I am ded srs though. You educated me on how Malaria was fought in the US, and given how far off we are from a vaccine, and heavily promoted national campaign of sanitizing and avoiding large gatherings does seem like our best plan.

I agree with you. Each individual taking care of themselves as best they can will be the most successful tactic right now. Hopefully the news from overseas has heightened awareness enough to people in the US to wash your damn hands. The spread of this could be managed if everyone just took some extra hygienic care.

I'm putting this one in the speculation thread: an Italian source with family ties to a personal friend has told me that Italy is claiming to have a policy difference in which they are systematically testing the dead to ensure that they correctly document COVID-19 deaths.

This may, at least partially, explain their high death rate relative to total caseload, in that missed cases among the living more easily translate into confirmed cases among the dead, where in other countries, you're probably not going to get counted unless you were already counted while you were alive. You just get lumped in with undifferentiated heart failure and pneumonia deaths.

It's going to escalate, but I don't think it will be as exponential as China's was. Someone posted a prediction graph or something in thread 1 with the predicted cases in the US.... would be interesting to see how it's lining up with that.
