Seller's Market for weights and equipment right now

If you have extra or unused equipment or weights now is the time to sell.
It seems most companies are out of stock or on back order.
Ive looked at several places like FB market place, craigs list ect and weights are easily going for a dollar a pound or more.
The shut downs of gyms have made many people seek other alternatives to training and many are trying to get some type of home gym together.
I've sold some extra stuff i wasn't using and it went rather quickly.
Weight plates and bars seem to be the hot item.
I myself am not gouging people just asking a fair price for things as if this situation wasn't happening.
Anyway if you have items to sell now is the time.

Gyms around here are actually starting to rent out bars/plates just to keep some income coming in. I am also not gouging, though it's nice to be able to get my asking price with zero negotiation in short order. I also loaned out a decent amount of stuff to the home gym "needy" that I know, but I'm not willing to loan out to randoms.

Wish I could find something, new or used. Where I live everything is sold out, and not a great deal of used equipment around.

Very true on the sellers market
I just loan out (no charge) ,bar ,370 lbs of plates ,collars and Squat stands

There was posting at local CL for 215 lbs Ivanko plates (2 45 ‘s 2 35’s 25’ and one 5 ) with an nice iron company bar and what looked like Ivanko COT 1.25lbs collars .
    Asking price $125
I texted the guy like 20 min into the posting because wanted the iron company bar based on forum’s feedback
Guy texted me back after 20 min saying that it was a bidding war and sold it to first guy that contacted him
Well might have to wait for another 6 months for that bar to show up

I so wish I didn't give my old setup away practically for free to help a friend get back in shape (and it still sits unassembled and unused 3 years later at his house).

On the bright side, in 6 months you might not need to hit it with as much Lysol before you use it!

Well, it is a crime in most states, but it overwhelmingly only applies to necessities. There are only a handful of states where it applies to all goods/services.

Morality is subjective, but from my point of view I have no issue with people jacking up prices on wants (luxuries) to whatever the market will bear. I do take issue with people doing it on items needed to survive though and I'm glad it's illegal in most places.

A wise man once said, "A product is only worth what someone is willing to pay". Intentionally hoarding critical medical supplies that could save lives in anticipation of a pandemic is one thing, but reacting to an increase in market demand for financial gain is just smart business. The concept of "Buy low, sell high" has been around since the dawn of time. My only wish is that I didn't sell off my other equipment last year, I would have been sitting on a gold mine right now.

I think we're both in the UK, where are you based?. The travel restrictions are holding the used market back, the government don't regard picking up weight lifting equipment as "essential travel".

I was too late to the party, I have a couple of benches, bars and generic plates I should have listed before the lock down.

I don't think anyone said gouging on gym equipment was a crime. If a moron is dumb enough to pay $1000 for used SelectTechs, that's the moron's problem. With the PIAS guy paying me what I want for equipment right now I'll take that every time over dealing with the common rabble for a few more bucks.

I'm assuming the people buying now are people that typically don't buy stuff for home, they have no idea what the typical market is and have a higher perception of need.

For sure, I sold my 50lb set for $450 and made about $130 on the deal just for unboxing and putting the stand together.

Apparently with those prices on eBay I shorted myself around $200

I'll say, a lot of even the lower end stuff is selling at premium pricing! I'm almost tempted to put my Ironmaster 5-75 lb DB set with cabinet (2010 edition) up and posted, then buying a new set back from the site when things clear up and get better.

I wouldn't even think twice on that unless they are something you always use. and even then, I could work around it. I was tempted to sell a 300lb set of Yorks but it would leave me a little light for maxing out deads.

Of course if I sold a set, I wouldn't have a 28.5mm bar and would start pulling with my axel and that will drop my maxes....

DOOO EEET! I'm still tempted to put my half rack on there, when the dust settles I could go for a full REP PR-4000 setup.

It's not gouging as long as you don't sell it for more than retail or approx. current retail prices if out of production.

Hopefully people that bought will have for a possible future event.
I guess also it could be a bartering product for things you need if money is worthless.

Well I believe I made out pretty decent today, sold off my 265 lbs of SA plates at $1.50/lb (no barbell with it cause I gave it to my friend a ways back).

Also sold my custom flat bench, took a bit of a hit on it factoring in its freight charge at the time, but not too bad at $225 (made more on the plates above).

Also have a few other potential offers coming up and I received my Fat Gripz today...bittersweet times for this stuff, but making the most out of it.

Thought about doing the same. Last ebay listing sold for about 2k minus fees. I use my Powerblocks more than the IM's. Got 1 more month to list it, but I think in the long run more people are going to still work out at home in fear of getting sick.

Yeah, I'm in the UK. I'd travel to buy second hand kit and take the risk, but can't find anything in a 40 mile radius.

Can't even find a new pull up bar that's in stock at the moment.

Sold 320lb of comp bumpers with horizontal stand and Texas deadlift bar for $1210 CAD.

Now I have to figure out which bar I want to buy. Problem is the border is closed so I'm very limited to what I can get.

I’ve bought a few things from Bells of Steel . Never seen this much gear out of stock before .
Interesting how some people lose and others prosper during this China flu ordeal

I just ordered my new Rogue Ohio bars in the nick of time, as everything is on back order now

I purchased from Rogue a couple of weeks ago and they almost everything they have now is sold out. I also picked up a Concept2 rower and they are sold out as well, direct from factory.
