The median cost of rent (not a mortgage) alone is a hair under $2000 in Southern California. i'm not sure how much it is in New York or Hawaii but i'm sure its equal to, or exceeds that amount.

in other words, its chump change, and on top of rent people have an minimum of an additional $1,200 in expenses every month (student loans/car loans/utilities/food/gas/insurance)

Is there a way to roll out a package that adjusts for COL? I would imagine it's possible, however that would likely take some time to draft, and agree upon.

I think you make some good points, especially in relation to high cost of living areas.

How much do you think would be an adequate amount?

silly "scorched earth" ideas doesn't advance the conversation. if you ignore coastal residents of this country you're ignoring close to 25% of the entire US population. When they hurt, so does the rest of the nation.

    The great republican bailout bill:
    - The money can go to any corporation
    - The money basically comes without strings
    - We won't know which companies this goes to until 6 months later

Hmmmmm I wonder what will happen:
    a. Companies spend this productively on workers and stimulate the economy and help their employees.
    b. Companies pay giant bonuses to their executives and sit on the cash until the economy is deemed safe again. A big chunk goes to Trump properties.

Hard to say, hard to say. If only we had some similar event that happened about 12 years ago that could tell what would happen. But as far as I'm aware, no such event exists.

The optics for Dems are bad enough as it is. They used the fact that several republicans were under self-quarantine (the responsible thing to do) as opportunity to block the bill. Something they would've otherwise been unable to do. Makes them look even more cynical.

Trumps new trade bill had protections for unions.

but, who is making that kind of money in a coast city that cannot work from home?
nobody in the hospitality industry (hardest hit) for example is living in a 2k/month home unless they are escorts.

i'm trying to understand who is making that kind of money that can no longer work because their place shut down?

I wish that were the case. But airline green house gas regulations, giving union (dem donors) unprecedented bargaining powers, and corporation diversity quotas, have jack chit nothing to do with battling the chinese virus, and everything to do with not letting a good crises go to waste... and that's sickening.

And that abstinence teaching, damn you'd think the dems wouldn't try to stick that one in...oh wait.

Two things republicans can get down with. Giving free money to corporations, no strings attached. And teaching young people abstinence. I can't really think of any plans more likely to fail.

Please explain to me how receiving loans that need to be paid back is = taking free money with no strings attached.

Asked this in another thread and you ignored, lil' buddy.

    Thanks!

So the dems are holding up the bill because they want to somehow tie in environmental BS and other garbage?

Dems are just toying with the future of our country.

Shouldn't expect much else from the party that can't even successfully run a primary election without mass chaos.
