    Are leg raises enough for abs ?

    Hello, i have a question. At the end of my training i always do hanging leg raises as exercise for abs and core. Many people told me, that leg raises alone are not enough for abs and i should add some "crunch" movement like sit-ups. Is this true, or leg raises alone (with good form) are enough ? Thanks

    What is your goal with them?
    Just to exercise the abdominals they are fine.
    To build muscle not enough IMO.

    I think it’s fine if you are doing heavy compounds. All I do is leg raises and ab wheel rollouts

    That's a good exercise to be proficient at for hip agility and hanging strength.

    It's as good an ab exercise as anything.

    I find them hard to load myself, but they are great for the back after squats IME.

    I've been weight lifting for about 25 years, I've never allowed myself to be out of shape for very long and Abs I have decided are the most difficult workout for me. I always struggle to achieve any kind of good "burn" with any Abdominal workout after a couple weeks of use. I have a unit for Leg raises and chin ups in the basement and I despise it. Leg raises feel great for the first couple days, then you feel like you need to start adding weight, but even if I weight my legs it starts to feel like I'm hitting muscles in my hips more than my Abs. It winds up feeling awkward and tedious and takes too many reps to get a good burn. It's mostly mental I guess but there is only ONE machine that I've found that makes my Ab workouts feel like my chest workouts.

    Search youtube for Hammer Strength MTS Ab machine. ( The blue grey one) forum won't let me post links or images right now.

    This is the only machine I'll use for Abs now if I have the option. ( Which I don't with the gyms closed)

    Now I remember how much I hate leg raises.

    I was considering a Rogue GHB for my basement, but having not tried one I fear that it won't feel any better than leg raises and it's a lot of money to chance.

    This. Get an Ab wheel and learn to use it correctly. They are cheap.
