my lats while sitting down. It’s supposed to simulate me having someone in guard and pulling their arm towards me breaking their posture and setting them up for a sweep.

You could also wrap band around top of rack go back deeper into a squat and pull to your crotch with a double underhanded grip to hit some different back muscles think it’s like middle traps and some lats.

As for your pull-ups I normally do this where I lay parallel under a bar with feet elevated on a bench and pull chest straight into bar, if I strap bands across my chest and connect on sides of rack I’m pulling against them for resistance. You could do pull-ups with bands strapped to shoulders, thighs ( with knees pulled up) or feet and strapped to floor. This would create a resistant pull-up instead of an assisted.

These are $150 on the first site I found them on.

Is that what I should expect to pay for good bands?

If you buy the red, blue, green and black it's $82, not to mention the red band is a pair. I think that's a pretty good deal. Pick up the orange band if you want but probably won't be useful outside of rehab/prehab work and stretching.

Anything above 100 lbs IMO isn't necessarily unless you are looking to do something very specific. Even the 100 lb itself might not be necessary depending on what you are trying to do. Could always just combine the 65 + 50 lb band together if you need it.

I shopped around a lot on amazon from various suppliers. I was able to get 7 different bands from the small lightest one up to one that is 8.5cm wide and has like 85-230lbs resistance.

They all seem good quality, most of the ones that come from china are probably all manufactured in one or two spots.

Also got a door anchor and some of those booty bands chicks use.

In total I spent 100$, however i got my main 4pc set right before everyone sold out and prices started skyrocketing.

If I had to say, Rage Against the Machine are probably the most popular resistance band. They're very anarchist in their lyrics.

Those aren't bands. They're tubes like fitness women at the YMCA use.

When people refer to bands, they're referring to a very specific thing. They are made of layers of rubber and they don't snap.

Unless maybe it sat out in a barn for a few years and dry rotted, but it would be dry and you'd know it when you picked it up. I've been using actual bands for many years and I've had some for a decade that haven't snapped. I have a ten year old gray EliteFTS band that I still use every day for pulldown abs, etc.

I'm not lecturing you, I just don't want people to get the wrong idea about actual bands.

I remember that thread and how ironic it is that they charged what they did for tickets.

I've got tickets for Crue and GNR and a few others this summer and I doubt I'll be seeing them.

A Miniband/monster mini and an average band(1") would probably be the most useful. The really thick ones are kind of pointless unless you're doing equipped lifting.
Second the EliteFTS bands. I haven't used the westside ones but I've had a bunch from Elite for going on 2 years now, use then almost everyday and have not had any issues from them.

Pullaparts and facepulls for rehab/prehab work. High rep tricep pressdowns/bicep curls for dat pump. Reverse band setup for squats or bench, standard setup for S/B/D speed work. Ham curls, added to a db for lying pullovers, etc. Sooooo many uses for them when combined with a rack/barbell/bench setup.

I use bands attached to the pull up bar for: rear delt rows, tricep pushdowns, tricep overhead extensions.

I also do high pulls for medial
Delts and band pull aparts for rear delts.
