Has anyone here used the harbor freight 30" pedestal fan? I'd like a workout fan for c2 rowing and other stuff.
How quiet is the low setting? Can I listen to music or watch tv with headphones while being near this fan or is it deafening?
Is the 56" minimum height from the base to the top of the fan cage or is it the height to the hub of the motor?
Seen some coupons around that drop it to $115.

Can't speak to this specific model, but yes 24" and 30" fans put out some significant noise. Headphones should be fine, but don't expect to hear a TV or radio without blasting the sound. I've got two 24" fans in my barn, the low setting is somewhat sound bearable, high is bearable but I haven't put a decibel meter next to them, so not exactly sure. Could probably do that tomorrow morning though.... for bro-science. Both high and low settings do push some air though..... no airflow concerns once I turn one or both on.

I am rowing in the upper level of a house so really loud might be an issue but if the low was equivalent to an 18" diameter (22" outside) box fan's high setting that would be alright, the box fan I use is a few decades old and while reliable, is quite loud but doesn't move much air for all that noise. I've started doing like 100KM/week and the hour and a half sessions start to get pretty sweaty.
If you have a db meter that would be pretty cool. No idea how your units compare to the HF 30" but any help is welcome.

I don't own one, but a quick Amazon search turned this up:

Might work better if noise is a concern.

I’d recommend one of these:

My wife and I use one everyday. Works very well for her peloton stuff and my training. It moves a ton of air and is relatively quiet.

I had the Harbor Freight 24" drum fan. It's obnoxiously loud. Unless you have a Doc Brown style speaker, you won't be able to hear any music.
When i went to a HF store, they had the 30" pedestal on and it did seem quieter.
I've since gone to a ceiling fan in the gym and don't regret it one bit. The difference in noise is absolutely crazy.Garage Gym Owner

Bro-science test Results:
So my pole barn gym..... iPhone decibel readings are as follows.....
Normal silence.... no TV, no fans, no heaters.... dead silence... registers about 35db
24” fan on low setting.... 6’ away.... goes to 55-60db
24” fan on high setting goes to 75-80db again 6’ away
High fan setting within inches of fans goes to 85-90db
In direct line of the fan, you can easily feel the draft from 30’ away.
I’m not a doctor or specialist, and can’t guarantee the test levels.... just reporting the Bro-facts.
My fans are max air tractor supply version. Only one fan was used for testing. Also, the further away from 6’ improved dB ratings.... but I didn’t write those down.
