    Unhappy Why am I losing weight but not size (measurement in inches)?

    I have been taking my measurements since late December, and although I've gone down 5 pounds I have not changed in my measurements. There has been some imbalances that have been corrected (my calves, for instance, are now the same size) but overall there has been no muscle growth despite working out 4-5x a week. For reference, I measure my biceps, waist, hips, glutes, thighs, and calves.

    I am trying to do a body recomposition situation which I understand can be hard to achieve and even if this doesn't happen for me, where I lose fat and gain muscle, I would be fine.

    I am just scared because I have lost weight but I see no muscle growth, so, did I just lose fat? I am hoping this is the case but I am scared that I am loosing muscle somehow in the process and that my measurements are the same because my muscle is being replaced with fat.

    Please if anyone has some scientific or experience-based knowledge about this I would really appreciate it.

    You have fat all over your body. So losing fat can shrink all measurements.

    Have you been getting continuously stronger? I don't necessarily mean you 1 rep max bench - I just mean has the number of reps you typically get with the working weight in each main lift gone up steadily?

    e.g.

    barbell row (dec): 8 x 50kg ( = 62.1kg)
    barbell row (jan): 12 x 50kg ( = 70kg)
    barbell row (feb): 8 x 60kg ( = 74.5kg)
    etc.

    This kind of general strength / ability to do work will go up if you are gaining muscle. Measuring it like this is less reliant on the specialised training needed to produce 1 rep maxes.

    One way to resolve the difference between reps vs. weight is to use a 1RM calculator (but never actually do max singles). In the example I gave above, I calculated the estimated 1RM in brackets. This is what needs to get higher over time.

    How much do you weigh? A weight loss is relative to your size so 5lbs is not really that much in the big picture of you weigh 200lbs+. As mentioned, fat loss occurs throughout your body so not sure you can even measure with enough accuracy to determine a change. Especially if you are trying to take these measurements yourself.

    As SuffolkPunch mentioned, focus on your progression of your lifts instead.
