As a side note, sumo is allowed in powerlifting competitions, it isn’t cheating.
It's hard to load the chest as much with just dumbbells, mostly because heavy (150+) DBs are dangerous to get into positon imo. I stick to 15-20 rep range mostly for DBs and pause every rep to keep the sets as risk free as possible

I absolutely love doing heavy, high rep sets with the hammer strength machines using just one arm. A couple of 20 rep sets on the hammer wide completely obliterates my chest without any of the risk of swinging up heavy DBs

Do you use high reps on the machines because they don't go high enough for strength training? I'd be curious if that routine doesn't eventually cause your raw strength to atrophy, but you would be in the know on that one.

Hammer strength machines are loaded with plate weights, you can go as high as you can fit 45 lb plates on the bar.

Ah, I forgot about that! Got them confused with the pin machines. Although unfortunately the Hammer Strength machines sometimes don't leave enough room for going really heavy (at least on machines with a lot of leverage to begin with, like high rows).

My gym has 2 hammer strength machines... one for chest press and one for shoulder press. I'm going to guess you can fit 6 or 8 45 lb plates on each side. Never saw a man put more than 3 or maybe 4 on there.

The high row machine at my college gym could fit six plates on each arm. I'm not even at an advanced level of strength and I could get a few with that. It just had so much leverage. No way on any pressing machine, though.

I previously guessed 10-12. Well, yesterday I got 9. More like 8 because the last one was a grind with my ass coming off the bench. Not a true flat bench though. I do a VERY low incline...feels better on the shoulders for me

I think it counts as an adjective in cases like this. Especially for the deadlift.

Words do become adjectified and verbed.

On a good day, I could probably do 5 reps tops. Bench press is not my strongest lift, could be because of my long arms.... Still I am happy with my progress as at least 7 or so months ago I could barely bench 225 for 1 or 2 reps. In favor of me, I believe the Olympic bar at my gym is actually a bit heavier than 45lbs... its probably more like 50lbs. As I try other barbell bars at other gym in the past and they felt ligther than the ones they have at the gym I go to.

Also, for some reason I feel more stronger when it comes to decline bench as the other day I try doing 225lb and manage to pull 7 reps and I felt like I could of pull a extra rep, but didn't want to risk it as I didn't have a spotter.

Thanks for the kind word! Some of the people in previous posts have some truly impressive numbers; it's kind of humbling how hard you have to work to get to a level of strength that is still yet well below impressive among the strong.

'Grats on the 15. How's that squat comin'?

I got 225 for 10 about 5 weeks ago, but I rarely train high reps. I get good (or decent) at the rep ranges I regularly train.

140 / 3 plates is my goal this training cycle.

When I was starting, I didn't get terribly brave and began with just a standard bar I picked up from Sears. I lift to failure so the weight I don't worry too much about, but after awhile I was doing so many reps with it that I added some to shorten workout time a bit. I'll eventually get bored with a weight and add some so it keeps me adequately challenged.

Today started 225x10 and ended my workout with 225x9

Well anyway to bad a 62 yr old Natty just won't garner any respect from people in today's society, but keep on being cliquey and I Will keep on lifting more than you youngsters, don't need ya

Squat is not receiving the priority it should... Thanks for the nudge in the right direction. (Ugh when you realize you act like one of those bros who get predominantly obsessed with the bench and curls.)

    EDIT: Typo corrected

Probably 0 reps but I just started doing stronglifts a month ago or so and I'm still adding 5lbs every workout. I'll let you know when I plateau ;-)
