Why would you need to squat 7 plates????? Go run a 6 minute mile for 5 miles.

Also, 7 plates? I am heavy on the Scotch, not sure that really adds up.

Fact: My first-generation uncle was a boxer who fought Sugar Ray Robinson! He also fought in the war, sacrificing the career he deeply loved, so people could have the right to freedom.

When you do push ups, hand stands and anything, involve the scapular, be strong at the core. I know people don't care, they will do crap form woodpecker push ups and think they did a bunch of push ups. Even worse form on dips. Come on man, get what it's supposed to be first down right and then do more reps.

Gymnastics is not about developing aerobic or anaerobic endurance! This sport revolves around power, strength, muscular control, balance, coordination, gracefulness, agility and poise... Do you realize how difficult it would be to efficiently train for both sports at the same time?? Take up hitting a heavy bag or use mitts right now. That's my "recommendation."

One more thing- gymnastics is NOT calisthenics! Calisthenics just means body weight exercises such as push ups, handstand push ups, bar or ring dips (forget dips on rings if you're new to this apparatus), pull ups, planks and more basic exercises, etc...).
If I remember correctly you're a PT, which is kind of disappointing to hear you state this.

Many gymnasts use weights to train as well, and many including myself include calisthenics in their routine.
You have to prioritize what you want to focus on progression wise, but you can improve both at the same time with sufficient rest and recovery on a progressive program.

Nobody is going to start out doing iron crosses and planche pushups, they'll learn very quickly how hard and long it'll take and they'll need to plan to progress to it just like every other exercise. Having people do just dips and pushups is a bad mindset, they'll never improve beyond that and that is where most PTs fail when they don't plan a progressive program to reach a goal that makes sense. It's like saying "You should not attempt lifting at home without any official weight lifting training!! Start with some jumping jacks and medicine balls.", see how stupid that is?

There's so many online resources for learning how to do these movements, and even specific resources for how to incorporate them into lifting programs.

Imo 50 muscle ups is more impressive and more beneficial than a 2 hour bicep curl session

I do lift weight (squats, overhead press) but the majority of my exercise is body weight and boxing

Honestly the reason gymnasts are able to pull off those moves is because they're manlets with short limbs, which makes doing those exercises much easier. Still impressive, but this is why tall people aren't gymnasts

Yeah that's impressive. But it probably took him 10-15 years to get to that level. This is gonna be an example of what you think you look like vs what you actually look like.

Nothing wrong with calisthenics. You can obtain and maintain a good physique without weight lifting for sure.

why not both? using weights is a beneficial addition to any sport that involves developing strength and power. It's the foundation of anything athletic.

reminds me when I used to do BJJ and techniquecels would get mad because I could overpower them and use my strength to pull off submissions/pin/escape. But but but I have way better technique. While that may be true, you still lost, and you're a coping phaggot. Technique is just the efficient application of strength and strength itself is a skill/technique that you need to learn if you plan on being competitive and mastering anything athletic in nature. Imagine knowing how to do an arm-bar, chokes and some ancient advanced techniques but you are too weak and too much of a DYEL phaggot to pull it off on anybody. And then you take self-pride and reassurance that you have "skills and are more skilled than everybody else" yet can't apply it in any sort of practical environment. Strength allows you to apply technique.

Strength is never a weakness. Put two skilled fighters in a cage, the stronger and more athletic guy is probably going to win.
