That seems like a good strategy. But I think you should go to the hospital if it doesn´t get better in the next few days.

If I can find one on amazon I will but the delivery is probably really backed up. I can’t imagine I’ll find one anywhere in NYC if I sent someone to go look for me. Without a doubt I agree with you that I could really use one right now.

I know you spoke with a doctor you know. Still highly suggest you attempt to contact a local ER to consult with someone actively treating this. Tell them on the phone that you are COVID positive, 2 weeks in, and you are experiencing burning in your lungs and are lightheaded.

Maybe it is okay (hope so), but if you are accumulating fluid in your lungs you do not want to wait and see on this. EMS is slammed AFAIK and I doubt your GF could carry you down to a cab.

I’m going to see if I can get a chest X-ray done tomorrow. On a good day ER’s in the city are horrendous, I cannot imagine how they are now. I’d really like to avoid that unless it becomes clear I need supplemental oxygen.

Props for clear headed handling of it- sought medical advice, followed it without causing more stress on the system. Sounds like you're willing to seek help if & when you need it too, if it comes to that, that's why we have hospitals. Europe has had plenty of healthy young people end up in ICU.

    Best wishes.

In the meantime, if you're having some difficulty breathing, try to lay down on your belly (prone position) and see if that helps.

This thread scared the chit outta me srs.

I now know of at least 5 young and healthy people who have have severe cases of Coronavirus. 3 are on ventilators. I’m talking in the 20-40 age range. It seems like these are the types of cases that are skyrocketing lately too. This thing is no joke.

There are over 50 confirmed cases (and counting) within a 2 miles radius of me. Some of these people undoubtedly shopped at the same grocery store I’ve been going to. I’m starting to worry about even getting food at this point. The flu symptoms don’t phase me as much as the lung issues. I suffered from asthma as a kid and have been to the point where I had to practically gasp for air before getting put on a nebulizer. It’s sheer terror to experience this. Once you can’t breath you can pass out within seconds and you’re fully aware of it.

Brb loading up on zinc, vitamin C, D, probiotics, elderberry and whatever other immune boosting supps I can find in my cabinet.

I hope you and your girl are doing better, OP. I can’t even imagine. I think if you’re having any trouble breathing, you should go see a doctor. Better safe than sorry. You’re gonna make it tho. Please keep us updated.

I forgot to mention one more thing about the oximeter

Make sure your finger/fingernails are clean because if they're dirty it can give an incorrect low reading

Yes, it should. That's a good idea actually.

Pursed lip breathing generates positive end-expiratory pressure which helps alveoli (the tiny air sacs in your lungs) from collapsing and getting stuck in the collapsed state. To be more specific, there's a hypothesis that certain lung cells called type II pneumocytes are more greatly impacted by the virus. One of the jobs of the type II pneumocytes is to produce surfactant, which reduces surface tension, helping collapsed alveolar walls from getting stuck together and allowing the alveoli to fill up with air. If there's no surfactant, they collapse, don't reopen, and your lungs don't work as well.

Silent hypoxemia ... not to be a fearmonger, but that reminds me of a patient I took care of.

We had a woman in her mid-20s admitted to the ICU for fever and hypoxia. She had crappy looking lungs on CT scan. Weirdly enough, she had a lot of boil scars on her back, like from prior infections. But she looked otherwise fine. She was speaking full sentences, she could laugh, maintain eye contact, etc. But we knew she was very sick. Young people have a strong physiologic reserve until the final straw breaks the camel's back.

Within an hour or two, she started to become very short of breath, and non-invasive supplemental oxygen wasn't enough. We had to intubate her and put her on mechanical ventilation. Her oxygen saturation wasn't improving much, so we put her RotoProne bed and put her in prone position to help her oxygenate. Her blood cultures came back positive for Staph (I don't remember if it was MRSA or methicillin-sensitive).

She stayed intubated for a few days, and it looked like she was in severe sepsis/acute respiratory distress syndrome. Eventually, even ventilation wasn't enough for her as we maxed out the ventilator settings, but her oxygenation was getting worse. The next option was ECMO, and she was transferred out to another unit for that.

Although she was in another unit, I kept tabs on her situation, hoping she would improve. One of the nurses noticed the patient had a blown pupil while under ECMO; she was rushed out for an emergent CT scan of her head. It revealed that she had multiple brain bleeds which looked like they developed from septic emboli, infection that had seeded her brain. When you're on an ECMO circuit, you're anticoagulated, so you're more prone to bleeding. She bled enough that her brain herniated, and she was essentially brain-dead.

The family came to terms that we had to pull the plug on her when they realized she was never going to come back.

Then he went outside for 30 minutes to sweat.

This guys has heart issues. He's doing much better following this routine. His belief is the virus hates heat.

Edit: Also if you can hold in your breath for 10 seconds flat with out having a cough or irritability you're ok for respiratory(I read this on chinese's news article and somewhere else.)

    Hey Allianc3 my dude.

Monitor your oxygen saturation levels, you can do this without needing to go a doctor or hospital. In a healthy person it will be 95+ if it drops below 90 go to hospital.

You’re young and fit so you will (ironically?) be given priority for a ventilator if it comes to it.
