Not saying having COVID is as certain death as getting hit by a car. But in terms of causation, there is no “sole” cause of death, you can make the argument that anyone with any chronic conditions (60% of Americans) could have a better outcome for <insert disease or accident>. That doesn’t make anyone redefine the list we keep for leading cause of death.

Does anyone know the statistics on how many doctors are prescribing hydroxychloroquine for COVID patients?

If hypothetically I developed COVID and I went to my doctor, what is the likelihood they would prescribe me some if I asked for it?

This is especially true for third world countries in Africa.

Thats why all this data is pretty much useless and i do agree w you that probably the death rate is even lower but we just don't know for sure and we probably will never know the real % or #'s
Also seems like no one is considering the secondary deaths caused by people with other illnesses who are unable to get treatment in areas that have exhausted their resources. If 100 people who would have a high outcome of survival with medical intervention cannot get that medical intervention because all the resources have gone to treating covid-19 and they die, shouldn't that be included in the statistics and increase the death rate?

Currently with this lock down there's only a couple areas around the globe that seem to be beyond capacity but the potential is still there for a much worse outcome with so many people still not taking this seriously.

Millions is possible globally, certainly not in the US alone. But Asia seems to be locking down hard where it really counts, so we might be headed towards a decent outcome overall

I vaguely recall worldwide hysterics in the 150-250 million range. I wish I was making this up.

    no clue
Might call your doc up and ask his thoughts on it

Sounds like the key is to take it early , while symptoms are mild, and not when you’re needing a hospital .

Did this teenager die due to COVID19?

    https://gizmodo.com/teen-who-died-of...use-1842520539

A 17-year-old boy in Los Angeles County who became the first teen believed to have died from complications with covid-19 in the U.S. was denied treatment at an urgent care clinic because he didn’t have health insurance, according to R. Rex Parris, the mayor of Lancaster, California. Roughly 27.5 million Americans—8.5 percent of the population—don’t have health insurance based on the latest government figures.

“He didn’t have insurance, so they did not treat him,” Parris said in a video posted to YouTube. The staff at the urgent care facility told the teen to try the emergency room at Antelope Valley (AV) Hospital, a public hospital in the area, according to the mayor.

“En route to AV Hospital, he went into cardiac arrest, when he got to AV hospital they were able to revive him and keep him alive for about six hours,” Parris said. “But by the time he got there, it was too late.”
Article then goes onto state the following:

The Lancaster teen tested positive for covid-19, but the Centers For Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is reportedly evaluating the case to see if there’s another explanation for his death. The initial cause of death was explained on Tuesday as septic shock from complications with covid-19. The teen’s father has tested positive for covid-19 as well. The teen’s death has been removed from the official U.S. death toll, according to Public Health Director Dr. Barbara Ferrer, who gave a press conference on March 25.

So you agree they should all be lumped together?

What are the guidelines(if any), for listing/determining cause of death?

I don’t. I’m arguing against the logic that when counting COVID deaths you have to prioritize underlying conditions and age related conditions more than any other illnesses that could cause death.

But to answer your question: interesting study on how accurate cause of death determination for death certificate is without an autopsy. 25% of the time it’s incorrect.

    https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/14634467/

Thats assuming that 100% of the autopsy performed for this study were correct.

    https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/data/dvs/blue_form.pdf

Here’s the cause of death certificate and how it’s supposed to be filled out: immediate cause (for COVID probably some sort of organ failure), then whatever caused that condition going back a few causes.

Tbh 80k feels like a reasonable estimate to me, maybe even on the high end. H1N1 had 85k deaths in the US, country wide open, businesses open etc. if this thing only ends up killing 20k (Americans) it will look very silly looking back we destroyed the economy for 1/4 of the H1N1 impact.

I understand closing things reduces spread yada yada. Another note for you snowflakes out there I don’t want anyone dying sorry if this comes off at insensitive.

Currently we are at like 2-3k deaths, I'm sure we are not past this now but for estimates based on exaggerated stats to say millions will die in the US alone is fear mongering. The end result is bigger govt, less freedom, make the US and it’s leadership look bad in the eyes of the world, global govt (already suggested) and maybe even the microchips and vaccines people have mentioned ITT. All again for a fraction of H1N1 where the economy was not shut down for months.

Something else is going on IMO.

Yup, at least we still have our gun rights. We can make a stand at least. And I hope or military brahs wont end up killing civilians if push comes to shove.

All again for a fraction of H1N1 where the economy was not shut down for months.

Something else is going on IMO.
Are you sure swine flu killed 85k people in the U.S? I keep seeing this number thrown about but when i look online i find around 12k deaths stated.

I know it's been said again and again, by people on here and around the world including experts on the matter, but swine flu is not as deadly as this new virus for a number of reasons. The world did not react this way, or anything close, because of this fact.

    Cause for concern is justified.

Cause for shutting down our economy for a month is not.

The $2T stimulus just passed is bad. We're going to have to borrow that money and guess who we're going to have to borrow it from? China.

Now that Pelosi and others have a blueprint for passing enormous spending bills without public debate, expect more just like it to be rushed through in a month or two or for the next "pandemic".

Our republic is finally dead. The ruling elite represent themselves and their friends and business associates and not the voters.

All of this hysteria was caused by worst case scenario models. These are likely way too pessimistic.

I am fine with this and it makes plenty of sense to me but I can't find a mask anywhere, so do they have a solution for that?

Fake news. The overwhelming majority of American debt is purchased and traded by American investors, and China's up chit creek right now, too. If NY issues some kind of muni bond to help cover this, I'll be among the investors.

I'm not saying it's a good situation at all, but there's plenty of reason to suspect this is no worse than letting the virus run unchecked, and the Federal Reserve is researching precisely that question right now.

Ideally, we would have prepared for this in advance and prevented American public health infrastructure from deteriorating into a withered husk. We did not.

Ideally, China would have been forthright with the world and taken swift and decisive action. They did not.

Ideally, the federal government would have been forthright with the American public and taken swift and decisive action. They did not.

Now we're where we are and can't go back. Given the situation we now have, I'm not convinced there's a better alternative.
Nah, fukk that. I’m not doing that.

I'm just spit-balling here, but most states criminalize the spread of an infectious disease and the violation of quarantine orders. It may not be much of a reach to assume that NY plates are cause for a stop to impose a quarantine given the circumstances, as the federal courts have historically balanced heavily on the side of public health uses of the police power over the 14th amendment pretty reliably.

Doesn't mean it shouldn't be heard in court to make the rules clear, though.

As for going door-to-door, the police can always go door-to-door and ask people questions. Doesn't mean you have to talk to them. I'd assume being verbally notified of the obligations of any hypothetical New Yorkers in your house would later be sufficient to argue that you were a knowing accomplice to a criminal public health violation.

I’m gonna google up public health precedents for this kind of actions.

On the same note, all the law suits that will come after this is over will be massive. Healthcare workers dying because inadequate PPE, lawful search and arrest, etc. Should be interesting.
