With the coronovirus (aka COVID-19) spreading worldwide, there is a level of fear and misinformation that is spreading. The coronavirus is primarily dangerous to the elderly and the immunocompromised. For the young & healthy, you are very unlikely to die from it, but may contract it, spread it to others, and, less commonly, there is a risk of severe illness that may require hospitalization. Common sense measures to help avoid infection are within everyone's reach. Those who are obese or smoke are also at high risk for the virus. For the young & healthy, you are very unlikely to contract the virus or die from it. Just take common sense practices, such as washing your hands after coming in contact with people. Use hand sanitizer (note: the price has really gone up on hand sanitizer as people hoard it), Wet Ones Wipes. Blowing your nose with Kleenex Anti-Viral Tissues can help stop the spread of germs, bacteria and viruses. Clean common surfaces you use with and share with something with bleach or disinfectant such as Lysol Disinfectant Spray. So, for example if you share a cubicle at work you share with someone, spray the area and either wipe it down with a paper towel or let it dry. You can also do this in the gym, although their are better alternatives.
For the gym, there are many products to wipe down surfaces that have been used if your gym doesn't already have wipes.
(These are expensive and you have to carry around a big tub with you - but if you're paranoid, this is what you want)

There is currently no vaccine to prevent coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus. However, as a reminder, CDC always recommends everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases, including:
For information about handwashing, see CDC’s Handwashing website
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
- Follow CDC’s recommendations for using a facemask. CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies) especially in areas of significant community-based transmission.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.
For information specific to healthcare, see CDC’s Hand Hygiene in Healthcare Settings
These are everyday habits that can help prevent the spread of several viruses. CDC does have specific guidance for travelers.

Source: WHO Coronovirus Q&AHow likely am I to catch COVID-19?
The risk depends on where you are - and more specifically, whether there is a COVID-19 outbreak unfolding there.
For most people in most locations the risk of catching COVID-19 is still low. However, there are now places around the world (cities or areas) where the disease is spreading. For people living in, or visiting, these areas the risk of catching COVID-19 is higher. Governments and health authorities are taking vigorous action every time a new case of COVID-19 is identified. Be sure to comply with any local restrictions on travel, movement or large gatherings. Cooperating with disease control efforts will reduce your risk of catching or spreading COVID-19.
COVID-19 outbreaks can be contained and transmission stopped, as has been shown in China and some other countries. Unfortunately, new outbreaks can emerge rapidly. It’s important to be aware of the situation where you are or intend to go. WHO publishes daily updates on the COVID-19 situation worldwide. You can see these at https://www.who.int/emergencies/dise...ation-reports/
Source: WHO Coronovirus Q&AShould I worry about COVID-19?
Illness due to COVID-19 infection is generally mild, especially for children and young adults. However, it can cause serious illness: about 1 in every 5 people who catch it need hospital care. It is therefore quite normal for people to worry about how the COVID-19 outbreak will affect them and their loved ones.
We can channel our concerns into actions to protect ourselves, our loved ones and our communities. First and foremost among these actions is regular and thorough hand-washing and good respiratory hygiene. Secondly, keep informed and follow the advice of the local health authorities including any restrictions put in place on travel, movement and gatherings. The best advice I can give you is DON'T PANIC! However, the virus is spreading rapidly and some public health authorities worldwide do, in fact, encourage you to stay inside wherever possible to minimize the spread of COVID19. The best thing you can do to help is check and adhere to the social distancing recommendations and requirements of your local health authority.

When the coronavirus news broke out last month or so, here in the philippines, around 60% of people were wearing mask. Now, you hardly see one even if it has become pandemic. I guess the novelty has ran out?

Hah, I was just going to reply to someone in the other topic, but then I saw it was closed
Was aimed at EOR & ChrissJ: so far in Belgium there is no panic at all. We've had our first confirmed case on Monday, so far 22 infected and 1 recovered. Went to the grocery shop yesterday and there's enough of supplies of just about anything. Only thing that is missing is hand sanitizer, other than that I was able to buy just about anything I wanted.
You don't see anyone walking around with a mask or anything either, social life is just how it usually is. There are some precautions and our government gives us advice on how to avoid getting ill, but other than that it's just private initiatives (my company telling people to work from home if they feel slightly ill, or cancelling all meetings in which 50+ people are gathering, things like that).
Maybe it changes once someone passes away as a result of the infection...

Bruh, I think youve been abusing your mod powers lately, you made 2 political threads (claiming non partisan even though it was an election for dems) and stickied them, one rightfully in the RP, one wrongfully in the misc.

Dude, I welcome any criticize me towards me as long as you discuss it in a civil manner. So, I'm not going to neg or ban you if you for anything like this, so I'll address your points one by one.
I'll go ahead and unclose the old thread incase people still want to post there. I felt the other thread was getting too long, and that actually lags down our server speed and we have to keep threads within a certain length before closing them. I also felt there was a lot of misinformation and speculation in that thread and I wanted to just make a new thread with valid, scientific and up to date information about the virus so people can read and understand what to do if they're scared and panicked.
This is just completely false. Super Tuesday was both a Democratic and Republican primary. If you were not aware of that, I don't know what to tell you. I voted in Texas, and there were people voting for Republican seats for Senators, Congress, Railroad Commissioner, and etc.
If you have any other questions or concerns, feel free to let me know. I also have my Twitter, email, and PMs open if you have anything else you want to bring up to me privately.
I appreciate your feedback, however.

UPDATE: I reopened the old thread, which can be found here if anyone wants to continue their discussion there.
https://forum.bodybuilding.com/showt...hp?t=177958931
I meant no disrespect for anyone posting in that thread and I can see that there was a lot of discussion going on. I simply felt a new thread with scientific information on the first post would be beneficial to anyone who is concerned about the coronovirus and would like to read the science behind it and preventative measures to take to keep from getting it. I hope everyone understands.Last edited by pogue; 03-05-2020 at 12:55 AM.

The thread was 200+ pages long so I felt like a new thread was needed, also it had a poll and was specific to Australia. No one would read the first post on a 200+ page thread. However, like I said, I'll reopen it if someone can link me to it so anyone can continue the discussion there if they wish.

This standard response among younger people that it doesn’t affect them so who cares is such bs.
Who cares about your parents or grandparents as long as you are ok. Disgusting attitude but not surprising in this self absorbed age

Is OP for real? This thread and the deletion of the last thread reeks of an attempt to control the narrative to me.....
I too dont get why you didnt just edit the title?? But whatever.
I'll repost what I posted right at the end of the thread which was actually posted by others with different links anyway just because....

Its worth mentioning that most governments and organizations dragged their feet on this and down played it. Doctors, journalists, youtubers have been threatened and censored to stop reporting facts
They are not even testing people. There are no tests and many have false positives.
Seems like the elite want to population control, as planned. Good luck brahs
-

The tests seem to be a joke. Negative Negative, brb positive, oh you're cured you can go home now. no wait come back you have it again.

“The coronavirus is highly contagious and even those without symptoms can transmit the virus, which makes it hard to stop infection among communities,” said Lee Hyukmin, director at the Korean Society for Laboratory Medicine and a professor at Yonsei Severance Hospital. “Without enough testing capabilities, the death rate will be high as the delay worsens the damage in the lungs.”

I already addressed this above. The old thread is now reopened.
I'm not going to allow these conspiratorial posts that COVID-19 is some kind of government created bioweapon. If you want to start a new thread on that, you are more than welcome. This thread is science based and not to start panic and misinformation.
-
03-05-2020, 01:18 AM #22
True. The tests give false negative results. Seems they are designed that way to spread the virus if u ask me.
Only 132 tests have been taken in the USA since March 4. While South Korea is the only country actually testing thousands a day and trying to stop it logically.

Once they get the right vaccine it will be over and done with and no one will really care anymore. The fact people in here actually fkn believe u can get all these internal illnesses such as HIV/Bad kidneys/liver is so laughable. What are these studies based upon? An old person who's liver which has been corroded from years of smoking or something genetic? These "studies" mean fk all! People are constantly making it worse by reading all these chitty articles aimed to scaremong the public.

This is silly and absurd. Don't let yourself fall into the slippery slope fallacy. There are not going to be race riots and a "purge" type scenario. Please keep this thread to the scientific discussion of the virus, and not nonsensical outcomes that sound more like movie plots that reality.

Just explain how the news.com.au article I posted is a conspiracy like you claim? Its based on actual science like you claim this thread is meant to be?? Science which is backed up by a non peer reviewed science article from months ago and multiple other sources if I could be blowed to go back and find them in a post your just going to delete anyway because im showing you up for frauding.
