Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard - Thoughts?

Getting back into workouts and want to get a good whey protein to have after I'm done at the gym (whenever they re-open from this corona ****).

Is Optimum Nutrition Gold a good way to go?

No need for a post-workout shake, but ON is fine. If you have taken it in the past it's the exact same regardless of the length of your hiatus.
Supplement a good diet: don't diet on supplements.

What do you mean no need for a post-workout shake? You gotta get the whey in right after you're done lifting.

You've been reading stuff published by supplement manufacturers who benefit from this common misconception.

Protein is of course important, just that the timing of it is relatively unimportant. This means that you can eat a wholefood meal an hour later and the results will be indistinguishable from chugging down a shake in the changing rooms immediately after (more enjoyable too).

    https://www.nutritiontactics.com/mea...Protein_timing

In addition, resistance exercise enhances the muscle protein synthetic response to protein ingestion for at least 24 hour (Burd, 2011). It is certainly possible that the synergy between exercise and protein ingestion is the largest immediately post-exercise and then slowly declines in the next 24 h hour. However, these data suggest that there is not a limited window of opportunity during which protein is massively beneficial immediately post-exercise, that suddenly closes within a couple of hours.
Also, it's very common to be in the fed state with a good level of circulating amino acids before training - further negating the need for quickly ingesting protein afterwards.

I normally eat a meal 1-2 hours before workout. So I want to get some protein in after the workout when the muscles can really use it.

If you get your calories and protein in for the day, each day, by the end of the day, you're covered.

Amino acids from a meal you ate a couple hours before, and the meal before that, will be there.

If you had protein in the meal pre-training then you're fine. Don't simultaneously over and underestimate the human metabolism. Focus on hitting your macros. If anything carb timing can serve relevant for some populations (not your average joe in the gym), but protein timing serves little relevance. Ideally you want to spike MPS between 3-5x a day.
Supplement a good diet: don't diet on supplements.

Beyond what the other good bros have said, you don't understand how digestion works. Food takes upwards of 48 hours to full digest depending upon what you ate and what you ate it with. Meet your macro daily and you'll have plenty of amino acids. Nutrient timing is not relevant for the vast majority of people regardless of how supp company marketing has made you believe otherwise.

taste is rather poor, but it is a quality product, there's been no need for them to update the flavor since the 90s since they are so well known
