Again, ignoring the different sources of the statements. You also have to keep in mind that at the beginning very little was known about the transmissibility of the virus or its lethality, but the preliminary figures gave plenty of cause for concern. Urging an abundance of caution is not panic, especially early on when the number of cases and fatalities were increasing exponentially. There's every indication that this caution is what's responsible for the leveling in the number of cases.

The key here is droplets. Unless I'm totally mistaken, the virus rides in droplets, it's not free floating on its own. They're either larger droplets from sneezing or coughing, or small aerosol droplets from just breathing. The size of the virus matters less than the size of the droplet. A mask can have a large enough weave to allow the bare virus through, but small enough to block and absorb the droplets the virus rides on. So while it's not 100% impervious, a cloth mask that absorbs moisture will provide significant protection in both directions.

Just looked closer at that. WTF LOL. Global suicide deaths top over 1 million people every year, drug deaths account for over half a million deaths yearly and global deaths related to alcohol are well over 3 million deaths.
