For anyone doubting the benefits of cardio

These 2 pictures were taken 16 days from each other, and no dietary changes. Only the addition of HIIT cardio, (6)- 15 second sprints, 4x a week. Which takes me 10 minutes.
This is probably the leanest I've been in a couple of years.

Just want to show all the people who say you can burn fat effectively from lifting. In my experience this is partly true, but to a point. It is slow and you will plateau. And if you are trying to build muscle at the same time, it will be harder to achieve.

What gets you results are consistency, going through with your workout according to schedule, even if you don't feel like it.
And intensity, pushing as hard as you can, until you feel like you're going to die, because that's when you burn the most calories.

Good job. But the problem with single anecdotes is always there - you can't know that you couldn't have achieved the same thing by simply adjusting your intake.

You're right, you can achieve the same thing by eating less. But being hungry bothers me and probably wouldn't be maintainable for me personally to consistently eat less than I'm used to, and I know many people are the same.

This IMO is the true magic of cardio in regard to cutting/diet - it makes it easier to eat more and still get results.

Not to mention the myriad health benefits it brings along.

I can maintain a certain lean-ness year round without cardio. However, I too add it in when I want to get shredded. It beats the hell out of having to eat less! Lol

I do some cardio if I'm not lifting (sometimes take strategic deconditioning breaks). There is no doubt that cardio makes you feel better - stops you feeling cold and has some appetite suppression effects for a few hours at least.

I couldn't do HIIT alongside my regular lifting (5-6 days a week) schedule though...

How does anyone know they can't do HIIT after weight training if they haven't even tried it? HIIT (less intense than SIT, which is generally full-out 20 second intervals) is an excellent way for anyone to become all-around physically fit and healthy. It usually complements your strength training! I was able to get away with not spending time counting calories, not feeling "hangry" or hungry and become ripped/shredded (upper body) as my fitness levels continually improved! All I did was eat clean wholesome food, for the most part, and pour my efforts into training hard with the sustained energy and power output I got from eating enough overall daily calories. HIIT doesn't have to be daily, if you can develop a taste for eating more "wholesome" foods. And I have a feeling a lot of people may need to rely on some cardio, at the moment, to stay fit, strong and optimistic!
^^ It's true, my first-generation uncle was a boxer who fought Sugar Ray! He also fought in the war, sacrificing the career he deeply loved, so people could use freedom of speech!

...So, let's show RESPECT for our POLICE and ALL FIRST RESPONDERS, by helping to keep THEM SAFE AND SOUND, so they can PROTECT US!!
