I get the feeling that this guy could video himself taking a chit on the toilet, upload to it youtube with the title "first man to deadlift 1200lbs" and if you called it out, these followers would still be like "lets see you lift that amount". Well, maybe even thats a stretch but you get the idea.

Clearly you weren't around 12+ years ago when the gold standard of PL was bloated fat fuks in triple ply gear+briefs+wraps+belt half squatting only to get three white lights.

This is not a meet lift so it doesn't really count for chit. If it's not a meet lift on calibrated plates and raw then the number is pretty useless. That being said this type of video can get you rich just look at babyslayer. Never squatted or really benched heavy just made vids of himself deadlifting with a mile of whip height on his bar and doing touch and go and made hundreds of thousands of dollars selling cookie cutter programs to people who didn't know any better. Same ol same ol.
This. The Westside Barbell era of PL was a joke. The past 5 years or so have been kind of a new "golden era" of powerlifting although I think it's at its end now

Was it a legit lift that would count in a powerlifting competition? No. Do I think there are more than a handful of people in the world who could duplicate the lift given the same conditions? No. Is he strong as hell? Yes. Is OP a phaggot? Yes.

"The greatest feeling you can get in a gym, or the most satisfying feeling you can get in the gym is... The Pump. Let's say you train your biceps. Blood is rushing into your muscles and that's what we call The Pump. You muscles get a really tight feeling, like your skin is going to explode any minute, and it's really tight - it's like somebody blowing air into it, into your muscle. It just blows up, and it feels really different. It feels fantastic.

    Nothing new OP

I remember I went to a powerlifting gym about 7 years ago because I wanted to check it out. Some 150 pound kid claimed he could bench 400 pounds. Then I found out it was with a bench shirt which adds hundreds of pounds to your max. The trainer there was some bloatmaxxed manlet who wanted to get me to 275 fat and charge me $250 a month.

Never went back there and hit my goals by myself while staying lean. So glad I made that decision.

Lol at telling people you bench press X and not qualify that it was using a device that mechanically assists you

It would be like me putting on 5 inch shoe lifts then going on tinder and telling them sloots I'm 6 foot lol

Yes agreed OP. Not a valid lift.

I hate when phaggots do this, be it in powerlifting, university, violin, boxing or other sports.

The lift is very impressive by itself valid or not but don’t start claiming “first person to do X lift”, when it isn’t a valid lift. Why try to make it seem even greater than it is, especially when the feat is impressive no matter what.
I see people doing this all the time in many areas. Linguistic accuracy matters.

That's why some feds have in the rules you have to do all 3 lifts with the same bar.

The whip in a deadlift bar that helps you will kill you in a squat.

Not gonna get into a whole sumo vs conventional argument because I've never pulled sumo. But after that 1st rep in that vid nothing was a deadlift.

I'd even throw strong man competitions in there. Farmer's Carry, Truck Pulls, and those fuking Atlas stones? Brutal. They at least KINDA pretend there's some sort of aerobic/athleticism to their builds.

I see people doing this all the time in many areas. Linguistic accuracy matters.
Thank you, thats my whole point of this thread.

Maybe he should call it a "dufflift" instead of a "deadlift"

On the guy's bio page: https://www.elitefts.com/author/chris-duffin/
    He says:
one of the strongest pound-for-pound humans in the world with a 944lb squat and 1002lb deadlift, the latter standing as the Guinness World Record which he completed almost 3 repetitions with.
So he obviously thinks its as legit of a deadlift as benedikt magnusson's 1015 deadlift, which was done with no straps, no whippy bar, conventional.

How are y'all defending this crap?

I agree he's a complete phaggot. He'd still be strong if he used a stiff bar but he feels the need to post these kinds of lifts then walks away as if he's king of the fkn world.

    375lb Bench
    675lb Deadlift

it probably would be a legit in a meet that allowed that sort of bar, the most popular fed by far is the IPF which uses a standardized bar for each lift. I think USPA use deadlift specific bars.

Regardless of whatever you might think this was a strong af lift. He probably doesn't weigh any more than 250 lbs either. Guy is an accomplished powerlifter, coach, has impressive as fuark lifts to go along with it, also has a degree in engineering and masters in business and runs his own gym. Can't hate on the guy srs. I think he sort of takes that engineering approach to his lifting, always experimenting with different chit.

It's a gym lift so who gives a fuk, legit in my eyes. The third rep isn't and it's touch and go but w/e.

Yep, it’s devolved into guys squatting and deadlifting 1000+ lbs. What a shame

    A guiness record? Ayy
This always comes to mind: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=k_tQk25pR60
(No imbed cause I’m in bed on my phone and about to sleep)

This is an example of the same inaccuracy but with the violin. Turns out some popular YouTube Channel later found it, made fun of it (like the comment section is doing) and guiness later removed the record lmao.
Of course this guy is much less impressive as a whole, but the principle is the same.

My neighbor is former British powerlifting champ Andrew Raynes - He's old AF now but he still throws the weights around in his backyard (true story - the reason I found out who he was is I stuck my head over the fence because all I heard all day was the doof doof of the weights hitting the floor).

His opinion is everyone should play by the same rules:

Deadlift - you have to perform a Sumo and Traditional
Benchpress - no arch in your back
    Squat - below the knees.

He think's modern powerlifting is a joke and obviously some gas going around.

but he's 5 foot nothing so what does he know.
