    Calisthenics squats poll2

Ok a rework of the pistol squat poll, since pistols didn't seem popular.

The question is -- you got any better ideas?

So, bodyweight only and simple/common household objects only. No dumbbells/kettlebells/barbells even home made concrete weights not permissible here

What is the best way to strengthen legs in absence of a barbell or gym equipment. Anyone who says "30 minutes of soccer will make you hooge" is liable to negging

    Forgetaboutit - impossible
    High rep air squats parallel
High rep air squats attempting ATG
    Deep Lunges
    Pistol squats (or progression towards)
    Skater squats (or progression towards)
    Other - please specify
Faith in Jesus first and faith in squats second.
Then other details will start to slot themselves into place.

I would pistol squat if I could. That’s a damn hard movement. I know you can progress by squatting to a bench but I have never attempted them for long enough to get past that stage.

    I voted lunges.

Pistols and shrimp squats. Do them at a slow tempo and you have the GOAT squat movements.

Other - split squats work for me.

Pistols feck my creaky old knees in short order, split squats are about as much as they can handle and get a nice burn going in my quads.

Beyond this, to maintain progressive overload you're going to have to start feeding her heavily. This is exactly what Milo would have done if he was alive today!

I think deep jumping squats is what did for my right knee? although not sure if it was the actual cause of the damage or just precipitated existing damage to become an issue. Other than my personal knee weirdness it was effective for quads

Do bodyweight squats at high volume (5 x 50-100)

    Pistol and shrimp squat progressions

Plyo / box jumps (be careful with them)

    Long wall holds

If you do this hard 3-4x pw you will lose very little.....

(Sauce: maintained almost all of my 2.5x bw squat for 2+ years of no squatting while travelling)

My gym is doing a ZOOM workout on Saturday morning,

1000 box step-ups for time. 20 inch box carrying 45Lb additional weight (if you have a rucksack).

I imagine that is going to stress the quads a little, I'm told by people that have done it before its a 60-80 minute workout.

    might give it a go!

how do you keep count? (do you use a "hand tally" to use the official name - or do you stand on your phone each rep or use a "peedo-meter" )
When I start to push myself and the breathing gets hard - personally i'd be at high risk of losing count
And if you lose count do you have to start over again

High rep stuff like that I do sets of 25, and I rotate around the 4 corners of the box so I know when I return to the beginning I've done 100, then I would break and mark it down on a paper or board.

In the gym we have the hand tally things.

If you have access to cement fill milk jugs and you can make weights, weights in a heavy duty backpack and pistol squats are hard, weight with sissy squats and nordic hamstring curls are good too

Oh and you could use the milk jug weights for kettle bell squat swings I think the handle would be strong enough and gobble squats

I voted 'other'. Plyometric full squat jumps and lunge jumps will do the job, but you absolutely must approach these two exercises with caution. Start with moderately explosive singles and very slowly work up to an intensity that doesn't allow more than ten continuous reps for each exercise.
It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society.

It's easy to not be afraid of tigers when you're sitting in your living room watching a television program about tigers. When you're in the jungle where the tigers are, it's quite a different story.

Okay not just squats but all body weight and fun routine as well - much harder than I thought it would be and strangely my creaky old knees didn't struggle with it.

Here's a fun one just with air squats and a deck of cards. This is attributed to Mike Tyson who supposedly did this workout while he was in jail.
