Eh, true. We had plenty of warning signs that this was kind of a big deal though. 80% of their economy ground to a halt, hundreds of millions of citizens on lockdown, biggest holiday cancelled... I mean, fuk, yeah the numbers infected/dead don't really tell the story, their own reaction did.
Virtue is its own reward.

I imagine the powers that be will try to distance from China while shifting our dependence on poor countries that border the US.
The shift to countries that border the US won’t stop those countries from buying things from China and providing to the US.
Neoliberalism needs to be destroyed for people to prosper

You never really know.
Based on my readings about China from foreign policy experts and military personnel, they've conducted some very, very intricate operations to achieve their objectives. Their number one weapon is utilizing deception to keep everyone in the dark about what they are doing or what their intentions are. They've even used their propaganda arm to re-enforce stereotypes about China in regards to their economy being weak and feeble, their country being unstable, etc, all to make people believe they aren't a threat.
"Oh China's not a threat, they'll collapse soon, revolution will happen", said the paid Chinese propagandist.

Not much.
Smart people will probably say that we need to move a lot of manufacturing back to the USA (remember, manufacturing can often be retooled quite quickly to produce different items, but it takes much much longer to establish the manufacturing base to start with), libertarians and vested interests (not mutually exclusive) will scream "socialism" and "what about our tremendous profits", your politicians will get bought out, and not much changes except for the families of the dead who couldn't get care wondering why a filthy socialist hell-hole like SK had 4 times as many hospital beds to treat their ill than the greatest country on earth murica. My personal pronouns are: Don't talk to me/Fck off

Expect - not much, but I do hope it lights a few fires under some asses and - man this is going to sound like fiction - get people to finally understand the need for restrictions on borders and travel. This is why we can't just let everyone with a song in their heart hop and skip into the United States completely unchecked.
If that is hard enough for some to grapple with, here's the Fate and the Furious insane, fictive hope that we don't have to repeat this initial hand-wave of what should be universally accepted procedures of blocking travel immediately from countries with an outbreak, and aggressive screening of anyone who might have traveled to those regions and returned home. Try telling families and loved ones that it is somehow "racist" and "xenophobic" to take actions that could potentially save hundreds to thousands of lives, as we have literally just witnessed. Those terms have jumped the shark so many times damn near every week that they might as well apply to the xenomorphs from Alien, so pump the breaks on the social justice virtue signaling in the wake of a crisis that gives zero f*cks about anyone's race, gender, religion, or creed. Now, a government order can't really be made to cement the truth that "we're all in this together, whether we agree on [x] or not," but it's disappointing that we are seriously going through that at the moment.
The nature of the COVID-19 outbreak highlighted our inability to handle medical supply chain issues, but equally if not more important is that we need to begin taking manufacturing of drugs in the United States seriously.
This relates to a business perspective, in that if this pandemic hasn't been the necessary wake up call to corporations the world over to stop relying on China, then it would seem that continued efforts to discourage business operations in China would be in order, but equally important, measures that help incentivize production ideally here in the United States, or at least in countries other than China.
Central and South America would be a terrific, relatively local (compared to China) partner that would also have the advantage of elevating the nations within those reasons economically, providing jobs that would serve as safe, viable opportunities over crime. That lack of alternatives is a major force for individuals turning towards criminal organizations and illegal activities, creating a chain of negative effects like higher crime and death rates that in turn drive emigration, and thus illegal immigration.
Next, this might be left field, but the government needs to push internet service providers and telecommunication companies to expand and bolster our infrastructure for an untold number of reasons (we could chalk it up to: it's 2020 and the current situation is unacceptable for a first world country). If the quarantines have shown us anything, it is that our current internet infrastructure is struggling just enough to where it would not be able to sustain a future emergency as bandwidth usage increases.
Expanding upon that point, a quarantine necessitates many to work from home, and having the infrastructure in place to support masses of people transitioning towards working from home would at least alleviate the total impact and possible economic fallout since everything would not come grinding to a standstill. Part of the burden must be shared by corporations, however, as the ability to work from home needs to be available for its own host of reasons, but the return will be less painful transitions should the need arises like it has recently.
To be blunt: Remoting in is the way of the future, and the faster society embraces that, the better we'll all be for doing so. It's cheaper, more efficient, puts fewer cars on the roads, reducing pollution and gas consumption, do I need to throw in a free set of steak knives? It's just better when it's applicable to the job or type of education.
Finally, China needs to be held accountable, point blank. If it means keeping them indebted to the rest of the free world like German after World War I, then so be it. Knee-capping China has a whirlwind of benefits all on its own, but given their proclivity for unleashing virus after virus, and now this particular virus, they need far more than a slap on the wrist.I will stand firm, I refuse to kneel - The fury in me is divine
My dark grave awaits, my fate is revealed - But I'm not afraid to die
