I don't see a single thing wrong with these letters. It's a terrible idea for someone to stop paying their rent(unless as an absolute last resort), as no formal leasing company is going to lease to them in the future with bad rental history on their credit.
I work with a bunch of landlords, and they are receiving nasty emails from millionaire parents trying to get out of paying $800/mo for their kids rent due to college classes going online(even though they signed a 12 month lease). These landlords are sending these letters to get in front of anybody who thinks they have a chance.

That is why it is nice to live in a Southern state. Over the past 10 years I have only had to evict 4 tenants from our rental properties. In our county I can have them out in about 35 days. Aint no squatting here!
this is why the world is fuked. in a time of human compassion where we need to bond together, we will prioritize greed.
I have been self employed my entire life. When 08-12 hit, there was no unemployment for me. I had to be self reliant. I did not have work for 3+ years. It was not very fair. I had to cash out my retirements, sell off anything I could and yes....pay to keep a roof over my head.
Why is this any different? Housing is not free nor is it guaranteed. I have worked very hard to accrue our rentals.....had to pay real money for them. Why should they be free to others?
Now if the govt wants to step in and cover people's rent like they do for unemployment, that can be a call for ALL of the US taxpayers to help out. But you cant simply put the burden on the people who have 2,3 or 20 rental homes and expect them to just absorb it....RAW lifts

I guess it depends on specific laws in a given location, but in my city you serve tenants with a 30 day notice to leave the premises. Court could drag out a month or two, but it's never going to be more than 90 days to get someone out. I personally don't know anybody who will rent to someone with a recent eviction on their record, regardless of whether they have a cosigner or not.
I guess if people want to move back in with their parents for a few years it's ok to stop paying rent......

Yes, when you run a business of any sort, you can expect people to steal from you from time to time. Nothing about that makes it right and the people condoning it need a reality check.
I did take that risk. That is why I have no problems letting the system remove people from my properties if they don't pay. I cant imagine living in a state that allows people to squat for a year or more. Nothing about that is right. When I have had to evict people, I generally lose 3 months income plus the damages the tenant has done.
(generally, someone who does not pay their rent, does not take care of a property either). I have several judgments against former tenants. One for $9500 and another for over $6000. Yes....I also get judgments against people.RAW lifts

Revenue shortfalls, as you put it, are not because people getting and not paying for the services that businesses are providing....they are because those services are not in demand at the moment. Businesses are not being stolen from is what I am saying. It is just demand for non-essential services is way down. THAT is called the cost of doing business.
Investing in real estate does not pay the big returns like some other businesses. BUT it is very stable because people always need it. Rates of returns of those other businesses now experiencing shortfalls are MUCH greater when times were good. It will be a good lesson not to 'stick your neck out too far'. I lived through 09-13 while being self-employed.
I am missing the point about how asking people to pay rent, and if they don't, evicting them is somehow wrong.
What if people all stop making their car payments? Are the banks wrong for taking the cars back?
Obviously the idea of entitlement is strong with the younger kids of this world. But there are certain realities to life. It is not free.RAW lifts
