Get to know your parents: you never know when they'll be gone for good.
Be nice to your siblings: they're your best link to your past and the people most likely to stick with you in the future.
Enjoy your body: use it every way you can. Don't be afraid of it or of what other people think of it: it's the greatest instrument you'll ever own.

If you're not a 75 year old chain smoker or have full blown AIDS, it's safe to leave your parent's basement miscers.

So can the flu. Doesn't mean I'm going to stop living life because of it. You'd be surprised how bad people are at following proper hygiene habits. They don't wash their hands, especially after using the restroom. They cough without covering their mouths. They blow their nose and don't wash their hands. They greet other people and don't wash their hands. The main point is that people don't fuking wash their hands as often as they should.

Yes swine flu did the same chit and infected millions. It is a bad virus but it is not ebola. You guys are going to destroy the economy with all this panic.
Distance yourself from people and wash your hands often. If you are retired old person, stay at home for a month and not stupid cruises.

America is fuked. Obesity is an underlying condition that makes you more at risk. It affects everybody except young kids. Young kids can get it but they dont exhibit symptoms which makes it more dangerous for parents and day care.

yes, but the chances of it happening to someone under 40 are much lower than someone who's 50+.

90% of our parents would be at serious risk for death. Imagine strutting around like a right kent bragging about how invincible you are, only to wind up killing off your own family.

You can, OP, for sure. It's not likely, but it is possible. The mortality rate for young healthy people is about 0.1% (1-in-1000) or less. The hospitalization rate is about 0.5% (1-in-200).
The issue here is a numbers game that mostly affects the high-risk people - elderly, immunocompromised, and people with underlying conditions including obesity, diabetes, hypertension, COPD, or smokers. The estimate is that 100 million people will be infected. If we basically quarantine the country and slow the infection rate so that the healthcare system isn't overwhelmed all at once, the overall mortality rate (including both healthy and at-risk) could be as low as 0.5% or 500,000 deaths. If we don't react until it's a full blown crisis like Wuhan or Milan and overrun the capacity of our healthcare system, the mortality rate will be around 4% or 4,000,000 deaths. Doing this crazy stuff like canceling sports and closing schools for the next month or so is necessary because it could save 3.5 million Americans, which is about 1% of the total population of the country. That's your parents or grandparents or fat sickly friends that could be spared.
